It appears the launcher issues are fixed? I didn't encounter any problems, launched with zero start options.
Launcher always shows up for me with proton-cachyos compat layer, so either the compat has fixed it or Stardock have fixed their launcher. Zero problems for me, game runs great.

I moved all settings to low and set the frame limit ingame to 60fps
The launcher cannot be bypassed that I could find, fortunatly the default controller scheme can navigate the launcher (Touchpad works as a mouse)
The game has a few pieces of text that is difficult to read, however those are labels that are a bit too small. The main menu, commodity quantity, commodity price, and tool tips are perfectly fine. The Clock, labels, and save-file browser are a touch small
The game is still a bit choppy even at low settings, despite the graphics of this game. I regularly went down to 35fps in late game
While this is a fine game on Steamdeck and the control scheme is very usable, the control scheme doesn't have obvious controls and not a lot of accessible hotkeys without modification. Do not expect to play very well even at lower difficulties. Singleplayer is very enjoyable at lower difficulties and still quite engaging if you enjoy the game on kb+m.
Performance is poorer than expected, but the RTS nature of this game doesn't demand high framerate to be enjoyable. Sadly the game does consume the battery at full tilt making my Q3 LCD Steamdeck means I get about 1:10 hours battery life
The game works fully online and offline, even the game would gray out multiplayer when it detected it was offline

A fun game and generally no issues under Linux outside the launcher issue. Can fortunately be easily solved with the steps I listed
Need to edit permissions of gamedata2.dat
The launcher will launch fine after initial install, but subsequent launches will make the launcher be transparent. If you remember where the play button is you can still launch the game fine, but another work around is to verify the game files after each install to make it work
The main solution is to browse the game files and then make the gamedata2.dat file read only. In Linux Mint you can do this by selecting properties>permissions; then make all "Access" drop down read only. This will solve the transparent launcher issue. I guess this is because the launcher edits this file and corrupts it, so it works the first time but fails the second time
I will be making a Steamdeck report that will give more performance and gameplay review. It also does not have the launcher issue on Steamdeck. This report is for those who are having issues with the launcher

I noticed at one point one of the pop-up dialogues in the game couldn't be seen as if it was behind something else, but it was pretty minor.
Use the launch options above to launch the game directly and skip the Stardock launcher (change Proton version as needed)

PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Switching away from fullscreen to windowed sometimes results in the screen not scaling properly. This was encountered in Proton 6.0-8, but not after switching to Proton Experimental, so it could be a bug in Proton.
Launching with PROTON_NOD3D_11=1 %command% on Proton 6.0-8 was necessary to avoid a nasty bug with the Stardock Launcher which causes the window to not render to screen. The window is still there, of course, but you have to guess the location of the Play button. However, there also appears to be a bug in Proton 6.0-8 that makes it impossible to start any Single Player or Multiplayer games because the game is unable to contact Steam and, therefore, cannot confirm you have the full version of the game, thus locking you out. This problem cleared itself up after switching to Proton Experimental, but now the bug in the Stardock Launcher is back and setting PROTON_NOD3D_11=1 %command% no longer fixes it.

Plays like a dream.

Launching from steam starts stardock launcher - fails to launch the game.
Bypassing the launcer using steam or running the .exe with wine launches demo version => can't play. Since the introduction of the stardock launcher on start, game does not work. However I have been able to play this game in the past
The textboxes in the audio settings wiggle up and down
If you manage to open the stardock launcher but the game won't start you might need lib32-nvidia-utils
, if you run on nvidia. I was missing this and the game started after a bit of tinkering and ran at <1fps.
After I installed lib32-nvidia-utils
everything worked fine.
The game appears to work and then freezes after 10-30 minutes. This is very frustrating.
Crashes after about 10 minutes of play
Can't accept invites, can join and create a lobby.
I have tried GE, Experimental and tinkering. I have tried as many versions as I can, when you get below 5.13 multiplayer no longer works. GE just black screens when launching. All the tinkering by other commenters hasn't worked. Very frustrating.
You have to bypass the horrific, useless and stupid StardockLauncher.exe, either by calling Offworld.exe via steam or by renaming.
"...steamapps/common/Offworld Trading Company/Offworld.exe" %command%
Game launches the stupid StardockLauncher.exe at first, which on my system is just blackscreen and always on top. Stardock should be ashamed for this.
The game ran great!

Game doesn't start with Proton GE, but Proton Experimental works.

6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
The game had been working fine for long time now. Most recently when I tried it would open the launcher but pressing play would hang. I have it working again with steps others have provided in other reports. I am using Proton 6.21-GE-2 currently. In steam go to the game properties > local files > 'Verify integrity...' to fix any corrupted game files. On the same properties page click browse to open the game files directory. Open a terminal in this directory and run: chmod 444 ./gamedata2.dat The the game works again for me, perfectly including online play.
Played over an hour without issues
Launcher opens, but hitting play doesn't do anything beside closing the launcher

Will not launch
Game will not launch, even after following other guides on this page. Safer Mode will not work either
DXVK
When starting a game and placing your HQ, fps drops to 15-20 and this persists for the rest of the game.
Performance was very poor considering hardware. It is playable but not enjoyable late game.
Late game performance very low, around 30fps.
Crashed when first installed
Off World Trading Company works with Proton 6.3-5, but will not launch with Proton Experimental.
works out of the box
Force compatibility use proton 4.2-9
Validate the local game files
Run chmod 444 ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/"Offworld Trading Company"/gamedata2.dat
Set launch options: -force-opengl

Performance is not playable on high end hardware
100% cpu usage and sub 20 FPS in the late game
not always possible to exit the game properly. 100% all cpu cores load with esync enabled

Minor fixes required (adding -force-opengl to launch options) but the game seems to play very well once that's made.
-force-opengl
Choosing an aspect ratio that didn't match my monitor left an after image where I'd expect black space.
Initially choosing 4k turned the screen black until I hit escape. Moving up resolutions gradually to 4k worked.
Works perfectly fine.
Perfect experience, absolutely no changes needed. Tested on Proton 5.13-6 (default)
Worked fine out of the box.

Download game from Steam. I used proton 4.2-9
Validate the local files using Steam
Run
chmod 444 ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Offworld Trading Company/gamedata2.data
- Add launch options in Steam: PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Without steps 2) and 3) the launcher will not be displayed correctly. Also, after updates to the game steps 2) and 3) have to be repeated.
sometimes crashes at the end of a match. Sometimes had to replay it other doesn't
Sometimes at end of a scenario the game freezes and has to be killed. Restarting the game and playing through the scenario again is required.

The launcher starts, but game doesn't start
I tried rebooting, and other versions of Proton, but nothing was able to launch the game after clicking the start button on the Stardock launch screen. "Safer Mode" didn't help, either.
No workarounds used. It just worked
Works out of the box without any problems!
If you follow the steps to reinstall and prevent modification of the file, the game works perfectly after that.
Glorious Egg Roll 5.8 fixed the game perfectly
