Works fantastic out of the box on Linux. Everything's seamless on my Garuda AMD box, and also on my Steam Deck.
Credit where credit's due. The game's worked fine, 70 hours in already and so far no issues.
Impossible to get working
Giving up on this. It was a great game, but EA has made it unplayable.
Game fails to start
Fossilize took a while to compile all the shaders, it spun up all my cores (16 threads) and chugged away for several minutes. After that, it went through a few more steps, and it seemed everything installed correctly. However, after clicking play and letting it sit, it just wouldn't start. I tried this with a couple different versions of Proton, including 5.13-1, no luck.
The launcher starts, but game doesn't start
I tried rebooting, and other versions of Proton, but nothing was able to launch the game after clicking the start button on the Stardock launch screen. "Safer Mode" didn't help, either.
Absolutely not. It's so close to working perfectly, but then the crashes happen, and it ruins everything.
Very frequent crashes while doing various things, some of which were repeatable.
Whenever the game crashes, it logs me out, and keeps playing sound. I have to manually kill the remaining game processes after logging back in. I can then no longer start the game without rebooting the machine.
In some ways, this is kind of worse than just being glitchy; glitchiness I can understand. But I think these are actual bugs, since I can trigger some of them reliably.
This game worked better in Proton than it did when I tried using its native Linux binary. The performance is incredible.
Works really well in Proton, and mods installed in-game as well as Steam Workshop mods worked perfectly, too.
Not bad. Had to run the protontricks command that was recommended by D1SoveR. F9 (quick save) sometimes crashes the game.
Quick save (F9) sometimes causes the game to hang
