Works completely fine with Proton GE, haven't tried just normal proton but it appears to work fine based on other reports!
Works pretty well, needs to be forced Proton Experimental but pretty solid performance considering. Loaded into worlds pretty quickly, performance is great, can't complain. Not hit any major bugs yet.
--use-d3d11 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Occasional popping but nothing significant, only noticed because others have mentioned it.
Without the --d3d11 flag, SEAF artillery shells don't have any colour tips. Performance degrades fairly significantly without the -USEALLAVAILABLECORES flag.
White boarder around borderless
Works very well with the flags and I've noticed no performance of game bugs!
Helldivers 2 in general is quite unoptimised, happy to say though that Linux is not the cause.
%command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES --use-d3d11 -force-vulkan
Borderless window has a grey border around it. Recommend fullscreen as "alt tabbing" in KDE doesn't break it like in winblows.
Without the vulkan and the -USEALLAVAILABLECORES flag, expect some quite severe performance dips.
HD2 runs pretty well, however the game's issues with perfomance is excaserbated somewhat on Linux, getting 70-90fps on a 4090 in cities.
MANGOHUD=1 gamemoderun gamescope -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 120 -f -- %command% -- -USEALLAVAILABLECORES --use-d3d11 -force-vulkan
Without using gamescope, you get a ugly border in borderless mode. Running fullscreen mode gets rid of it, but it means the game often soft-hangs when you alt tab back, especially if you're dropping down to a new map.
Performance in city maps is abysmal. Although, this is a game problem, not nessessarily Linux. I have noticed despite being on a 4090 the game does indeed struggle, and quite honestly I'm 100% pointing the finger at the game's engine. The CPU often sits at 60-70% and the GPU at 50-60%.
Lag spikes are commonplace. People have suggested to use WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY
flag, for me it actually made it worse in heavy "main thread" scenarios which the city maps absolutely make it worse, I lose 10-20fps if I use the flag.
Soft-locks / black screen of death requiring to go into steam and terminating the game if you alt tab. Gamescope fixes this mostly, I think, as it forces full screen mode.
Overall, the game performs well and is an enjoyable experience. However the game's performance problems are multiplied within Linux, but suffice to say it is happening in BOTH winblows and CachyOS / Linux. This is not a Linux issue directly. There are issues with windowing, which gamescope mostly fixes.
Overall, title runs great, in exception for very large chaotic fights, which is solely on the game, not Linux.
-dx12 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Mouse keeps bouncing around on map / deploy screen
Works well, performs well, overall very good out of the box with the flags.
Works pretty well, despite the fact the game itself runs like ass, it isn't because of Linux!
When hit with UAC's mechs were flinching a lot more than usual, not sure if Linux related.
Works absolutely flawlessly as soon as you swap to Experimental. Without it, the game loads the splash screen then doesn't continue.
mangohud %command%
Occasional major stuttering when transitioning into the atmosphere from space, although I suspect that's more the game than Proton.
Works amazingly on my 4090, very good experience! On absolutely maxed out settings I was getting a rock solid 120fps no problem, except for the minor stutter when loading new planets.
It appears the launcher issues are fixed? I didn't encounter any problems, launched with zero start options.
Launcher always shows up for me with proton-cachyos compat layer, so either the compat has fixed it or Stardock have fixed their launcher. Zero problems for me, game runs great.
Works really well! Smooth and solid 120fps. Occasional dips like others have reported when loading in pals, fairly easy to ignore.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
A completely fully smooth experience, in exception for requiring to enable full screen in the menu otherwise it'll be in a tiny window, and that the graphics settings are not auto detected which is no biggie at all, works flawlessly.
Works totally out of the box, absolutely no issues with performance or anti cheat or anything like that.
In game voice chat is quite quiet for me, even when receive volume is 100% I have to manually adjust people's volume much higher. Quality is totally fine, and I was able to adjust my own microphone settings optimally which was good.
Inputs feel slightly laggy? It's very hard to describe.
Performs perfectly well even in large factories just like it should. Only thing I'd say is I was prompted to install the Microsoft .net framework for Unreal Engine, it claimed the install "failed" but it let me launch the game and play so I guess it didn't fail in a meaningful way.
This could also be a proton-cachyos thing.
-dx12
When travelling fast via train sometimes some of the blue mushrooms have artefacts around their stems, suspect that's TAA rather than the game though.
Alt tabbing back into the game results in a black screen for a brief time (2 seconds)
Turn off V-Sync or the game will very regularly stutter when moving between regions, and set FPS limit to your monitor refresh.
After doing so on my 4090 I notice very little stutter, and I'm on full ultra settings, no upscaling.
Also performs well on standard proton-ge. Remember to turn off Vsync or you'll get quiote a lot of stuttering.
Do not use mangohud with -dx12 flags, it will not work.
Works brilliantly, even on ultra settings at 1440p my GPU was completely fine with it rock solid 120fps, zero dips.
Only issue I encountered is the game froze upon exiting to desktop, had to force close it.

The game frezes upon exiting to desktop.
Tried absolutely everything both on ProtonDB and FAF's guides on getting SC:FA to work. It crashes after 10 seconds into the game.
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 taskset --cpu-list 0 %command% /fullscreen 2560 1440
Tried following the FAF guide: https://github.com/FAForever/faf-linux
I've tried numberous proton versions including GE. It crashes both via native steam launching, and also via FAF. Had to revert back to winblows unfrotunately, which is a shame! The FAF client works fine though. FWIW I'm on Ubuntu 24.10 and KDE Plasma 6.1. It's possible that since I've effectively smushed KDE Plasma into Ubuntu that it may be causing some issues.
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% /fullscreen 2560 1440
Tried to force the game to operate at 120fps, no dice.
Without the /fullscreen flag on nvidia GPUs you'll launch to a black screen.
Capped at 60FPS, no way around it.
Unable to go beyond 120fps, for me it's quite significant.
Tried many methods to get 120FPS to work, all to no avail. There is a /framerate
flag, but it causes the game to operate like it's running at half speed, effectively not a solution.
Modding however is a complete pain in the ass. r2modman doesn't work correctly, I had to resort to directly injecting the mods and using r2mm as a downloader / browser then copying them to the game directory. Otherwise in terms of vanilla gameplay, absolutely flawless, well deserving of Platinum.
Even on a 4090 this game's performance is mixed. I didn't have as many issues on Winblows but on Linux it seems microstuttering is prominent
--lua-heap-mb-size 2048
Expect sub-par performance with this title, then again this game is not well optimised to begin with. Noticing SIGNIFICANT microstutter despite turning settings down, even on a 4090.
Watch out for the save game incompatiability. Switch to Proton in order to download them from the steam cloud.
mangohud %command%
In Native mode (without Proton enabled), your saves that were created on Winblows will not download and the game will show that you have no saves. In order to fix this, you must use Proton in order for steam to recognise the files to download and pull them in.
Performance wise, I'm not sure if it's the new 7.50 update, but it is AMAZING in comparison to Winblows. Even when the map is open, it is a rock solid 120fps. My GPU is barely breaking a sweat as well, and this is on native with no upscaling. Could also be TAA, not sure.
