The game works great under Proton Experimental so far I haven't had any issues.

rockstar launcher does not work out of the box. I own the game in epic, follow the guide in heroic wiki for rockstar games, it will work after that
It runs very well straight out of the box.

The game finally started working again after i changed to proton 10 after some months without playing the game at all because for some reason it kept freezing and crashing on the screen before the menu, right before the social club pop up (social club and rockstar games launcher might be the cause)

Со стандартным протонами плохая производительность даже на средних и проблемы со звуком. Пришлость ставить GE-шный, проблемы исчезли.

Plays perfect straight out of the box
No modification of any kind needed, plays great, I'm 8 hours in with no issues at all.

Runs great on Ubuntu, NVIDIA drivers and kernel need catching up before performance is fully utilized on hardware.
Can run at 120fps locked on Windows, getting between 65-120 fps on Ubuntu with NVIDIA 550 drivers.

Fps cap 40
Rockstar Social Club is required. I only had to log in once and then it automatically launched and logged in each time.
Great game that worked well throughout. Occasionally, it failed to log in to the Rockstar service but this always worked second time by relaunching the game.
I like others had the crash at the title cards. I was able to get it working by using @TheTremble's fix using MANGOHUD. Once the game was launched and played using this method I was able to remove the $HOME/launch-rdr-with-fix.sh %command% launch command and run the game normally.

Works pretty well. No glitches/performance dips
Some UI navigation audio is missing. Some are always absent, others go away after some gameplay time.
Needed to set PulseAudio latency to mitigate crackling/skipping

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=15 %command%
Launch the game with the launch options below. It will run at 15 fps. However once on the main menu go to settings set refresh rate and fps cap at 60 in game. You can then quit out and remove the launch option.
This game will run fine from then as long as the 60fps cap holds.

i had to deactivate rockstar cloud saves to make the game work
The game wouldnt boot to the menu because i had rockstar games cloud saves on, tried every solution and commands listed here on the page and it didnt work. once i deactivated rockstar cloud saves, the game ran normally, just without my saves

Nessun problema, grafica e audio stupendi!
Al primo avvio, bisogna installare ed effettuare l'accesso al Rockstar Games Launcher, ma successivamente il gioco è perfetto.

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=30 %command%
Game crashes before reaching main menu, if you did not set the launch option "DXVK_FRAME_RATE=30 %command%". This seems to be caused by exceeding 60 fps - which will not happen if you use this launch option.
Disregard previous post, it just needed an integrity check, turns out the start screen crash was caused by corrupted files.
Didn't work, even after applying the fixes here.
Crashes on the first screen. None of the fixes worked for me.

Be patient setting it up, it's frustrating and requires more tinkering than normal, but you can get it working.
After reading the issues other were having here, I confirmed that Debian-based distros are to blame, specifically the framerate when starting. Having FPS > 60 causes the crash at text.
First I used @TheTremble 's idea (GREAT work by the way - thank you!). It did not work at first, I had to change it from 15 seconds to 120. The game will still freeze temporarily! Wait! Be patient, after a few seconds it continued on, still at the forced 10fps. It froze again at the next screen, but continued. Once I got to the main menu I followed the other advice and forced my graphics FPS to 60 max. I exited out, removed @TheTremble's command, and it works fine without it now!
The freezing listed above, working after running the fixes

VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv
Mostly 100+ fps with maxed out settings and FSR. Runs great on Linux!
I have multiple monitors (2x1080 + 1x3440*1440) all set to 144Hz refresh rate. I changed all display referesh rate to 60Hz. This allowed the game to launch and I was able to change the referesh rate in RDR from 60 to 144Hz. Save and close. Change system refresh rate back to 144Hz. Game launched fine.

runs great

Runs out of the box

Game not starting. "Unable to launch game..."
The error seems to come from the Rockstar Games Launcher. I have tried different versions of Proton, including experimental and 9.0.4.
The installation went well and the first time I started it, the Rockstar Games Launcher was installed. After that it processes the Vullkan shaders and then I see that the Rockstar Game Launcher connects to a server, updates the launcher and then nothing - game stopped. On a second or subsequent launch, I just get this message: "Error - Unable to launch game, please try reinstalling the game."

I have to ammend my previous report. I thought that when I switched versions of Proton that made the game work, but when I tried to play again it froze on the first gray text screen like all the others here complain about. I'll explain what I do to make it work, but I can't tell you why it works?! What I do is this. I have two monitors, and I open my browser on the 2nd one (Firefox) and then I start the game and it works. It's worked so far 100% of the time when I do that, and froze 100% of the time when I haven't. Maybe someone here with more knowledge than me will know why it works?! But it is indeed working for me so far.

Stops responding on the first text screens.
I have tested several configurations, however none of them worked.
From all the methods I have tried to make it work, the only one which almost worked was to use the default settings with a few Launch Options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv %command% -d3d11
However it still freezes on the first screen.
I'm going to try with a newer Distro or Kernel soon.

Amazing game runs well on linux
Cutscenes have a strange timing problem where the graphics (audio is fine all the time) stutter and the game runs too slow and then 'it catches up' by accelerating everything for half a second, so it alternates between running too slow and running too fast. Graphics only, audio is fine 100%. Later in the game, in the town of Escalera - and ONLY there - small amounts of microstutter are present in game; as soon as you leave everything runs at full speed without any issues.
It's a lot of fun and besides the mentioned (small) issues there is nothing bad to report.

On the initial startup of the game I had the Freeze on first word screen after Rockstar login issue that so many others here have experienced. What finally worked for me was switching to GE-Proton9-2 no additional Launch Options needed. I'm running Mint 21.3

No issues

Limit refresh to 45hz for stability and to save battery.
Crackling after resume from suspend. It resolved itself after a while.
Cloud saves fail to upload after quitting, but hitting retry seems to succeed.
Right after the first cutscene the game was laggy for like, 15 seconds, but I never saw that again.

Game appears to work fine, I use a 144 hz monitor and get relatively smooth frames, could be a bit smoother with gamescope.
Seems to occur when riding horse, need more testing
Gamescope is currently borked, needs more testing. Currently crashes at or just before main menu with gamescope enabled. As a result cannot test gamescope for smoothness or HDR support.

Towns have huge performance issues unless looking down at the ground. Use the launch commands to fix.

$HOME/launch-rdr-with-fix.sh %command%
Game freezes upon initial text loading screens - had to fix manually
I had the freezing problem at the first text loading screen but I came up with a fix.
Issue seems to be a race condition or deadlock. I tried turning on debug options but ironically the game didn't freeze, although it was very slow.
Solution is to slow down the game during the first text loading screens by limiting fps to 10, then the limit can be removed and the game runs perfectly fine. I achieved this with mangohud, but it can be achieved with anything else.
1- Set launch options to:
$HOME/launch-rdr-with-fix.sh %command%
2- Create $HOME/launch-rdr-with-fix.sh
with the following content:
#!/bin/sh
# mangohud config file
export MANGOHUD_CONFIGFILE="$HOME/mangohud.conf"
# set fps limit to slow down the game
echo 'fps_limit=10' > $MANGOHUD_CONFIGFILE
# wait for 15 seconds in the background while the game loads then remove the limit
# note: increase the sleep duration if it is not enough to get past the loading screens on your system
# note: mangohud reloads config automatically once file changes. if it doesn't, you may have to reload manually with LSHIFT+F4
(sleep 15; echo >$MANGOHUD_CONFIGFILE) &
# launch the game
mangohud "$@"
3- Add exec perms with
chmod u+x $HOME/launch-rdr-with-fix.sh
4- Run game

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv gamemoderun mangohud %command% -dx11
Saw a lot of people reporting the freeze/crash during the splash screens at the start and figured I should leave this here: I was also experiencing these. After swapping from an X11 session to a Wayland session, the game seems to work normally. Have booted, navigated the menus, and am playing the tutorial section right now with no issue. Did not try vanilla Proton or Experimental.

Crashes at first text
i was able to play the game if i installed steam (windows version)on winegui and lunched the game from steam winegui. But will crash if i use Proron

Crashes at the first grey text
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

Tried different proton variations to no avail. Bummer
