Game runs great now. It stutters here and there, I'll have to look into it. Nothing dealbreaking though.
Stuttering when action starts happening.

Used 'NonSteamLauchers' to install Epic Games. Then had to go through the sign in and downloading process.
Dispite being capped to 30 FPS the game doesn't feel unbearable to play due to it's playstyle.

Frequent freezes and stutters (especially with vehicles or boss sequences)
Not an enjoyable experience with all the crashes and preformance issues I got. Tried Steam's proton, experimental, GE but none fixed my issues. Played on lowest settings with FSR.

Frame Limit: 30 FPS; TDP Limit: 8 Watts; Manual GPU Clock: 1100 MHz
Just install and play. I have graphics set to medium and tweaked the Steam Deck power settings which gives me about three hours of play time.

le jeu peine a tourné à plus de 40 fps, il a beaucoup de chutes de fps qui rend le trés désagréable à jouer.
Beaucoup de freeze et souvant un baisse drastique de fps
il mérite pas d'être classé en or, mais plutôt en argent

Was stable until I got to the chapter 4 cutscene. Consistently crashes after final load screen with access violation error.
see stability issues

Changed refresh rate to 40
Text messages like mail and little notifications are quite small, but they are readable enough without zooming into them.
The game isn't truly 16:10, and there is no option to make it fit into 16:10 perfectly without stretching or fitting unless you do CFG file tinkering.
I've played DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT fully from start to finish on the Steam Deck without major slowdown, using medium-high settings with native and later on with DLSS 2 (once it got fixed in one of the patches).

I added functionality to zoom in when reading data logs as I found the text to be too small.
I usually have to leave my Deck plugged in while playing this game as the battery life is short when playing at the recommended settings.
Even after increasing the text size I still found it to be too small. It usually isn't an issue when playing since there is often voice acting but it can be frustrating when reading text logs or data entries about the lore of the game.
I think that Deck is a great way to play this game. I often had my Deck connected to the dock and played the game on my TV with a controller. I did find text to be difficult to read which is frustrating as there is no setting to increase the size further.
I played this via Heroic Launcher in desktop mode, docked using a Keyboard and Mouse. Because the steam deck counted as a controller the control schemes would flicker between keyboard and controller controls every time I pressed a button on the keyboard or used the mouse in game. To overcome this issue I had to run death stranding through Steam from the heroic launcher with the "Mouse Only" control scheme, now only keyboard and mouse controls are shown and it's fully playable and great!

Owned it in Epic Games Store, launched it with Heroic. Did not do any tinkering through Heroic, simply installed and started playing. Runs great, the graphics look good on 800p / 720p screen. it's quite a battery drain so I play it while plugged to the charger.

In menu the text is really small, but for the game you can change the size of the text
The FSR is doing a good job when playing it on bigger screen

game runs great with few modifiations to performance. eats battery, i play it plugged in and it still drains slowly. mods help with this.
30 frame cap, half rate shading off, watt capped at 12, 1200 mhz
30 frame cap, 12 watt, 1200 mhz
turn half rate shade off
game runs great. just eats battery. plug in for this one. no issues otherwise.

Works well and is great to play when going somewhere

There were no issues running the game and I was hyped about playing DS. Ultimately I didn't enjoy the game too much so stopped playing after a while. I would recommend it though, even handheld.

The game works perfectly and plays well on Steam Deck with a controller or hand-held. No issues at all.

Performance seems much improved since earlier reports. Can hold 50fps reliably at Medium settings outside of cutscenes.
During cutscenes performance can drop to the 30s, but as they make up a relatively small part of the experience it doesn't bother me much.

...with FSR. And it cannot handle scenes when there is object in front of the focus plane, the blur effect is really bad.

The game runs without technical problems.. but it's not a good expirience. low graphics and low performance, bad battery life.
The game doesn't run well enough, low graphics, low FPS
The game runs better on Windows then Linux even in my computer.

Installed CyberFSR 0.9 Anti-Ghosting Beta
40hz Refresh Rate and 40 FPS cap
My copy came from EGS so I had to install via Heroic Launcher. Installed CyberFSR 0.9 Anti-Ghosting Beta because the game's FSR 2.0 visuals has some issues that was resolved in later versions of FSR 2. Asside from that the game can run fine at 50+ FPS at medium settings with CyberFSR at the Quality Preset in the DLSS options. I capped it to 40z/40FPS to conserve on battery.
Attempted resolution fix
No 16:10 default
Switch to Proton 8.0-2, experienced less FPS drop on vehicles and average FPS is higher too!
60 FPS Limit, Refresh Rate CAP 40hz, TDP Limit 14W, GPU Frequency 900, FSR on 5
No post processing on graphics settings on game, Default graphics, High memory and FPS CAP 60 in-game.
Locked FPS to 40
I played the game for about 50 hours and on just 3-4 occasions the screen went black and the whole system was unresponsive.
On default settings this game drains the battery heavily, do not expect more than 1.5 hours.
Reports that the second area is unplayable are not true at the time of writing. It doesn't stay locked at 40 but it's always playable.
Game runs great apart from some slight frame drops. Haven't changed anything in the game or on the steam deck.
Occasionally the audio will drop out momentarily
Some heavy frame drops during rain sections, especially with a lot of rain and BT's
18h of playing time. Locked 40fps with fsr set quality. Rare and insignificant fps drop in the mid 20's.
Great experience so far.
Game worked amazingly out of box. Only change I happened to do was change my preset to medium graphics settings simply to try to extend the battery life a little bit. (didn't have much change, but sometimes a few extra minutes is nice)
Even when using the larger text setting in-game a lot of the data logs and menus were a little hard to read.
Not a massive issue but there's no option to change to a windowed mode.
The in-game 30fps lock didn't seem to work for me when vsync was enabled. Disabling vsync did make the 30fps lock work but introduced massive frame-time spikes. Not too big of a deal when 30fps lock is available through SteamOS.
This report was made after playing 3+ hours on Steam Deck.
*Note: I can't tell when exactly the broken in-game frame rate limiter happened but regardless if I fully reinstalled the game (even going so far as deleting all "compdata" files and "common" files for the game), deleted all Proton files, or even used other versions of Proton I could not get the in-game 30fps limiter working properly.
To get longer battery life and a smoother framerate, I changed all in-game settings to default, set FSR2 to balanced and disabled V-Sync. Additionally it was important to cap the FPS to 30 in the QAM/Steam Deck Overlay, set a TDP of 11, and a GPU Frequancy of 1100 MHz.
This gave me mostly stable 30 fps and about 1.5h ~ 2h hours of battery life while still looking great.
In complex areas and certain Centres with online enabled, it occasionally dropped to the mid 20s and rarely to the low 20s. However this didn't decrease myfun and experience with the game, as it doesn't rely on high FPS, but rather the story and world itself.
I played through the entire game and beat 100% on the Steam Deck, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope these setting work well for you and you can enjoy the game as much as I did on the Deck.
Set game to 60fps target w/ FSR2 and capped Deck refresh rate to 40Hz
Some UI and text elements are a little too small on the Deck screen for my eyes
There used to be an issue with suspending the Deck while the game was either on the map, pause screen, or codec calls (the game would be frozen when resuming from standby and would have to be force quit). This seems to be resolved with a recent SteamOS/proton update and no longer occurs for me.

cap to 45 hz
fps drops
crashes when opening the map

Mostly 40fps but stutter can happend
With heroic if you crash after second map opening, add the game on steam with boilr and force ds to launch directly(without heroic), do this after installing because save game will be erased
Text in menus is a little small, even with the large text setting
lock 45 hz
rare fps drops. Minimum up to 14
Locked to 30fps in-game. Play mostly docked at 1080p with medium settings. There is an issue with audio crackling that can be "fixed" by disabling the wireless adapter, but that defeats the purpose of this game. Game plays great with very minor stuttering.
Seems to crash randomly and always when in the in-game menu (map etc).
The amount of crashes is getting to be frustrating as it always involves needing a reboot. Strangly, if it crashes and it allows me to forcequit the game (game is unresponsive at that point) then if i fire it up again without a reboot, FPS tanks to about 5-10 FPS at ALL points of the game. rebooting it sorts it. See the same issue with normal proton version and experimental as well as GE
Running GE 7-41. 40hz at 40FPS. Game runs buttery smooth in almost all areas. Occasional slowdowns when turning in orders.
locked game to 40 FPS
Game was stuttering and having fps drops with Proton 7.0-4 due to the newest game update. Proton GE7-38 has fixed these issues. was able to get 40fps at very high settings. has some fps drops but nothing like before
