Works out of the box, but the controller is not detected. The issue is likely not related to Proton.
In order for the game to detect the controller, disconnect and reconnect the controller while the game is running and press Shift+Tab twice.

slightly stuttery

Once you make some tweaks or do a few minor work arounds it plays perfectly, an excelent expirence.
The main menu will not reconize controler inputs and will only reconize keyboard inputs, but once a save is loaded or game is started it will reconize controler inputs. I have made a custom layout and shared it on Steam you can apply to fix this.
Opened The window, even showed a loading bar, but alas, did not play
Works flawlessly

Tried many different proton versions yet nothing worked
Game most of the time opens to a black screen and crashes. Once in a while with Proton Experimental it gets to the opening scene but crashes after a few seconds.

the game doesnt seem to capture the controlls of the steamdeck, as such i was just stuck in the main menu.
not playable

Bit of initial weirdness, works afterwards
Minor screen tearing
Game permanently freezes when not in fullscreen.
The game started by launching in windowed mode. I found that if I kept launching, waiting ~20 seconds, then exiting, eventually it would switch to fullscreen mode. After that happened, it worked great (as long as you don't disable fullscreen in settings).

It's playable. Issues are minor.
Can't show other windows on top of the game. I am lucky i have two monitors.
Controller was not detected. Tried to disable Steam input like some said, but didn't work.
I get constant 58 FPS instead of 60 for whatever reason.
Not opening

Only ran once
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
After a lot of trial and error, I got it running one time and could play a little. Upon starting the game again, I considered me lucky if I got to the "Controller recommend" screen so sadly, Sheepy's Adventure was indeed rather short

Fullscreen is bugged, and focusing any other window freezes the game's viewport until restarted. Autosave my beloved, otherwise amazing game
When playing in full screen on the primary monitor, the game would just render a black bar at the bottom where the taskbar would be, cutting part of the game off.
Game graphics freeze when alt tabbing or generally switching to another window and switching back (audio and input continue)

Like on Windows but without all the Microsoft spyware. Controller wasn't working as intended but I quickly managed to get it works.
Had to use community layout and editing it

Funciona perfectamente.
Para poder abrirlo es necesario utilizar Proton 9, no intente usar versiones anteriores.

Had to unplug-replug my Xbox controller to get it working, but otherwise no issues whatsoever.

A great game, Runs great on Linux
I played using a PS5 controller, and had to change the controller config to the "Gamepad" template to get it to work. It could just be user error IDK. Great Game you should play it.

One of the best games I'v played in a very long time
Just have to disconnect and reconnect the game controller after the game is launched for it to work properly
You should try it :)

At start, controller was not detected. I rebooted my xbox controller and it worked.
Sometimes game crash, so at first controller do not respond, and after few minutes playing with keyboard, game freezes and does not respond. It can happen even if you play only with keyboard.
It works pretty well with Proton Experimental.

My PS5 controller (USB) didn't work

Few screen shuttering
Game doesn't detect my generic controller
Game doesn't run with current default version of Proton.

Graphics are colofull and pleasent, the story is interestngs and engagng, great game that takes abot 80 min to complete
Small text but still readable, some text is narrated
just at the end of the game (boss fight) SD started to go heavy on the fan revs
If you aer not changing or selecting community layout for steamdeck the game does not pass the stat sceen

created "sheepy 4 steamdeck" custom community layout that lets you start the game with basic controls (a=enter, b=jump, x=e/interact/skip, y=y)
small but readable, most of the time its read to you
great game ifyou like the type/genere

Force Proton 9 in the game's steam properties under Compatibility if it's not already your default. Experimental may work too, but I did not try.

Silently crashes back to steam library
Doesn't launch

Didn't work on proton 8, works flawlessly on proton 9

It seems to think I'm using a keyboard and mouse, but the controller still works. For example, the prompt "E to interact" comes up and I need to press the B button, which is apparently mapped to the E key.
The mouse cursor also stays on screen, but I just moved it to the bottom right corner.
Only launchable from desktop mode. If I launch from the Deck UI, I get an error: "Failed to load extension from: (exe path). Manifest file is missing or unreadable."
It runs with Wine 9.2 on Steam Deck. There are many ways to accomplish this, but my steps are below:
- Enter Desktop Mode
- Download the game zip from Itch.io
- Extract the game folder and copy into Heroic Launcher library (optional)
- Install Wine 9.2 for Heroic (I used ProtonPlus to do this, you can find it in the Discover app store)
- Add a game in Heroic, point it at the Sheepy exe, and use Wine 9.2
- Launch in Desktop Mode ONLY. It might launch windowed but you can make it fullscreen.

Following the advice of a desktop ProtonDB user, I downloaded the itch.io game build and opened it with Bottles configured to use sys-wine-9.0 instead of anything Proton-y. This launched the game fine on desktop, however when I tried to launch it in gaming mode it opened this weird NW.JS screen as the only window and I couldn't get past it or get to the game somehow :/ Close, but no cigar

Need to use community config to play
Crashes using the default proton version, works great with proton 9 (install from marketplace) and default mapping doesn't work, so you will need to remap to keyboard or use the community mentionned in the report.

Works perfect BUT anything other than proton 9 (beta, install from marketplace) just crashes, and controller is not recognised so you will just get stuck not being able to enter the game. You will need to change the layout to mimic a keyboard (use community config mentionned for that).

./nw #%command%
The controller will not be recognized when starting the game using steam. This problem will not occur if it is started in the terminal.
This game uses the nw.js library, so go to the nw.js official website to download the nw.js executable file, unzip it to the game directory and set the launch option to ./nw #%command%.

Had to start the game with wasd mouse config. Gamepad will work after the gameplay begins.
Controller inputs do not immediately work in the menu.
Seems to work flawlessly otherwise. Will update if not.

Could not use Proton or GE; ran fine on Wine 9.2
