GOG version works fine through Bottles!
I also recommend setting "touch right stick" to press LB
Works well, great game for the Deck
4W 60Hz
Some of the text is quite fine and so can appear aliased, all still very readable though
I would recommend changing the control settings to have your mouse type as touchscreen, as I find using the touchscreen is typically easier when you need to manage 4 squads. The game's controls really don't map well onto a controller
Great on Deck, not that the game is any good
Unless you already own it, don't buy it just because it works well on Deck. I feel like the majority of players wouldn't complete the game even if it was free
Stuttery playback of some cutscenes, others missing entirely
Would not recommend playing with Proton Hotfix unless you already know the story, as otherwise you can miss a fair bit of context due to cut scene issues
Proton GE 9.1 also didn't work for me (the game never launched after several minutes)
Fun game, good experience
Some microstutter
Game wasn't for me so have refunded it.
Game works great except some microstutter and not being able to go pixel perfect without black borders
I suck at this game but it installs and runs perfectly without tweaking in Bottles
Fun game, works flawlessly on Deck
Don't forget to change the resolution to get to full resolution 16:10 (default is 16:9)
-force-opengl
6W uncapped FPS
Ensure to set launch flag to avoid heavy artifacting at the worst times. Sometimes on startup the controls are recognised and you have to force quit and re-open the game. Overall, disappointing experience for a Deck Verified game

Restarting the game once always fixed this
Ensure to set launch flag to avoid heavy artifacting randomly ruining your day. Sometimes on startup the controls aren't recognised and you have to force quit and re-open the game. You can also fix the (admittedly small) black bars if you're willing to crack open a hex editor in desktop mode (I used GHex from the Discover store). Open steamapps/common/Hollow Knight/hollow_knight_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll
and replace all instances of 39 8E E3 3F
with CD CC CC 3F
.
Overall, disappointing experience for a Deck Verified game, but once you get it right, it's awesome, and the game is legendary.
It just works
4W 60 Hz
All text is pretty small, and it could definitely be bigger
Text is a bit small and the menu & select buttons are swapped, but otherwise perfect experience
Nearly out-of-the-box
3W 40Hz
Keyboard controls only work in DX11 mode
Text is honestly perfectly readable. Just make sure to use DX11 in the Steam launch options
Frustrating to have to restart it continually
40Hz 3W
Keyboard inputs only work sometimes, you just have to keep restarting the game until they do
Fun game, works well when it works. Having to repeatedly restart it is very annoying
Use ProtonUpQt and get Proton GE set up with the latest version and the game will run fun. It does seem to absolutely suck back battery though
Use ProtonUpQt and get Proton GE set up with 8.28 and the game will run fine. Personally, to combat some of the intense aliasing from the game's awful engine, I disabled anti-aliasing in settings (intuitive), and forced the resolution to 1080p. It's still not good, and you now don't get 60 FPS all the time, but it's better than 720p
DO NOT USE Proton GE 8.27. I experienced severe battery drain and the Steam Deck misreporting its battery level, leading to unexpected shutdowns at 40-50% alleged battery level!
Can get it to launch on desktop but not in gaming mode
Following the advice of a desktop ProtonDB user, I downloaded the itch.io game build and opened it with Bottles configured to use sys-wine-9.0 instead of anything Proton-y. This launched the game fine on desktop, however when I tried to launch it in gaming mode it opened this weird NW.JS screen as the only window and I couldn't get past it or get to the game somehow :/ Close, but no cigar
Definitely not made for Deck, but works on it fine
Unable to interact with it without a mouse. Pressing most of the controller buttons does bypass it though
The font they use is very thin and so becomes quite aliased and difficult to read at Steam Deck resolution/size
Haven't tried multiplayer or Goldium edition.
Playable & enjoyable, especially if you don't need to read much (i.e. are replaying the game and don't need the tutorial/combos)
Science isn't about why, it's about why not
Need to click a dialogue box complaining that the Deck is below minimum spec
Couldn't get gyro to work properly
This probably isn't a good idea even if it works, but if you have a keyboard & mouse with you it might help sate an addiction
Works seamlessly after clunky first setup
Text is generally quite small, but my eyesight does also suck
First setup has a couple dialogue boxes appear to approve installing some things. Change to a layout with a keyboard and mouse, agree to everything, and the game will load fine. Then change back to the recommended template.
Otherwise, no hitches or problems so far. Text is a tad small (for my preference), and the key prompts are an awkward hybrid of keyboard & controller. Controls are fairly intuitive though if you've played this genre of game before
Works almost entirely without issues
Sometimes on starting a stage the level background wouldn't load for a few seconds
