Mouse doesn't lock
This game runs perfect, i did not have any crash, the only problem is the mouse lock, it doesn't lock inside the game but if you use Protontrick, WineCFG you can lock the mouse inside just fine.

There were a handful of instances were radio audio was doubled but it was tolerable.
Game just works out of the box after I ran it with Proton 9.0-3

Updated KellerWeaponsConfig.ini for gamepad bullet physics per https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Tom_Clancy%27s_Rainbow_Six:_Vegas
Back grips set to L3/R3 for convenience. Have to enable Xbox 360 controller in options menu on first launch and restart for controller to work from there on.
Great game, works better on the Deck than it did on my PC.

Must be a X11 gamer
Upscale to native resolution in wayland: it will cause insane mouse speed. Use X11 for this game
Insane mouse speed
Try in Wayland since Wayland and Proton keeps upgrading. But you might have to switch to X11
None of the issues ruined it for me and I managed to play through the whole single player campaign.
Some of the dialog over radio sounds very noisy but is still understandable.
Occasional short frame rate hickups. Feels like the game is hanging for half a second but doesn't occur often.
No steam overlay. The ubisoft and unreal logo movies at the start only showed a black screen, not that anyone would care about those.
With gamescope after about 20 to 30 minutes the framerate got unplayable wonky. Without gamescope the game ran jus fine.

4GB patch
Any time I'd restart from a checkpoint, the game would crash
Once you do that initial setup with the controller settings and those two tweaks it's a really good experience on steam deck
Tweak for proper 16:10 aspect ratio: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/103-tom-clancys-rainbow-six-vegas-resolution-patcher/
Tweak to make controller support behave more like consoles: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Tom_Clancy%27s_Rainbow_Six:_Vegas#Restore_the_original_bullet_collision_configuration
I reccomend installing the game on your windows pc, doing the tweaks, and copying the files over to your steam deck install
For proper controller support, start the game with the steam input keyboard and mouse setting, exit and go into the game's options, click on "xbox 360 controller for windows", then go back into your steam input settings and set it back to gamepad, you should have proper native support then, also do the tweak from earlier to make it behave more like the console versions

Just ran. Only tweaks were in-game in user-friendly settings menu. I'm running 4K Ultra (-AA) with my DS4. I'm happy.

Disable anti-aliasing once in-game. Many other in-game effects (such as steam) will collide with this particular implementation of AA, causing flickering rainbow artifacts that are far more immersion breaking than some jaggy edges.
Anti-aliasing is problematic, so it must remain off to avoid occasional rainbow artifacts.
The Steam Overlay doesn't work on any version of Proton I've tried. This makes play with controllers very difficult because the controller will stay in desktop mode. My temporary solution is to edit my controller's desktop layout in Steam, navigate "Your other games" and find one that uses the standard gamepad layout. For whatever reason, the gamepad layout isn't under "Templates" when choosing a desktop layout, so just snag it from an existing layout. This temporarily makes your controller work in-game, but it will no longer control your desktop, so remember to change it back (or do what I did and make an action set for the M&KB layout and one for the gamepad layout and have it alternate when you press the right side of the touchpad on the DS4 for convenient switching).
I said "online issues" because it's true, the game cannot connect to the servers it intends to, making (convenient) online play impossible. But this issue isn't unique to Linux. Ubi shut down the servers for games like og Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six Vegas not too long ago. Don't expect to play online on any platform without some client modification or launcher (don't know if those exists) or something like Hamachi over "LAN" (no idea if that works in RSV).

Game loads fine but no Steam Overlay
The game loads fine, but the Steam Overlay doesn't start even with different versions of Proton. Therefore, it is impossible to play with the Steam Controller.
No issues
After rebooting and doing a fresh install the game played fine this time.

Popup Error Window - Title : Steam Error Message : Application load error 2:0000065558
The Steam forum pages also show this error for some Windows users.
Played a bit of the Campaign and Terrorist Hunt, no problems whatsoever. May as well be native.
This seemed to run more smoothly than Vegas 2

The game is running well at 2K resolution! You have to click a button to add xbox controller support in the settings menu if you want it.

Runs good, Needed to tweak sound issues already known on Windows versions. Playing through almost finished

Played the first mission through to the end. No signs of any issues once I'd configured the graphics settings and odd cover mechanic to my liking (M+K setup oddness makes cover mechanic look like it's glitching, it's not).

Game crashed regularly (particularly on level load), the issue was fixed by patching the executable with 4GB Patch: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371

Regular crashes, particularly on level load and when changing settings.

Runs great, No online

Short test on first level. No problems seen.
