I've played 12 hours. Shutdown deck, came back to play (9.30.24) and it's stuck on the loading screen with the spinning ring. Unplayable
Cracking from wake
Game stopped working after 12 hours. In this mission where you decide who to give Leon's drugs to, Tucker or Copeland, I mounted my bike and tried to drive out of the town where the game froze. From then on it won't boot past the PS Logo screen with the characters in it. It sits on a black loading screen where Deacon's ring just spins.
Game is unplayable now. Won't boot past Spinning ring load screen as of 9.29.24
Game is broken and unplayable
Buyer beware. As of today I cannot play the game. Days Gone as of 9.30.24 is unplayable on my SteamDeck or PC. I've played 12 hours. Shutdown deck, came back to play (9.30.24) and it's stuck on the loading screen with the spinning ring. It also takes a long time to even load the game before getting to the Sony Logo with game footage in it. Once that plays it goes to the spinning ring.
Anyone have any idea? I've browsed google and this sub and no one has resolution. Majority are going unanswered.
Sucks because the game was beautiful I was really enjoying it.
Steps I've tried:
I've uninstalled 2 times now and reinstalled.
Verified files twice.
Renamed Movies folder.
Deleted sfkpaks folder
Deleted all saves but one thinking one was corrupted somehow.
Tried opening in windowed mode.
Tried opening in big screen mode.
Restarted the device and shut down the device multiple times
Tried just emptying the WindowsnNoEditor folder and it just repopulated itself once i tried to launch the game.
Emptied contents of and made Engine.ini read only. Didn't work.
Tried Proton 8.0
Tried Proton Experimental
Tried launching in windowed mode
Tried multiple different resolutions
Resources that didn't help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_cRkxtWAWw https://www.minitool.com/news/days-gone-not-launching.html https://www.protondb.com/app/1259420?device=steamDeck

Not the Deck's fault, but the audio mixing/direction in the game is quite odd. The main character will yell while riding his bike (understandable), but the person sitting behind him talks in a normal voice. He is also prone to yelling while in dead silent stealth sections, but again, that's a fault of the game.
Had moments where places in the distance would "bug out" or "stutter," but quickly resolved itself
Few crashes and freezes
Main character got stuck on doorways a couple times
Days Gone was known to be a buggy mess at launch and performance-heavy. However, I've only encountered a few bugs, and the game runs very well for an open-world game. Few crashes and freezes, however, though the combat itself is smooth

Last Major Mission, no cave loads. Not even a SteamOS issue since Beta update forced to stable but Fedora Nobara Linux aka Degradation of Proton Updates
Recent Valve Proton Updates and so on added newer crashes
underground map 1 chunk is missing which means I cant get to the next part as mentioned above
this game has its issues even on consoles like map wont load, ive read. On steamdeck, the constant patches to SteamOS, valve|s packages which get reintegrated to normal linux distros, breask stuff and this game is fragile. not too much but interieor areas are very hacky when underground.

30FPS in 60Hz / tripple buffer vsync and medium settings with low LOD
In the mill mission, the game seems to crash and in general I think it was unstable with no crash log shown on crash. proton just closes the window sadly.
Great game. SteamOS or Fedora NobaraOS aside, it is hard to judge why this game can crash, but runs well on SD hardware.
If a standard gamer wouldn't mod as much as I do, there may be less graphics bugs. Many mods aren't working. Mods work on Windows10.
Numerous mods installed
I enabled half shading.
Eye texture issues.

Rare occasions of audio crackling after wake up from standby.
Works on mostly high settings with stable 30fps, not worth it to reduce graphics so far to reach 40fps. Game looks really beautiful and is a lot of fun. Big advantage to have 4 extra buttons and great controller customization support.
Dropped settings to medium, used FSR, set 40hz cap & dropped wattage down to approx. 12-13
Increase subtitle size to largest for best experience
Sometimes when waking the game from sleep mode the audio can experience some crackling
Difficult to describe but comes with dropping settings and using FSR - certain areas / views of game can look blurry and washed out. Is minor issue on small screen but would be more noticable if connected to larger screen via dock.
Very comfortable experience, no complaints at all. Comparably comfortable experience to playing on PS4 / PS4 Pro if not moreso due to additional frames.
With a few graphical tweaks & setting a 40hz and some TDP caps towards 12-13 you can probably get an extra half hour of battery life, but don't expect to get more than 90 - 120 mins of gameplay without having it plugged in. Easily the most battery hungry of games I've played so far.
Runs beautifully well with these settings, but if you're looking for 60fps you'll have to lower them significantly
Graphics settings all set to Medium, with the exception of light quality, geometry quality, and texture filter quality which are set to High. Render scale is set to 120 in handheld mode and 80 on the big screen. Set to 30 fps cap via steam
Only text I found hard to see was controller layout. You can make the subtitles bigger in the in game setting if you want.
Native resolution, Medium preset, set lighting quality to high and Cloud and fog to low. V-sync off and set 40hz 40fps on deck settings. Produced a near perfectly locked 40fps and beautiful visuals.
Steam Deck limitation, set to 40 FPS with medium settings
Although you'll likely need to run it at 40 FPS through the Steam Deck settings it is quite consistent and enjoyable with very little drops in frames from time to time.
900x600 50hz
small text on the map

Without FSR, you're pretty much stuck on Low-Medium settings with a 30 FPS cap if you want stable performance, but it plays well regardless.
I encountered one very long freeze, lasting about a full minute, in 3 hours of play. Not sure if that was a bug or just a one-time glitch.
Reduce resolution to 600p and turn Deck level FSR on.
Turn up Texture Filtering and Resolution to max. Turn down Fog to Low and Lighting Quaility to Max. 35-45 FPS outdoors and 50 indoors.
Lowering the resolution to 960x600 saves a good chunck of battery life. Game is still cristal clear. Graphic settings on "high", frames limited to 30fps. Important: Disable Vsync ingame!!!
To save battery, reduce the resolution and limit the fames to 30fps. Vsync needs to be disabled, otherwise the game doesn't run smoothly ...
Does not work out of the box, on GEProton-7-10 there was some stuttering, but 7-14 cleared up most of that stuttering. Expect roughly 2 and a half hours of battery life capped at 30fps at medium settings.
Just a lot of personal customization. I use the back buttons to quick select weapons. I like mouse gyro aiming on the right thumbstick. On screen promps will swap between KBAM and Gamepad prompts when you do this though.
Amazing experience. On SteamDeck I recommend lowering resolution to 540p and enabling system level FSR for better performance.
