A stunning masterpiece
Forcing 30 fps and and lowering TDP
DO NOT USE DX12. Keep it on vulkan, game would not relaunch.

Occasionally the Rockstar launcher will cause cloud save issues, but only really when you've been using the Deck's sleep function. It can also stop you from being able to play the game if you have been offline for an amount of time (I think 1 week), but these are minor issues and won't affect the majority of people.
Occasionally the Rockstar launcher will experience issues with cloud saves, especially if quitting out of the game using Steam's inbuilt menu. Easily rectified by starting the game up and quitting using the in-game menu instead. If the "cloud save error" message appears, just tap "retry".
Some VERY minor slowdown when in larger areas such as Saint Denis (at medium graphics settings, capped at 45FPS), but barely an issue.

Game runs mostly fine after the initial setup of Rockstar Launcher, which can be a bit frustrating but nothing major.
30 FPS capped with low/medium graphics.
Game crashed like 3-4 times during my 90 hour playthrough, most of it in the first few hours and maybe once during the last few. Usually only crashed while loading game from main menu if I recall correctly.
I played full game at locked 30 FPS, and other than the rare crashes, occasional graphical glitches, and brief stutters, it's pretty smooth.
the subtitles are small

I locked the FPS at 30 and the fan very rarely is audible.
This game has an awsome story. Works great on Deck. Definitely try it out.

no big tinkering necessary. just locked at 40fps and thas it

I am not an experienced user at all. The Deck is my only current gaming device. Properties-compatabilty-proton 9.0
Had to install the rockstar launcher and create an account
Running it docked on a 24 inch monitor at 720p its perfect. Handheld the text is small.
I read some notes here about cloud saves crashing so i opted not to take to the risk and just turned them off from the start. Local save works fine.
Game will not load at all without switching proton version.

Remapped Back buttons
Played with fsr2 and 9w at 40fps
Specially the main menu icons are small
I got used to play it at 40fps capped, really not much issue, since ps4 version is also capped at 30

EGS version with Heroic launcher needs next fixes:
- Rockstar Launcher giving error 134: add alternative exe https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1awzm24/gta_v_error_134_heroic/
- Startup black screen, add or edit system.xml file: https://www.reddit.com/r/LinuxCrackSupport/comments/189n2e7/red_dead_redemption_2_black_screen_fix_steam_deck/
After these fixes the game is fully playable.

Didn't Play much, seems fine so far
Launcher requires Rockstar Games account. Occasionally had keyboard problems with built-in / onscreen keyboard, but otherwise a perfectly playable game on the Steam Deck

Locked to 30 FFPS
Weird textures on roads
Sometimes when near water there is fps drop

12w TDP, 40 hz/40fps cap
During some of the missions with intense gun battles, encountered FPS drops into the low 20's with Medium settings (Textures-Ultra). Set to low quality textures to play through those.
Crashed once during the final mission of the epilogue. This was at the end of a long play session, so I suspect it ran out of memory/zram. Playing through on a new game instance did not crash.
Running on bazzite:39 on Steam Deck LCD. Played through the entire Epilogue from start to finish. Runs okay at 35-40 FPS with medium settings (Ultra/High textures), but during missions with shootouts my FPS would drop into the 20's and be unplayable. Set the game settings to Low/Potato, which look like garbage but was able to aim & shoot accurately.
I am not sure if my issues were due to not being on mainline SteamOS, the LCD Deck, or perhaps settings configuration.

Problems only might arise when using differen linux distros with custom patches and more. #Nobara OS
if the game runs 2 FPS and seems like shader cache then there is a chance it runs on the CPU. Go to gome/.steam/steam/steamapps/compdata/1174180/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser_documents/rockstar games/red dead redemption 2/settings/ system.xml and change the adapterindex value to 0. Note I typed this in steam gamemode and can not type the precise upper and lower case formatting. in dolphin file browser go to the burger icon and enable invisble or hidden files and follow the path and edit this one with the kate text file editing program. This makes the game run, after first time run to create this file, in GPU accelerated mode. THIS IS FOR NOBARA OS aka an unofficial Spin of Fedora
try to mimick the ps4 settings, dont forget to set the resolution slider for textures to full or you get warped ultra lowest textures and 30FPS lock.
For Nobara OS users, there might be a CPU rendering bug, where it does not use GPU and needs the adapter aka the chosen output device to be changed to the correct one.

非常愚蠢的是,我在heroic启动器启动了旧版本的游戏(实际上是新版本)没有弹出要求更新驱动的要求,并且直接进入了游戏 rock star launcher is shit

Resuming play after Standby can add audio problems
Sometimes Textures load late or a shadow flickers a bit
Watersources, as rivers and lakes, can bring down the performance.

Set the game to 40hz and had a 12 TDP limit to prevent to fan going loud
Save game times (as in which hour/minute it is saved) are sometimes not correct when not closing the game, but sleeping instead. This isn't a gamebreaking issue, but might annoy some people more than the other. Restarting the game and saving fixes this.
When FPS is not limited it can give a stuttery experience, limiting to at 40hz seems to do the trick, this still will gives drops of 1-2 fps at some heavy scenes.
Got to about a third of the game with my current hours in the game, a very enjoyable experience even with downgraded graphics and lower FPS.

Being the game quite demanding in terms of computational power, the battery life was a bit poor and I resorted to play in docked mode for the biggest part of the time. Leaving this predictable caveat aside, however, the graphics were good, the frame rate stable and the overall experience absolutely satisfying.
40Hz

Game runs, plays, and looks good. you shouldn't have any issues except battery life being somewhat short.
I don't like RDRO, but it does work.

Text can be tiny
1 FPS. Fixed by going to in-game settings -> Graphics, and change the Display Adapter from 1 to 0.

Works great out of the box. Never installed Cryoutilities or have any issues with Rockstar launcher. I've currently clocked 25+ hours in the game, so far no issues except on 1 occasion where I assumed it was because of resuming the game from sleep, after a while the game started stuttering very badly. Restarted the game solved it.
KylanH posted his settings, I took some of them and lowered them to my liking accordingly. So far it plays great with most of the time 40fps.
Can't comment much about battery life as I played my steam deck plugged in.

Went through Herioc (EG) install rockstar luncher intall after launch required
Setting Gyro as mouse affects imputs like run, remaping all controlls may fix this.
Error code 18: fixed by forcing update through heroic. Online would not load: had to go to campaign / settings / set first option to 0 / turn off v-sync.
Ground textures occasionally load in wrong.
Set the framelimit to 30 FPS.
Rockstar Games launcher sometimes has trouble logging me in. I don't understand why.
In the settings, the text is hard to read.
I used this setting: https://youtu.be/QYnM3VDYrGg
Then it looks good on Steam Deck.
Only minor bug I've had is every now and then I will get a strage ground texture as I ride through a puddle.
Take it from me, I'm really picky about having a game looking great and performing well. RDR2 look excellent on the deck and plays great with no obvious stutter or frame drops. Real eye opener to the capabilities of the steam deck. Following setting I found online work great for me:

All other settings default.

Remember to download Heroic from website instead of application! Otherwise the game just run at 1fps. No idea why it happens.
And don't start with epic which will also break down,

Epic Games version R2D2 + Heroic Games Launcher
- Install R2D2 using Heroic
- Run it until you get error code 18
- Fix error code 18: Heroic Launcher -> RDR2's settings -> click on WINECFG- > click "Libraries" tab -> in "New override for library", type "vulkan-1" -> click "Add" button
- If you are getting 1FPS in game, modify the settings file in desktop mode. The file is /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/Red Dead Redemption 2/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings/system.xml . Change the following lines to:
I use setting in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epmYVEn97ac
To change language, use the Heroic "settings" of R2D2. There is a field "Prefered Language (Language Code)" that supports one of these: de-DE, en-US, es-ES, es-MX, fr-FR, it-IT, ja-JP, ko-KR, pl-PL, pt-BR, ru-RU, zh-CN, zh-TW
Text in settings.
An update of Proton Experimental broke it for me, saying it can't verify game data. Switched to Proton Next and fixed the issue.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b
One thing that you need to do is to use Heroic Launcher downloaded directly from their website instead of using Discover Store (flatpack). It will be saved as an AppImage application, I used AppImageLauncher to install it on steamdeck desktop mode.
Then just simply add heroic into Steam as non-steam "game" and run. Remember to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES variable.
If you want to use cheats/mods you can install it manually and then add mod dll name to WINEDLLOVERRIDES after vulkan-1 by coma, for instance, WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1,mod_file.dll=n,b
Taux de rafraîchissement à 40hz max
Dans les villes je descend à 30 fps
Lowered settings, locked to 30FPS.
Installs Rockstar Launcher, requires you to log in, takes a second to boot afterwards then whenever launched again.
FSR makes volumetric clouds have a streaky border.
In docked mode, cannot surpass 720p.
Occasionally the game doesn't sync your save to the cloud and you have to press a prompt.
Can look as good as XB1 and PS4 at similar settings (about medium). Min battery usage at full low (doesn't even look too bad).
Settings from here for a good 40fps / 40hz lock most places. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xp36sb/rdr2_looks_amazing_at_ultra_textures_digital/
Author had missing parts of a jacket a couple times. Usually fixed by a restart
打开了40hz模式,并且打开了fsr
首次启动阅读RockStar启动器用户协议的时候会遇到大量字库缺失的情况,但是进入游戏后没有此问题

You may need to change your settings from DX12 to Vulkan.
Here is the post which helps me solving my issues to start the game:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xhoy9l/red_dead_redemption_2_rockstar_launcher_version/
The process of the installation by Rockstar Games Launcher - Follow the reddit post which i shared and it should work fine for you.

Worked fine right away, even with the rockstar launcher coming up on the steam version, it all worked fine. Set a cap of 40hz/40fps
40hz/40fps cap
There is the Rockstar Launcher, but for me it installed and worked fine with the steam version of the game.
Runs good, controls great, I had no issues at all myself playing this. It installed on steam fine and then it installed rock star launcher which worked fine on the steamdeck for me.
