The game chews up battery at just over 1% every minute. Deck gets very hot on the lowest graphics settings at 30FPS.
Set graphics preset to Low, limit to 28FPS in game menu.
Frame drops in Act 1, even on Low with FPS limited to 28 in game menu and 30FPS in Deck menu.
Definitely playable, although blurry visuals, heat from Deck, and battery and performance issues in Act 1 on lowest graphics settings while limited to 30FPS means that it's a struggle when compared to playing on a full desktop gaming PC.
This game should not be Steam Deck "verified". Performance, temperature, and battery consumption make this game very difficult to play.
Ran at lowest possible graphics settings with FPS locked at 30 (although it never really hits 30)
Average 20FPS at all times. Very sluggish, very poor performance, considering its "verified" tag.
If 2007 me could see 2025 me playing Halo 3 on a HANDHELD, his mind would be blown. Fantastic experience and runs flawlessly.
Some issues on initial startup with logging in to Xbox, etc. which was made easier with a keyboard and mouse, but a very minor issue. Otherwise perfect - I completed Halo CE, 2, 3, 4, ODST, and Reach with no issues the whole time. And that doesn't even count the hours I've spent in multiplayer.
Disabled gyro (car was pulling left and right, which was confusing until I realised it was gyro).
Maxed out Trigger Threshold Point (Controller settings > edit layout > triggers > right trigger behavior settings (cogwheel to the right) > general > trigger threshold point) - set this to 32767 (max value).
Altered in-game control configuration to match my preferred playstyle. Mostly involved turning deadzones to 0 and throttle sensitivity to around 30-50% and steering sensitivity to 0%. Happy to share more detail on those settings if anyone wants to drop me a message.
Dropped graphics settings down to "low". Honestly, the graphics look great on such a small screen anyway, and it helped with a few FPS stutters I found at some points.
Some very minor pop-in/out at a distance. Not really that distracting.
Occasionally the Rockstar launcher will cause cloud save issues, but only really when you've been using the Deck's sleep function. It can also stop you from being able to play the game if you have been offline for an amount of time (I think 1 week), but these are minor issues and won't affect the majority of people.
Occasionally the Rockstar launcher will experience issues with cloud saves, especially if quitting out of the game using Steam's inbuilt menu. Easily rectified by starting the game up and quitting using the in-game menu instead. If the "cloud save error" message appears, just tap "retry".
Some VERY minor slowdown when in larger areas such as Saint Denis (at medium graphics settings, capped at 45FPS), but barely an issue.
Modified keybinds to my preference.
Runs great! Some text can be a little too small and controls are as good as they can be when playing on a portable PC.
Resolution was not detected automatically.
Changing the option to invert look axis in the control menu seemed to do nothing.
Runs great! You have to use touchpads/joystick for mouse - no native joystick support but that's a minor gripe.
Only other gripe I'd give is that sometimes text or important information on the screen is difficult to read purely because of how small the screen is, when compared to a PC monitor, but the game is definitely still playable in spite of that.
Only reason I can think that it would be "unsupported" is the 3rd party loader. Everything runs as pefectly as it can!
Considering this game came out in 2009 and was not designed to run on a handheld PC, it runs basically flawlessly, and the community controls are fantastic. I didn't think I'd be able to cope with having to use the trackpads but, honestly most of the functionality is mapped to buttons and you only really need to use the mouse to tell your Sim where to go and what to do. It runs basically flawlessly. I'm really impressed!
