I didn't play the native version, with proton it runs perfectly.
I had some audio problems(just twice).
I finished the game(amazing btw), 20hrs not problem.
To fix mouse input: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dead_Space_2#Raw_mouse_input_fix
The game V-Sync is capped at 30fps, to fix it, turn off the game V-Sync and enable the Mangohud V-Sync, to install Mangohud: https://github.com/flightlessmango/MangoHud.
Not encouraging, but if you really wanna play it, you have to crack it, then it will work like is native(more than 8 hours played).
Runs very well, just some audio problems.
If you want to install mods on linux fallow this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1735078385
Use PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 in launch option to fix it.
Just disable uplay overlay, and enjoy it.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Black Screen with proton 5.0.7, it worked with Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF(I didn't play online, just the training).
Works only in windowed
I used Proton-5.9-GE-3-ST.
It Works like native, 60 fps!
Fox Engine and Proton are amazing!!!
Add PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command% to game launch options.
It gets little stutters when loading new areas(shader cache), but nothing that will make it a bad experience.
Perfect, just log in to Uplay and play it.
If you have any problem with the joystick, change the joystick's game layout to gamepad(in controller configuration).
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 gamemoderun %command%

I finished the main campaign and it worked very well, if you gonna play the Not a Hero Dlc, use Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF(or above), or it wil crash.
To make campaign work, just follow the tweaks that the other users explained.
Sometimes the audio cracks, happened 2 times.
Played more than 6hrs, use aco-compiler to shader cache.
Just play it(disable Fsync).
If you have a patched kernel, you have to disable fsync, or you can't pass the tittle screen. Otherwise it runs flawlessly, like native.
Runs almost like native
More than 100hrs played without any problem, use aco-compiler
