The needed fixes are simple to implement and i think a user with nearly zero experience with this stuff would be able to do it, too.
Override the ucrtbase.dll as detailed here (ucrtbase.dll goes to the compatdata folder): https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamPlay/comments/dysg89/age_of_empires_ii_definitive_edition_now_working/
Camera may start drifting if you tab out of the game.
I think you can have a good experience with this, even when HMD tracking will glitch out from time to time.
Crackling with Proton 3.7, none with Proton 4.11+
Don't change the Window Resolution for the Desktop Window, that's opening for others to watch or else it won't load the next time.
Loose of HMD Tracking from time to time. This happend while using HTC Vive, 2x Base Station 1.0 and Standard HTC Vive Wands.
Works perfect after some Control Layout changes!
Default Controls aren't correct. You need to set them up yourself or Download a Community Layout. I used capy's Bindings.
Nothing more to say!
Seems like it doesn't matter what you use. Game runs out of the Box, but has some problems that can't be fixed with these Flags.
Set UseMultithreadedMode to False in /home/[USER]/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/333420/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/cossacks/profiles/[GAME_USERNAME]/profile.cfg.
One of the Devs recommended it in the steam forums
Sometimes your keyboard input may lag if you use the arrow keys for navigation.
Crashes while playing. Can't say when it happens, but i think its about an hour in the game when it likes to crash.
Minimap won't render but you can still klick on it for navigation or faster camera movement.
Native Build won't even start up for me. Seems like the Devs abandoned this game for Linux.
Works pretty much like stated on the Steam Deck Launch
Text may be a little to small for some People.
Sometimes you loose Connection to other Players, but Messages appear and all. It works good overall!
Works great so far! You may set you ingame Graphics down to Low and tinker a bit for the highest FPS. 1280x800 with Low Settings gave me a rather playable ~45 FPS
Works great! Played it with Proton 5.13-6 and had nothing to do! Just hit Play, like you would under Windows and enjoy!
FPS may drop with the amount People you have in your Settlement, like for example in Banished, but i would say that's a limitation of the Game Engine and not a issue with Proton.
After disabling esync, the game (more a tool) runs pretty smooth. But it gets laggy really fast after placing a lot of objects. I think this is more of a unity engine problem, then a game problem.
"It just works!" - T. H.
Only thing that doesn't work is exiting the game. There it gets stuck, but that's not a big issue i would say.
Used Proton 4.2-3 out of the Box with Nvidia 418.56 drivers (latest as of this review). Colors seems a bit off, but besides that it runs rather smooth. 60FPS with rare drops to about 42 FPS. With normal Game Speed it runs very smooth, stutters a bit when Game Speed is set to 2x or faster. The faster the Game Speed, the more stutter you get while still maintaining about 60 FPS. Grass (Particles?) gets all placed facing the same directions, so you will see some kind of a Grid when zoomed in.
Runs perfectly out of the box. No need to rename files or anything like that. Just hit start, let steam setup its stuff and you're good to go.
Runs very good for me. No Tweaks needed for stable 45-60 FPS on High Settings. Set PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 if you want, but for me it didn't changed much.

Had issues getting my Controller to work under Linux, but this is not a Problem with Proton or Steam. It's my Systems fault...
Well, about 12 Hours of Gametime there is a significant bug for me: Can't play certain Videos or Video Formats! You can test this easily: Wait in the Title Screen for a couple of Minutes. If it crashes, you won't be able to finish this game! If there's a Video its all good! Tried mf-install fix but it didn't worked. Neither did Proton 6.3-GE-2 nor 6.3-2! I'm not able to skip the Video Sequences too!
I think i need to wait some Time for an updated GE Version, Proton Version or with the Help of someone else... So far i'm not able to finish this game as i can skip this video about 12 Hours in...
Works great out of the Box with Proton 6.3-4!
Using your Mouse to move the Camera will be an pain in the Ass on the Long Run, but my Xbox One Controller had no issues and it works great with it!
Had 2 crashes while in ~11 Hours of playtime. Both gave me DirextX related Errors beforehand, which you can cancel to prevent the Game from closing. See these as a Warning to close and restart the Game yourself!
You can read on the Steam Forums that there is no Cross-play between Steam and Epic Shills Store Versions of the even when both are on the same Platform. Devs are currently looking into that Problem and try to fix it. Beside that it works great nonetheless but you probably shouldn't change the Anti Aliasing Settings under Options because these settings crash your Game immediately!
Works pretty good with full 60 fps, after a little bit of tweaking. Besides disabled esync i added WINEARCH=win64 as a prefix. Don't know if you really need it, but for me it works, so i don't gonna change it. Didn't test multiplayer, so i can't say if it works or not.
Runs perfekt out of the Box. Don't have to tweak anything. Only thing is, like it's already stated in the other comments, it hangs/crashes on exit, but this shouldn't be a problem.
You just need to switch names of TS3.exe and Sims3Launcher.exe in .../steamapps/common/The Sims 3/Game/Bin and you're good to go! Runs very smooth, way better than under Windows 10 itself! For longer Games i advise you to load a mod called "Nraas Overwatch", as this mod will clean the game from time to time (just google it and a how-to modding Sims 3 under Linux). So you will experience your new, smoother gameplay the whole time!
Works great out of the Box on the Steam Deck!
Some Texts may be a little bit hard to read for some People.
Works Great on my Deck so far! Set Graphics to Medium for a good 55 - 60 FPS. Gyro works too. Theres no Preset Layout available so far, but you just need to grab the default one and activate Gyro on Left Shoulder Button for Gyro Aim or whatever you like.
Game worked damn well for me. No tweaks needed.
Fullscreen worked in the beginning, but then started to glitch out. I couldn't open my steam overlay to join my friends session. Only worked after someone send me an invite to their session. Looks like a problem with the Steam Overlay that gets fixed after receiving a message.
Windowed allways worked up till now and it seems like it stays that way.
Occasional frame drops are possible, but it's not that bad.
crashed once in a session and crashed on entering the hunters cabin.
Don't know if this is a proton related bug, but it seems like the Animals work/behave different for me (and probably other Proton Gamers). I play this game mainly in multiplayer with my friends. For example: I encountered a deer flock last evening. I was able to shoot down all of them, because they didn't run away like they did playing on Windows. They seem to try to run away, but stop after just a few meters. Normally they would run for their lives if one animal of the flock dies. They do this on my Friends side (they play it on Windows) but not for me. Single animals do run long distances if they get wounded, but don't do this in a flock.
