5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Loosely followed this guide: https://arcanum.fandom.com/wiki/Modding_and_Patches
My experience was:
- Run game once to set up prefix. Quit game.
- export WINEPREFIX=[path to SteamLibrary]/steamapps/compatdata/500810/pfx
- winetricks win7
- Download the required mods (*) listed on above site to a temp directory; cd to this directory.
- install each mod in turn using wine (or 'wine start' for batch files). All content should go in the [path to SteamLibrary]/steamapps/common/Arcanum/Arcanum directory, except as shown in Readme files.
- in the Arcanum/HighRes directory, edit the config.ini file and change the entries to suit your desktop resolution.
- Restart game through Steam and profit!
- The mods I installed were: Unofficial Arcanum Patch 2.0 (from here: http://terra-arcanum.com/drog/uap.html#download), High-quality Town Maps, High Resolution Patch 1.5, High-quality Music, ArcanumXNoNoise.dat, Arcanum Level Cap Changer.
I didn't have to modify anything. The game loads and certainly works playing the first scenario.
5.2-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Game will crash without the Large Address Aware flag. I also had to turn down the graphical settings to Medium in order to keep the game running with the HD pack.
As of March 10th 2020, renaming the Launcher is no longer necessary.
Tested for 74 minutes of playtime and works perfectly. Multiplayer not tested.
Launcher works but main game crashes.
Both DRM exe and DRM-free crash with message: "wine: Unhandled exception 0x80000003 in thread 38 at address 0000000140822876 (thread 0038), starting debugger... 0x0000000140822876 EntryPoint+0xfe4850d2 in doometernalx64vk: int $3"
I used Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST with 'protontricks 359320 -q dotnet472 win7'.
Created a Frontier account and uploaded Hardware Report. Note that after creating the Frontier account the Launcher should be exited and restarted to ensure that the Steam link is successfully picked up.
No issues found with menu selection either in the Launcher or in-game. Only other minor problem was when I resized the screen after initally starting the game. The game became windowed, but I quit the game and restarted and then all was well.
Game launcher starts but immediately exits. No error output is sent to the console. Have tried installing dotnet40 and vcrun2015 but this makes no difference.
Requires the Media Foundation hack as detailed here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1102#issuecomment-419678627
Crashes with graphics settings set to maximum. Reduce these before starting a game.
Does not launch due to a SharpDX error. Have tried Proton Experimental and 6.8-GE-2.
cd "${STEAM_COMPAT_INSTALL_PATH}/launcher"; %command%
Had to use antimicrox to enable controller support.
Game worked well once I'd selected Proton 7.0-1 and added the launch option.

Installed directx9 using winetricks as described elsewhere. The only issue I had was a character model rendered invisible in one of the cutscenes. All else has been playable.
6.15-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Multiplayer currently does not work.
This review is for the remastered Quake using Nightdive's KEX engine.
Game loads but after progressing through the options menus, the screen goes black except for the cassette tape logo. The game does not progress beyond this screen.
Game starts and gets as far as displaying the menu, then crashes to desktop with no error message.
The GOG version of the game works with no problem on my system.
ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 gamemoderun %command%
Game crashed approximately every 10 minutes. I also tried Proton 7.0-4 which produced the same results.
Multiplayer worked out of the box.
In multi-monitor configuration, I needed to deactivate the second monitor or the game would crash to desktop. On single monitor configuration, the game works flawlessly.
When changing screen resolution the cursor remains confined to the previous viewport size. Resuming the game and then returning to the menu seems to fix this.

Proton-6.1-GE-2
If required use 'protontricks 245450 vcrun6' to install the necessary files to run the 3DSetup.exe utility.
Edit 3DVideo.CFG to change the screen resolution and colour depth.
