Native didn't allow me to play multiplayer. Proton did with no issues.
CS:GO worked but CS2 crashes immediately when running on proton, and crashes after the intro video when running native.
Tried various versions of proton
Can't get CS2 to run on native or proton.
gamemoderun %command%
sudo zypper install libopenssl1_1
Only works if you install openssl (run ldd ./devildaggers
) to see the missing libraries
Proton also works OOTB.
gamemoderun %command%
Low poly, low level of detail (LOD) when Above 4G Decoding and Resizable BAR was disabled in BIOS/UEFI
Enable those and enjoy!
Switched to proton.
Artifacting (black on the bottom half of the screen) when running native.
Native appears to be broken
Works if you don't need to see your charts
Charts in colony overview don't display
Hopefully it's just me with the chart/graph graphics bug.
Works perfectly on proton
...unlike native, where the colony overview graphs/charts don't show up. Bug report for linux graphs not showing up: https://forums.kleientertainment.com/klei-bug-tracker/oni/colony-summary-graph-lines-dont-render-r21028/
EAC not enabled
Doesn't get past EAC on Fedora 36 using Steam Flatpak. Tried several proton versions and GE, none work.
gamemoderun %command%
Enabling FSR causes lots of black flicker on the screen.
Game won't open on native or any verion of proton I've tried :(
Tried several proton versions
Made progress using older version of proton
Now it crashes on the loading screen before the main menu
As stated in another post, I edited ~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/8930/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/config.ini
: I set MaxSimultaneousThreads = 12 (since my CPU has 12 threads) and now native works.
GNOME wayland just launches fullscreen with a white bar on top, and the mouse input is offset. If you mess around with it (toggle fullscreen and alt-tab a bunch of times) you can get fullscreen to look correct.
Crashed once about an hour into the game. Thank goodness for auto-save!
I was never able to get the game to work using any version of proton, even older ones that work better with this particular game (e.g., proton 6). Also, I use the flatpak version of steam, so your config.ini file may be in a different location than mine. There's a windows link to it in the game files, run strings Config.ini.lnk
and it'll point you towards where the real file is.
taskset -c 0-6 %command%
set MaxSimultaneousThreads = in Civ's config.ini folder (use strings Config.ini.lnk
in the local files if you can't find it)
See my previous reports... maybe I'm going insane. But some days it only works on native... some days it only works on proton. -_-
Works great on openSUSE Tumbleweed
No tinkering required at all! Playing native. Way better experience than when I tried on Fedora a while back.
gamemoderun %command%
Experienced a freeze and got the "Hang detected" crash popup after about 45mins of playing.
gamemoderun %command%
Hopefully the next patch will fix it.
Linux native version doesn't appear to work on Wayland/Pipewire desktops. Forcing proton allows it to work.
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=4:0,1,2,3 %command%
Must limit CPU cores to avoid severe drop in FPS
Without launch options, game ran at unplayable framerate
Just slight fps stutter towards the end. Otherwise fine
Works fine besides subtle audio crackling
Some small but noticeable audio crackling. It's very subtle.
Works despite minor issues
Small artifacts in books, some graphics bugs (e.g., can't see out tower window).
I've only checked the first age.
