With the game originally made with controllers in mind, the control scheme is fun to use and easy to pick up. Seeing as the game is very well optimized you can reasonably turn down the settings for more playtime on this game. I've only played in story mode, but with ultra settings and uncapped FPS, the Steam Deck still kept up for about 3 hours from a full charge.
It is of no surprise whatsoever that Aperture Desk Job runs great on the hardware it was designed to test.
Game runs great! It is not hard on the battery so I can get a few hours of gameplay from full charge.
The game is great and the updates provided by the developers help keep up the interest. Controller layout is fine, feels nice to play with.
Limited FPS to 60 and turned on half-rate shading, as well as set graphics to Low. This allows the game to run for 3-4 hours @ 80% battery. (reported by deck, may change during gameplay because of rain or cars)
The game works fine with all default settings, and I am able to comfortably get multiple hours of gameplay from a full charge.
MInor nitpick: the side menu (from pressing the "..." button) was slightly stretched, with only half of the upper bar (where the time and battery icon is) showing. The time was still readable.
I have played the game via family share so it does not shown as me owning it.
Limited TDP to 10W and FPS to 30, though I'm not entirely sure either of those made too big an impact. A starter (but heavily modded) colony gives me about 2 hours of playtime at 20% battery.
The team behind Rimworld has certainly put in a lot of work to make it a trouble-free, enjoyable experience on the Steam Deck. The default controller layout is great, and for added benefits I suggest enabling the back-buttons.
Besides probably having to use different layouts depending on character, the game's still fun!
The text is a bit choppy and pixelated, though it is still legible. The issue is particularly apparent in the character select screen, where abilities' descriptions are quite small.
Some particles, e.g. the teleporter glowy bits, seem to be a bit wacky at low resolution. Flickering also occurs in the game's intro cutscene, with all the stars in the background seemingly popping in and out.
Watch out for slightly choppy/pixelated text and try some custom controller layouts for best experience playing.
