Only could run with Proton Experimental and Proton 5.0 ! Cutscenes are not playing, game runs way too fast and audio is crackling all time.
Game was crackling a lot. Using Proton-GE fully distorted audio.
The game is capped at 30 FPS. Running anything higher than 30 FPS results in the game just speeding away.
The game will crash at start up. d3dx9 and xact need to be installed through protontricks!
It works straight out of the box now with fmv playing after the 6.3-5 update! :D
A white box was showing the top left corner.
Requires an update to your mesa driver!
Textures were completely black! Had to install newer mesa-git driver to fix it.
Freezes up if MangoHud was running!
Once you enter Settings from initial menu, the game freezes and you won't be able to advance. Restarting the game immediately freezes!
Game apparently only works up to Proton 5.0 !
Launch protontricks with "protontricks --gui", select Death End re;Quest, select standard wineprefix, choose Windows-DLL and scroll down and mark "xact_x64", then click "Ok". Next select "Start winecfg", go to "Libraries" tab and add new override for library "xactengine3_7". Add and apply and close the windows.
esync fsync could cause crashes. Game only works on Proton version 5 or lower! After Proton 6 the game might start but it constantly crashes whatever you do.
When closing the game check if the wineserver and other wine related apps have closed with it. Sometimes it just hangs them behind and you wouldn't be able to run any other game anymore!
Newer Proton versions (6.3/Experimental/GE builds) do not work well with this game!
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 gamescope -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 60 -f %command%
Fullscreen doesn't play nice with an ultrawide monitor. Using gamescope helps.
Without restricting only two cores, the game will be a stutterfest. This didn't happen on my past Intel CPU machine.
Same issue like the prequel. Game freezes then crashes on main menu.
Using Proton 5.0 sadly crashes right on start. Using Protontricks to install xact and adding the dll overrides from winecfg might do the trick!

Installed Windows DLL "xact_64" and added "xactengine3_7" as native, builtin to Libraries list in winecfg through protontricks
On my second playthrough in NG+, the game often crashed when I rushed through battles and events.
Work nicely even with DirectX12. Though make sure to change to DirectX11 for better performance.
Game runs much smoother with DXVK!
Native runs a little poorer than DXVK due to OpenGL.
Was working fine until devs decided to bring in EAC.
Fuck cheaters.
If it weren't for MF works OTB with Proton 6.3 !
After character selection there was a small 3d like model in the center. Goes right away once the game starts.
When using Proton-6.12-GE-1, a second controller for local offline multiplayer will not be detected! Proton 6.3 and Proton Experimental work just fine, however no MF support yet :(
On Proton-6-12-GE-1 going online multiplayer crashes on loading. Proton 6.3 works just fine!
A friend who apparently plays this competitively on Windows told me lag and performance wise it's indistinguishable!
Installed DRM free GOG version
Alt-Tabbing does not work. The game will force itself back.
Doesn't work without tinkering
I can hear the sound and apparently can select something but black screen throughout.
Unfortunately very unplayable :(
Renaming the movies folder only bypasses the cutscenes issues. The game will still randomly freeze and crash.
Missing decoder: Advanced Streaming Format
In Proton 5.0 and lower I can skip the intro movies but it cannot get passed the Zero Dimension main menu (game will just hang). Proton 5.0 complains "Missing decoder: Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) (video/x-ms-asf)". Installing lavfilters made the intro clips visible, however at a 30second slideshow. Newer Proton versions will comlpain about "quartz:amt_to_wg_format Unknown major type {e436eb83-524f-11ce-9f53-0020af0ba770}" right before the Window hangs or crashes.
Stutters a bit
This is the steps I took to finally getting it working fully:
1- From fresh Steam Install first launch the game with Proton 5.0 to get a prefix generated. Once the black game window shows up, stop it.
2- Put the install script on the root directory of the game(same folder where NeptuniaVII.exe is), make the script executable and run it from the terminal. Windows Media Player 10 will be installed on this prefix. Once finished close the media player and install the codecs.
3- This is the part I struggled most with, and why it never worked for me before: Download standalone DXVK (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases) and extract the DLLs from x32 subdir to the games root(same place you put the lutris script).
After done these steps the videos will play, and you'll finally be able to get passed Zero Dimension initial screen to start playing.
Using pregenerated Prefix
Since the lutris script depends on packages that are not available on steam deck unless readonly fs is turnedd off, I had copied the prefix I previously generated from my main desktop.
1- Select Proton 5.0 in game settings 2- Remove 460120 folder from ~/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata 3- Drop the folder '460120' from the presetup prefix here: https://www.amazon.de/clouddrive/share/luiVb9GsJMpLGXjmkDUCby4FhgeD3G9iFKMKobdLKvh
When controller disconnects, game will freeze up.
Everytime you change Proton version, the prefix needs to be regenerated otherwise it will crash on start. So it's better to keep it on one version of Proton once it runs.
Needs winetricks applied in the following order: cinepak, faudio, xact_x64
In very few areas, character textures will be rendered completely black.
Setting Offscreen Rendering to BackBuffer might help with stability.
Same as other IF games, installed Windows DLL “xact_64” and added “xactengine3_7” as native, builtin to Libraries list in winecfg through protontricks
Same as my previous report, that sometimes the character textures will just render black. Not sure if that's a game related bug.
Had my CPU governor set as powersave by default in this Linux distro, this killed my FPS by over 30%. Enabling gamemode or messing with CoreCtlr helps setting the governor back to full power.
Could be at least "Playable"
Capping to 30FPS
Character textures randomly go black in a dungeon, although this happens very rarely.
As I'm reporting, this game is listed as "unsupported", however the game just worked for me out of the box! Maybe it was given that status because the VR part doesn't work with a real VR headset, although the entire game can be played without a VR headset.. Setting the 30FPS on QAS gives a battery life of almost 4 hours btw.

Native Steam version works OTB!
Having a multiplayer party game crash on you while playing with your friends isn't a good experience.
Crashed after about 30mins of online play
Crashed mid play at the plane minigame
Latest GE-Proton fixed the crashings for me. Just had my first 2 hours online match play without any crashes :) Regular Proton 7.0 and Proton Experimental has issues playing mini game videos (mf?).
Missing sprites (eg. water). With Proton 5.0 or DXVK on it's fixed!
In settings going to window and back to fullscreen stays at windowed!
Slowdowns and framedrops on Wine 5.4 with DXVK on. They were gone using Proton 5.0 with DXVK off.

Steam version runs otb!
protontricks 351990 dotnet452
Music can be overdriven. Reduce Music volume by at least 2 bars.
Turbo frequently doesn't ignite. With Proton-5.21-GE-1 it doesn't seem to have this issue.
Run these commands to get it working:
protontricks 200940 d3dcompiler_43
protontricks 200940 d3dx9_43
protontricks 200940 dinput8
Crashes when joining friends game :(
Tried running this patcher without success: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches I've been told that this might fix the game under Proton
Unfortunately game crashes immediately when I try to join a friends game with loads of mods preapplied. I've been told this patcher here is supposed to get the game working still but I couldnt even get the patcher to work as it gets stuck at one part: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches
Run well enough!
FPS dips and lags
Renamed ATARI.MP4 to something else to skip intro cinematic
Intro cinematic can crash the game, but you can just skip it by renaming the file.
