Installing Media Foundation libraries is required. Otherwise the game gets stuck in the splash screen. ProtonDB text formatting isn't great, so instructions are on Steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/428660/discussions/0/1735468061764944319/#c3175526477767880551
Works perfectly
As the other reviews mention, you need to press ESC once after launching the game. Everything else works perfectly fine.
Out of the box the game won't start because videos won't play. After following the instructions in this comment (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/838#issuecomment-447379664) the game works perfectly. 2 unfixable issues:
- Alt-tab makes the game unplayable.
- Quitting the game makes it crash.
Runs perfectly. If you have an Nvidia card, ignore other reports mentioning sounds issues or Wine D3D11 tweaks. You don't need it.
Requires installing mf-install using the "-proton" flag as described here: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install/pull/50/files#diff-b335630551682c19a781afebcf4d07bf978fb1f8ac04c6bf87428ed5106870f5R12-R16
Resolution change only applies after restart. 2 crashes unrelated to Wine in 9 hours of play time. Everything works perfectly, 150+ fps maxed out at 1440p.
I bought the game on Steam, but the game crashed immediately after launching.
This is probably an issue with the Origin thin client used by Steam, so I installed the full Origin client with Lutris and used that to play the game.
I've used lutris-5.6-2 as the Wine version.
FPS drops occasionally due to texture streaming, but recovers fairly quickly. On average 30-40 FPS with all settings maxed on 2560x1440.
Runs perfectly, click and play. Multi monitor is handled correctly, cursor locked to correct monitor. Getting 100+ fps at 1440p resolution with everything maxed.
Nearly perfect
Occasional stutter due to texture streaming
I've been playing the EGS version of the game for a year now and aside from the occasional stutter due to texture streaming, everything works perfectly on max settings.
I've followed the previous Silver guide. Steps:
- Disable Esync
- Launch game. You'll get a black screen. Kill the process.
- Open ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/compatdata/9350/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/Gas Powered Games/SupremeCommander/Game.prefs
- Add " , bloom_render = { default = 0 } " (without the quotes) at the bottom before the last curly brace
- Find the "primary_adapter" section and change the value to "1920,1080,60". Do NOT use 1440p or any higher resolution, your game will not render correctly.
- Save the file and quit.
- Launch the game. Everything should work fine after this.
Everything runs perfectly after disabling Esync.
Tested with the EGS version installed via Lutris: https://lutris.net/games/epic-games-store/
That installer includes the media framework library needed for video playback. Install EGS, install game, play. Everything works perfectly.
Runs flawlessly. On fullscreen, cursor is locked to the correct monitor which is usually not the case with Unity games.
