Frequent crashing
2 crashes so far in ~70 minutes of gameplay. Devastating because both were 10+ minutes in and the game doesn't actively save your points.
In my hubris, I almost forgot I was playing an early access game on linux. Then the game froze on a promising 13 minute run. I smashed my monitor and threw it in the busted monitor pile, then took a break for the night. Today I tried again, and again about 10 minutes in the game crashed. Going through the refund process for $3 seems like a waste of time so I'll just wait for it to leave early access and hope the crashes are fixed by then.
Works out of the box on default config
I was unable to get past 13 minutes without crashing on previous versions of the game/Proton, but I have now completed multiple full nights in a single session without issues.
Save as soon as you get past the character creation screen and into the game. I have not experienced any crashes during gameplay.
Occasional crashes when first loading the game after character creation. Can be really annoying if you spend a lot of time customizing your character's appearance.
No tinkering required
I've had some crashes when switching from windowed to fullscreen non-native resolutions. Zero issues going from windowed to fullscreen native resolution, and fullscreen native resolution to fullscreen non-native resolutions. Also, sometimes Alt-Tabbing out will force my taskbar to stay over the game in fullscreen. This is intermittent and may just be KDE acting up.
The game works out of the box. I tested multiple settings and have put quite a few hours in without any crashes during gameplay.

I did not experience the fullscreen issue mentioned by the previous reports. It seems to have been fixed.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Default config didn't work. Adding "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%" to launch options and switching to Proton-GE got the game to launch properly. Controller support is atrocious for a PSX port. Steam Input doesn't work and I'm not able to modify the binds VIA the launcher or in-game, but that may not be exclusive to proton.
Followed the instructions provided by "thebloodyorphan" - Played through the first quest with no crashes, bugs, or FPS dips. Runs perfect so far. Going for a completionist run and will post a new report with any details if I experience any issues.
As with all other games running on Proton, save frequently. 2 crashes in 4 hours of gameplay. Looks and runs great otherwise.
Followed the instructions provided by thebloodyorphan: "Didn't work by default. Copying xlive.dll from \steam\steamapps\compdata\22370\pfx\drive_c\windows\syswow64 to the main folder of the game fixed black screens when launching the game. Changing 'bUseThreadedAI=0' to 1 and add 'iNumHWThreads=2' to FALLOUT.INI in \steam\steamapps\compdata\22370\pfx\drive_c\users\steamuser\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 fixed all other issues."
Unable to alt-tab out of the game and back. The process continues to run (and make sound) but is unable to be opened. Can't "Stop" the game in steam. Had to open a process manager (ksysguard in my case) to kill all processes related to the game.
I have crashed a few times on approach to Springvale. No other crashes to report yet.
Works out of the box with default config
Alt-tabbing out of the game in fullscreen occasionally crashes the game. Not every time.
Works out of the box on default Proton config
Using Meta+Shift+Arrow to move the application to another monitor before the game has fully loaded causes it to render with the wrong resolution. The game menus cannot be navigated properly as a result, and the application must be closed using external methods.
Doesn't launch
Tried GE-Proton7-24, GE-Proton7-20, latest Proton Experimental, Proton 7.0-3 and Proton 6.3-8 each with and without "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%" in launch options. Game stops a few seconds after attempting to launch from Steam. Haven't tried anything else, but it definitely doesn't work out of the box with these configurations.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
I'm not sure why this wasn't working before. I accidentally launched the game through Lutris, and to my shock it actually fired up and worked properly. I tested with Proton Experimental and GE-Proton7-27, both worked. I run GE-Proton by default but in theory you should be able to run this on the official Proton with no issues.

For my hardware, the game doesn't maintain a consistent 60FPS unless I turn the render scale down to ~75% on medium settings. I've talked to Windows users in-game with similar hardware who have similar performance.
The matchmaking screen introduces the other players in the lobby with a burst of flame. This is a resource-heavy presentation, and the application becomes unresponsive for 5-10 seconds when the entire lobby is populated at once.
I occasionally have lag spikes in the first minute of a round. Sometimes my ping is spiking, other times it's FPS dips. I suspect the FPS dips are because of vulkan shader processing, but I don't have issues with my ping spiking on any other game regardless of OS. Could be a server-side issue but other players don't seem to have the same problem.
Does not work using the default config
Opening the workspace display causes the game to shrink to to the top left side of the display. It's too small to operate the menu, which forces me to close the game without saving.
Frequent crashing with default configuration
I've started both campaigns a few times. One crash on the female character right as the tutorial sequence started, but it worked fine the second time. The game has crashed immediately after the cutscene following the tutorial for the male character every time - 3 times so far.
5 crashes in 45 minutes of gameplay. I have only been able to get past the tutorial sequence and intro cutscenes once out of six attempts to start the campaign. The crashing is so bad I took a second look at my drivers and system configs, because everyone else is supposedly having a great experience out of the box. Completely broken for me.
I highly recommend consulting "The Definitive Improvement Guide" on Steam to ensure your issue doesn't have well documented work-arounds. This game is old enough to have an OnlyFans and frequently runs into issues on newer systems, even with Windows. That said I've been lucky so far with GE-Proton and I've been able to play without some of the annoyances I experienced on Windows.

Quitting from the title menu does not work. You must close the game using the Steam interface.
