Game needs launch parameters "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" With that it runs flawless.
Game does have an issue with mouse pointer but that can be easily fixed. I just alt-tab out and in of the game and the pointer resets to a working position. Also, the game can be run in windowed mode, search the web, there are many solutions. Just remember, this game was released in 2005, there was no 1080p or widescreen support back then. I play on a 27" screen and the game is displayed on a quarter of the screen, but I don't mind that. Everything else works just fine.
Had to install uplay (protontricks 321960 uplay) but after that the game runs flawlessly.
No tinkering required, out of the box experience. Just make sure proton EAC runtime is installed.
Worked well out of the box, I had to do minor graphics tweaks because I was getting some visual lag during combat but now runs smooth. Sometimes Steam take too long to launch the game but I stop it and restart steam and all if fine after that (it happened only twice).
With the release of proton 4.2-3 now Warframe can be played out of the box... almost. There's still the somewhat annoying bug with xboxdrv which can be easily installed through YaST on openSUSE (Ubuntu-based and Arch-based OS's have also solutions for xboxdrv). Performance wise I see no difference between Windows or other Linux OS's. Everything runs smooth.
