Added Mouse to Right trackpad
TDP Limit 10/12 Watts.
Works well out of the box, controller took a little configuration, but makes a great addition to liftoff/tryp/velocidrone on the steam deck.
I was able to boot and change settings. After that I tried to start a Single Player game. Once the character creation page loads it freezes.
Have tried the default Proton 8.x, Proton Experimental, and GE 8-21. The same behaviour happens on all of them. On GE and experimental the creation screen takes maybe 20-30s to crash.
I also tried both the "Play" and "Play without BattleEye" options and neither made it past character creation.
TDP Limit 12
Had to use Steam+X to invoke the keyboard on EA's launcher. No biggy.
Great online, as it was on my old high performance rig when I played it last.
Deck could reach 120fps+ on low graphics default with no issue so high speed servers weren't an issue either. I initially got a warning and then took off 60fps cap and it all just ran great.
I remember playing this when it came out on an old gaming PC and it needing all the fans. It's cool as hell that the deck plays this so well.
Run with FPS limit off to ensure servers don't kick you.
Downgrade graphics if fps drops below the high speed server limits or just use servers without those limits.
TDP 12
Manually invoked keyboard for EA launcher. Also had to restart first time because "update ui to play online" notice seemed to not take input.
Increased subtitle size to Large. Fonts and contrast aren't amazing but it's definitely playable.
Never thought I'd see the day; it's awesome. Works great OOTB. I can now get killed over and over on a handheld.
Added a Layer for driving with a back button toggle because I didn't like the shoulder buttons for it. Also added extras to LT: Tab & RMB, and RT: E & LMB.
So that RT becomes interact and click, and left becomes "open folder".
I changed the left radial menu to hold Map, Inventory, f1 and whatever else comes up rarely. Right I turned into a touchpad menu to do 1-6 (hotbar).
Still a work in progress, but a very playable layout so far.
TDP Limit 12.
Small text in turorial area and the guide. Playable but you gotta get close.
First time running the game didn't save properly so I had to restart on the second session. Time it takes to get through the first few days of the game is long so I probably wouldn't try again if it failed again.
Fiddly controls but well worth it for such a great little game idea. Feels well executed and thought out, has a really similar vibe/environment to Papers Please. Played out of the box, basically all awesome.
TDP Limit 10
Had to switch to protoj experimental for the unity prerequisite install on first launch. After that it's fine.
Absolutely fine after the unity install finishes. Works great out of the box.
TDP Limit 12
Some text could be hard to read handheld. Menus and Tutorial info. Nothing was a huge issue once in-game.
Ran straight out the box with not much effort.
Graphics settings default were fine, you could definitely push it higher if you wanted to.
Ran with max traffic & pedestrians, and high density parked cars. All ran really well, no obvious lags or stutters.
Control scheme is a bit clunky, but definitely playable when you get used to it.
All in all a great deck game that my little-un loves.
TDP limit to 12
Had to use Steam+X and Steam+Trackpad for microsoft login. No big problems.
Great OOTB experience. Had to change resolution to 1280x800 in graphics preferences.
Dropped TDP limit to 12 to calm the fan down and personally limited Refresh and frame rate to 40/40. Game ran okay without the limit and would vary between 35 and 60 fps.
Most online functions appear to work well, have not tried a multiplayer race yet but other drivers' gamertags show in game.
TDP Limit 12 Watts
Crashes at least once per session.
Multiplayer worked great.
Overall, I was scared when I saw this had a silver on Proton. However, I've managed quite easily to play through the bulk of thr career, with online/arcade play and everything has gone well. Definitely worth it if you're thinking of buying.
The biggest issue by far is crashing; It crashes one or two times a session for me (3/4h session). Crashes also seem more likely to happen around major story events or in game rewards so that can be frustrating.
Having said this, It's been really playable, I'm happy to have bought it.
Created a touch menu for line of sight mode and mode switching, to allow for tutorial completion. Added LMB Clicks to touchpads to navigate the menus. Had to remap the start button to the Pause command in the game, as the button configuration wasn't correct OOTB.
Crashed during level load when using the vulkan rendering option. Have not had a crash using the default startup option.
Works great OOTB, some fiddling with controls makes it great. Turning down rates to 300-400 degrees/s makes for easy gameplay on the deck. Don't forget to calibrate the controller for deadzones.
Right Trackpad changed to mouse with LMB click for menus
Runs with great performance ootb.
For better control; calibrate the controller, then set the throttle to joystick mode (by setting the joystick offset to .5)
For Rates in Flight control settings I find it very playable on the deck with Pitch and Roll set to .6, .7, 0 and yaw set to .4, .7, 0. I also set Throttle to 0 start, 50 mid, 100 end and 0 expo (linear).
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch
Added various bindings for common commands (Simulation Pause)
Instruments difficult to read, PAPI lights impossible, but that's not too different to on PC. Cockpit view can be moved to improve instrument visibility. Also suggest thrning on HUD in cockip view (minimal) to keep an eye on key flight parameters easily.
Odd one but when Dialogs are opened or cursor mode is toggled the throttle and trim would reset to 0%. Haven't found a fix yet, some discussion on the forums suggest this is an issue caused by detecting a controller input at 0% but I haven't found any bindings tha l relate to throttle or elevator trim that I'd expect to reset them. I have also tried creating new profiles in app for Mouse & Keyboard with no input bounds so that I could be sure those settings weren't impacting and the problem persists. Easy enough workaround is to remember it happens and get back on track when the nose dips.
A bit awkward at times to configure but definitely worth the effort. Medium graphics settings yield a good frame rate, vsync off and no frame rate limit & refresh rate set to 60hz seems to help worh graphics slowdowns too.
STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/rockstar STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS=/run/media/mmcblk0p1/ WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b
Social Club Error 18 on launch until winedlloverrides option was added.
Absolute pain to set up.
Steps
- Download Rockstar Launcher installer.
- Add to steam as a non-steam game.
- Add the _compat_dir_path env var to share the same compat dir between the installer, launcher and RDR2.
- Use the same /rockstar folder on each non-steam game installed by rockstar launcher and they share the same env.
- Run the Launcher Installer (Proton Experimental).
- Install the launcher.
- Add the Launcher as non-steam with the same launch options.
- Run the launcher (Proton Experimental).
- Install RDR2.
- Add RDR2.exe to steam as a non-steam game.
- Set the same launch options.
- Run as Proton Experimental.
- Play and it loads and runs.
Error 18 Fix
Originally I didn't have the WINEDLLOVERRIDES set and was hit with Social Club Error 18. Once that option was added social club boots during the game's splash screen (shows logged in), and the main menu loaded fine.
Compat Dir
Same Launch options should work for the installer, launcher and game. If installing other rockstar games using the same compat_dir makes them really easy to locate and work with.
When looking for the installed launcher and RDR2 they'll be in the rockstar folder (compat_dir_path).
Choppy Audio, not sure how to describe it but the audio was definitely off.
Works now, with battleye runtime installed and updated. The audio is choppy for me, but overall gameplay is as expected.
Some controls in the profile appear out of date, Codex is now O, Map is M. I also cut down on the menu duplicates and remapped some other keys (like space for jump) to make it feel more controller friendly.
Increased HUD scale to 1.25 to make it readable. Any higher and buttons went mossing off screen, but eith the increased size it's absolutely fine.
Just a pain to set up, once set up it's okay. I'd love to be able to mix RMB and E but it doesn't seem viable in the current version.
Dropped Graphics settings to the high prefix. It runs beautifully. Controls are a nightmare to configure but once tou get them configured and grt used to them they're fine. All around seems great.
Works as expected out of the box with no issues, also found it easy to download the community made parks and plonk them in the compatdata directory. No issues at all.
TDP Limit 12
Some dips when walking out into the rain.
Got soft locked on the tutorial windows opening above the case board, but the case board being selected. This lead to not being able to close the tutorial windows. Happened twice in separate save games. Also got a forever spinner on one load after pressing the any key.
Have submitted a bug report and will definitely play again after updates.
Worked out of the box but had some frustrating UI Bugs and I wasn't able to complete the tutorials.
I think the game has great potential and have submitted bug reports. Hopefully the devs are on it, I'll wait for an update then try again.
Started moving things around for more comfortable gameplay but this scheme worked fine ootb.
TDP Limit 12
Currently there's issues with which in-game window is focussed when using a controller. In the past that left me unable to continue playing. Fortunately; switching to keyboard and mouse makes the game really playable.
Some Frame Drops, particularly when going from inside to outside in the rain. Additional stutter during save, nothing terrible for an early access at all.
Initially I struggled to get things to feel okay, after switching to keyboard and mouse it's pretty solid. I'm really glad because this game seems like it has huge potential; it's a fascinating concept.
L4 = RT (toggle) for cruise control. Something I greatly missed from MudRunner.
Some UI text is small and there doesn't appear to be a scaling option. Still very playable without using the Steam Magnifier.
Great OOTB experience. I previously played through 100% of the first 3 levels on Switch and this is an incredible step up in graphics, performance and playability.
Add a Cruise control to your controller somewhere and the game becomes even better.
Right trackpad As Mouse with click set to LMB
Out of the FPV simulators I have tried, this one has the best deck experience out of the box.
Initially set up the controller with gamepad using the onscreen calibration. Menus all worked with controller prompts. The default rates were good for a gamepad.
Overall great experience with no hassle.
Added shortcuts to back grip, L4 is dpad up for Item wheel, R4 is L3 for hold breath, L5 is KBD 1 to quick switch to binos, R5 is KBD 2 to quick switch to weapon.
Limit 40fps/40hz, medium graphics for consistent 40fps ouput with better battery and lower fan noise.
On the map/menu overlay hitting R3 (next to my profile name) made the game unresponsive. No big deal, have not needed the feature.
Works really well and has been one of my first games on the deck after playing it years back on console. I'm amazed thsis runs so well on a handheld. Many hours of gameplay to be had.
