Installs, origin works absolutely fine, but when it comes to launching the game, just nothing happens and proton exits.
Works almost as good as it should, but audio is missing in the cutscenes and fps drops a bit, but nothing that bad.
There's no audio in the cinematic scenes.
It feels like there is a little acceleration involved in the mouse movement handling. But I am not sure, maybe "xset m 0 0" fixed this.
Sometimes it is proper 200 fps (the limit), but in some scenes it drops down to 80 for a few seconds. Given my hardware and how the game old is, this was unexpected.
Launches fine but freezes almost immediately on the startup screen
Freezes so that even the steam overlay doesn't pop up when I press the hotkey for it. Also, the FPS counter freezes as well, I assume the renderer is broken.
The FPS is low even on top hardware, there are stutters. The RT isn't supported on Linux, so this is a game-changer for me.
Texture loading and unloading was broken the first time I played it. After the first run I didn't notice it. Perhaps the game developer has published an update fixing the bugs.
With my PC it should have been running more than 120 fps according to what is achievable on Windows. But this is not the case. Apart from low fps there are stutters which really prevent you from enjoying the game, even more than the low fps count.
Apart from texture loading and unloading, no.
It works, 50-60 fps and stutters, so for someone, it may be just fine enough.
It crashes, it is impossible to play.
Alt-tab and any focus loosing makes the renderer stop and there's no other way to recover besides killing the process
Crashes almost immediately after starting playing, the very first level, just after the 5-10 seconds, I am only able to kill up to three demons and that's all.
I have exactly the same problems with my old video card (1060 gtx 6GB) and on my new video card (RTX 2070 Super).
Starts with a black screen, the main famous valve intro sound is played for a second and then nothing happens
Isn't playable, no way to get into the menu, no picture rendered. Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental do not work.
It looks like the game engine has internal mouse acceleration which can't be disabled in the menu.
Lower FPS than expected, stutters and fps drops. Given my setup, I think, it should always be above 200, but I play most of time with ~100 fps.
FPS is locked to 60 even with the vsync and triple buffering turned off. In order to fix it, one should change the command line and the configuration file in order to support one's monitor refresh rate (in my case - 240).
The command line to fix tis: %command% -refreshrate 240 The file to change: BaseEngine.ini, settings:
bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE MinSmoothedFrameRate=240 MaxSmoothedFrameRate=242
Singleplayer works perfectly, everything is good out-of-the-box except some crashes during playing. These crashes are easily fixed by increasing file descriptor limit per process and so the game does not crash anymore, everything works flawlessly.
The higher rate you have, the less performance problem you'll have eventually: this is a bottleneck of the engine.
When in window mode, the cursor position isn't correctly handled and the mouse cursor is drawn above its' real position by like 30 pixels on my setup.
The game can't use raw input, I guess, and is affected by the X settings. For me, it is critical, so I always execute xset m 0 0
to disable mouse acceleration before playing the game.
Performance sometimes drops a bit, minor stutters occurs when someone joins the server, or some textures and models need to be loaded.
In the server menu, when one moves his cursor quickly, highlighting servers often, the internal html-rendering engine based on the awesomium framework can't keep up and sets the highlighted index to -1
and so when you press "join" or simply want to get server information by clicking on a server item in the list, the game crashes due to accessing array out of bounds. It is reproducible quite often, if not every time. As a workaround,
- One should not highlight any server entries in the listview until the servers list is fully populated.
- One should slowly navigate to a particular (desired) server entry in the list navigating from top to bottom, highlighting all the entries before the desired server, so that the html-rendering engine keep ups and at least is able to set an incorrect but valid selected index, so the worst thing which can happen is that the user will join/get info of an another server.
Doesn't even start properly
The launcher starts, and when it comes to the game (I start hearing like 0.5 second of some music) it crashes, on both, proton 5.0-9 and proton 5.13-1.
Game crashes very often either after intro where companies involved into the game development are listed or in the main menu or after game scenes. If, eventually, it did not crash (like 1/20 times) and I am in the game, there are black-pixel flickering in the game-scenes and when it comes to playing (you are free to use controls), the screen gets filled with black color in a minute, probably this is caused by motion blur. The FPS counter was good for "high quality" preset though, so, if the game does not have these glitches and crashes, it will run smoothly and become playable.
Doesn't start.
The message box that appears:
There was an error while initializing the graphics driver
vkCreateDevice failed with error (VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED)
The game will exit when you click OK.
