unset XDG_CONFIG_HOME; unset XDG_DATA_HOME; %command%
As mentioned by a previous user, unsettng XDG_DATA_HOME and XDG_CONFIG_HOME is necessary for saves to work (assuming they're set in your distro or configs). If you do not unset these env vars, your game won't save and you'll lose all progress.
Freezes at black screen when starting a new game
--launcher-skip -dx12
When creating a new game, the game will freeze at a black screen and never recover, although music still plays in the background. The character creator works but will freeze when entering the game.
Interestingly, during the initial freeze and when killing the process, the whole system freezes for about 5 seconds.
This is using Lutris as I own it through GOG. I have tried the following wine versions:
- lutris-7.2.2 (does not get to menu)
- lutrist-GE=Proton8-15
- lutrist-GE=Proton8-16
The game runs fine in the menu, changing various settings does not help as the game still freezes.
Also, as others have noted, the game uses controller icons everywere even though none is connected (using kbm).
6.13-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.13-GE-1
The only issue is that the modding doesn't work. The mod menu displays a spinning icon as it fetches mod.io terms but never loads. Cannot join any game that utilizes mods.
Game starts, get to main menu. Can start a new game and view the intro movie but game crashes directly after.
Starts up with uncapped framerate, requires toggling vsync off and on in the settings, even without applying, to fix.
Occasionally falls out of sync during cutscenes
Game slows or pauses during I assume during loading areas
Like others have mentioned, userw with nvidia and DLSS support should add the following launch options to allow for enabling DLSS (helps a lot):
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
Overall, runs pretty well but I really needed DLSS for it to run at a stable 60 fps with ultrawide.
The small issues with audio sync and slowdown/hitching during loading don't ruin the game, at least in the first 90 minutes.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
If PROTON_NO_D3D11=1
is not defined, the game would open to a black screen and crash in the background (crash reporter will be visible in ps aux
indicating it did crash).
Found to crash often with Cloud Saves enabled as well. Particularly when loading the main menu.
This game required a lot of fiddling to get working without crashing (at least within the first 45 minutes). No changes to the proton version helped.
Basically, the following was necessary for me:
- Command Options: PROTON_NO_D3D11=1
- Disable cloud sync
- Run default version (not x64)
I'm still not positive this solved all the crashing. I may have gotten luck this last 45-60 minutes.
he menus and opening cinematics are fine fun but once in game, the hitches cause too many issues to make playing fun.
6.9-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
During gameplay, the game will stutter every few seconds. This causes weird movements and unpredictable physics. For instance:
- Moving toward a ship, the game will hitch, and then I'll be facing the wrong direction.
- Attempting to slowly move a plate, the games will hitch, and the plate I was holding is moving away from me fast.
Menus and cinematics seem to run without a problem.
Without Proton 7.0-4, the game WILL crash early into the game. Any version after 7.0-4 seems to have the same crashing issue (GE versions included).
While the game does run, it runs at <40 fps on average, even at highest TDP. For the visuals of the game, performance is pretty poor.
Given the type of game, the performance is pretty bad. CPU and GPU usage is fairly low but still the game is very choppy/slow. No other games on my Deck have this sort of performance issue.
Fullscreen had an issue initially. I had to delete the Config.txt file allow clicking on any menu items. This is likely a bug with the game and ultrawidescreen rather than Proton.
Game crashes after initial nVidia/Marvel movies
Tried 6.3, Experimental, and 6.21-GE-2. All resulted in a crash after the initial movies play.
Fails to start
The game fails to start and appears to crash with the 3 versions of Proton tested:
- Default
- Experimental
- GE-Proton8-32
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
While not necessarily a major bug, I found that when the game is initially loading, the FPS of the game reached into the hundreds. This was causing my video card to whistle/whine. The FPS limit in the settings of the game doesn't kick in initially.
This is the only game I've noticed this on but found setting the max framerate in the launch command fixed this: DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
I found no issues while playing the found, outside the aforementioned high framerate on initial load. I experienced no crashes or or other bugs.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Game does not exit. Needs to be force closed.
Runs great but like a few other games, the frame rate is in the hundreds to thousands. This causes my video card to start to whistle. There no option in-game to limit the framerate but using DXVK_FRAME_RATE does work.
Runs great. No graphical or audio issues. Alt Tabbing does cause a crash, even in windowed mode.
Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Game does crash when alt tabbing out of the game
unset XDG_CONFIG_HOME; unset XDG_DATA_HOME; %command%
Game would not save without launch options set
Game crashes on startup
VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%
Tried multiple proton version (8.0-4, experimental, and GE-Proton8-22) along with multiple launch options.
Unfortunately, no configuration seems to help with launching the game. This appears to be an nvidia specific issue given AMD users are not seeing many problems. Maybe driver updates will help in the future.
-skip_config_dialog
I set the Refresh Rate to 40 Hz and the TDP to 10W. The default settings in the Witness enables VSync.
With a few tweaks, it runs and looks great. If needed, you could probably lower other settings to get more out of the battery life but the settings noted are a good starting point.
I have not played through the whole game yet but the little amount I have worked well.
Crackling during the opening splash movies, haven't noticed anywhere else
Changing from Borderless to window causes the game to crash
Needed to disable ESYNC within the Lutris Runner settings
