A small warning that if you limit the framerate to something other than 60 fps at least one scene will get stuck and not respond until you change it back to 60 fps and reload the scene. If you just leave the settings alone it should work perfectly though.
Uses keyboard prompts that took me a couple tries to figure out what button was mapped to them, but otherwise it's totally playable
The only minor issue is needing to manually pull up the keyboard to enter text for puzzle solutions, but other than that it's perfect.
Solved some puzzles and it worked perfectly out of the box. It actually works better than Win10 where it would randomly crash sometimes when it lost focus, which didn't happen to me here.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
In certain areas the level geometry blinks out of existence for a frame or two now and then. It's only a graphical issue and doesn't affect gameplay even if it's kind of annoying, but at least it doesn't happen in most parts of the game.
Without the launch option set it can be just as unstable as on Windows without the fan patch. My experience on the Steam Deck was about the same as on my Linux desktop though: the launcher is mildly annoying and the graphical glitches in certain areas are mildly annoying, but otherwise everything works fine.
Loads the main menu fine, but trying to actually start playing gets stuck on a black screen on both Deck and desktop
As of 1.1.0.0 with the 64-bit client everything works perfectly for me with no tweaks or fixes required. I can find no traces of the previous problems running through Proton that prevented the game from being playable.
The game runs fine on a technical level and doesn't seem to have any additional problems that don't also exist on Windows
It sort of has controller support but only displays KB/M prompts on the screen and doesn't really explain what buttons do what, so good luck.
The game is kind of a mess and has various issues that make it hard to enjoy, but as far as I can tell that's just how the game itself is and not anything to do with any issues related to running it through Proton.
Finished the game (but not all achievements) and don't remember running into any problems
Characters were invisible at first, but it works fine with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" for the whole ten minutes it takes to 100% complete the game.
The game itself runs great at a consistent 60 fps, but load times are extremely long even on an NVMe drive.
Maybe if you have a higher tolerance for long load times it'd be ok, but I'm talking 12+ seconds just to restart the same fight and at least double that to get into it from the main menu in the first place. Every. Single. Time.
Aside from that Proton GE seems to have fixed everything else I checked at this point like the cutscenes and audio desync.
The entire screen goes black if the mouse isn't constantly moving
The current version of Proton (9.x) doesn't display anything, Experimental doesn't display anything, GE 9.x didn't work either, and versions older than 8.x I tried are also broken in a slightly different way. There may be a version out there that does work better, but I didn't want to spend any more time fiddling with it for such a short game.
Minor problems, but no worse than on Windows
The game runs fine, but load times between areas are noticeably longer than they really should be.
All the additional DLC is available for free off EA's site, but I couldn't actually get the game to authenticate anything other than the ones I own on Steam through the Digital Deluxe Edition. I needed the DLL crack that bypasses DLC validation to be able to get it to recognize them, even though I'm using the legit installers straight from EA. This is apparently a problem for people on Windows too, and once I took care of that I've had no other problems.
At first it crashed right away, but after adding "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%" to the launch options it ran flawlessly for as long as it took to complete the entire game.
Currently doesn't work at all past the first few minutes with default Proton/no tinkering
The first few minutes work fine, but then it gets stuck and refuses to advance to the next scene. I can't tell if it's softlocked or it's not drawing stuff to the screen or it's not responding to input anymore or what exactly is causing it, but it definitely doesn't work.
It felt like sometimes the selection cursor would get stuck or move a bit erratically, and toggling the card info would also sometimes get stuck or not respond the first time I pushed the button. I have no idea whether any of that is specifically because of Proton or because the game's controller support just isn't great in general because I haven't played on Windows/desktop to compare.
Works fine out of the box
100%ed the game and don't remember having any problems with it
Some red text on certain backgrounds can be very hard to read, but it all shows up in the log if you miss any of it. Some text that's part of some images is hard to read at that low a resolution and does not show up in the log, but there's not much of it.
Other than the launcher being slightly glitchy it works perfectly out of the box
The launcher is a little glitchy and doesn't redraw correctly when switching tabs or changing settings, but in game everything is fine
It's playable, and I 100% completed it, but the UI issues I had might not be acceptable for some people.
The actual gameplay area was fine, but every time I played, after finishing a few puzzles the UI (level select, etc.) would stop drawing correctly. Still playable, but a little annoying.
It definitely wasn't meant to be played with a controller, but it's a VN so the trackpads/touchscreen are good enough
