Missing startup logo and cutscene videos. To fix that, apply mf-install and mf-installcab to game WINEPREFIX.
Low FPS and hiccups when Texture Streaming is Ultra or High. To remedy that, set Texture Streaming to Low or Medium.
Second game launch crash with reset game to default settings prompt. Next launch is successful. Then crash on launch and prompt repeats again. To fix that, in game settings switch DirectX 12 to DirectX 11.
Game UI is designed for wide screens with aspect ratio 16:9 and above. On 4:3 and 5:4 monitors (I have 1280x1024) screen always has 16:9 aspect ratio picture in full height with cropped outer screen parts. Some wide UI elements are partially invisible due to that. Same happens in Windows. Impossible to fix due to game UI design.
DOOM 2016 in Linux Mint 19.2 from Steam Play/Proton runs out of box and exceptionally well even on 10 years old system with i5 750 CPU, 8 GB RAM and Radeon R9 280 GPU, using OpenGL driver an medium graphic settings. Kernel 5.0, GPU driver - amdgpu. Experienced no crashes and weird glitches except lagging on level loading and transfer between zones which is obvious on 10 years old PC.
Game is configurable and playable in single without problems. However impossible to use for ordinary people.
GPU Driver Error prompt on launch: "Updated drivers are required. Installed: 470.57. Required: 471.11 or newer". Impossible to fix because latest Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu repository are 470.57.02 version.
Without all game configuration file removing from Proton steamuser profile directories game crashes on second launch after logging into Bethesda.
Doom Eternal at current state have launch issues on both Proton 6.3-6, Proton Experimental and GloriousEggroll Proton 6.15-GE-2. Without configuration file removal after playing game always crashes on second launch after logging into Bethesda. Screen freeze when game menu soundtrack begins and after few seconds game crashes. GLX library tweaking in Steam launch arguments like __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=bla %command% doesn't help. Which is sad, because when main menu appear, till exit from game further no problems was noticed nor in custom configuration nor during playthrough. Playthrough is very smooth and on RTX GPU hardware even ray tracing works fine.
Have no idea why this game is is Gold rated. With current launch hassles it can be only Bronze rated.
Works flawlessly and without lagging in both full screen and windowed modes on my old i5@750 CPU with Radeon R9 280 GPU and ancient 19" monitor in 1280x1024 resolution.
FYI: To run Vulcan/DXVK on Radeon R9 2xx/3xx in Ubuntu 18+ or Mint 19+, install amdgpu and with mesa-vulkan-drivers and blacklist default radeon driver. I did all by this tutorial: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1094443/ubuntu-18-04-1-lts-r9-390x-amdgpu-guide-testing-summary
No problems with installation and game launch, but crash on new game.
After intro text 5-6 seconds on blank screen follow with ambient noises from gameplay are heard. Then game always crash. When savegame from middle of game in Windows machine is used, same crash few seconds after loading happen with nearby roaming robot noises added to ambience. Seems a bug in game Apex engine.
Except Origin related glitches single play experience is excellent.
In Fullscreen mode Alt-Tab from cause game to become unresponsible with black screen. In borderless window mode game window is forced topmost window - to do something outside game, game must be switched in windowed mode with Alt-Enter and minimized. One third of minimizing actions ends with game becoming unresponsible to input or complete freezing with black game window.
Origin client have known stability issues in Wine and also does not close completely. If game launch freeze and before next game launch close Steam app completely and relaunch again.
Cutscenes slightly stutter sometimes on High/Ultra quality. Probably due to slow CPU in my box.
To pass game activation in Origin, install winetricks in game Proton/Wine bottle then add wininet and winhttp to it.
Run Origin permissions fix to avoid ingame stuttering (thanks to Spudley): sudo chmod -R 555 ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1238000/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application\ Data/Origin
In Fullscreen mode Alt-Tab sometimes cause game to become unresponsible with black screen. This issue however disappeared with monitor/resolution change from 1280x1024 (4:3) to 1920x1080 (16:9) at middle of game. Seems game have issues with different dimension resolutions than 16:9 ones. Also in borderless window mode game window is forced topmost window - to do something outside game, game must be switched in windowed mode with Alt-Enter and minimized.

No significant problems experienced. Game is fully playable.
UI response in true full screen mode is unbelievably slow. In usual borderless window mode no performance problems, only main menu seems too narrow with control title text overlapping in some places.
New game intro cutscene video doesn't appear. Must press a key to skip it.
Same gaming experience as from playing in Windows. Except no starting videos.
Video doesn't play (opening ad video and game intro video).
Game version: Janky Alpha Build 0.1.3.4.15 (Nov 10, 2019). Same alpha issues (cropped picture on 4:3 screen, no subtitles, many disabled options) happen in Windows. So Proton status for game would be Gold if no missing videos.
Works out of box except intro logos and videos.
Occasional lag in few places - didn't happened in Windows.
Launch mf-install to see main menu background video. ND logo and cutscene video will still have only audio without picture.
Require mf-install to make little post-intro cutscene with boot screen visible. Otherwise works fine.
Cut-scenes, intro and outro videos have audio but no video.
Linux native binaries are absent. Only Windows/Proton mode is playable.
Demo level is a little too dark. Either Nvidia driver issue or lack of HDR support in Linux. In Windows with enabled HDR lighting was perfect.
With same hardware twice slower frame rate than under Windows causing hiccups on large scenes. Resolution change and lower graphic settings does not help.
Game does not start with stock Proton 5.0 - either 5.0-9 or 5.0-13 (latest at now). Require Proton GE to run. Successfully played under Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST. Instruction how to set it up: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/wiki
Except freezing on each second or third launch game works just fine.
Some dialogs and cutscenes partially lack voice audio - only subtitles are present. Though I believe it is due to missing audio resources and not due to Proton.
Often first game launch is unsuccessful. Game window simply "copy" visible desktop area an freeze. Game need to be stopped or closed. On second launch game starts successfully.
From insignificant issues in game like differences in cutscene and dialog voiceover and missing audio parts I believe that game itself works fine.
Playable almost without problems.
Setting graphics to borderless window make game and Mate taskbar button invisible. Game is still running in background (sounds and music are present), but is not accessible by Alt-Tab or by other means. Also in fullscreen mode Alt-Tab-ing to desktop during mission and waiting a minute or two in some occassions make game falling back to desktop on any access (Alt-tab or clicking on taskbar button).
DLSS and Ray Tracing doesn't work on NVIDIA RTX GPU also on Proton with proprietary drivers. Turning on Ray Tracing freeze the game and also permanently make screen black during new launch on player profile selection screen. Must delete user_settings.config
file to restore graphics back to normal. Seems driver or software issue.
Game run just fine on PC hardware capable to run it.
In Options / Video set windowed mode to Borderless Window. This will fix blank screen with cursor issue on returning in game after switching around programs with Alt-Tab. No other problems noticed.
Works out of box.
Game have native Linux mode. However in Proton mode it have much better performance. Like 50 FPS in 720p at low/medium settings in native mode vs 70+ FPS in 1440p at high settings when launched under Proton.
Works out of box like charm under Proton 5.0 and above.
Alt-Tab in full screen mode does not work. Use Alt+Enter to get out of full screen to windowed mode before switching to other program. And Alt+Enter again to get back into full screen.
If game crash on first launch, go to Steam Play settings and switch Proton version to at least Proton 5.0 and above.
