Needs Proton 8.0-5 as experimental-8.0-20240111c doesn't work
As I have Proton experimental as standard for all games that don't specify a version, the game stopped working for me. Forcing 8.0-5 helped.

after a few minutes of play time, looks good to me
seems like it just works

It just works (even on Nvidia without any tinkering) and is a nice game ;)
horizontal tearing due to async reprojection disabled, i think ?
i had to disable async reprojection despite having an Nvidia GPU otherwise after the logo you only got a black screen.
i think that disabling the async reprojection is causing horizontal tearing, but the game is playable.
Valve Index - Works flawlessly with disabled asynchronous reprojection

Works great as long as you don't open the SteamVR menu.
Crashes when opening the SteamVR menu, a restart is required.
The game works fine as long as you don't open the SteamVR Dashboard. But even then your current run is saved so nothing to lose really.
Crashes with an error message when opening SteamVR Overlay. Can't open the game again until SteamVR is restarted.

Occasionally stops, reporting a problem with the cursor. Also clearly a problem with error reporting, as the error code given is “Success” (errno=0).
I find that if this happens, it will then persistently hang on startup; there may be a file or two to delete in …/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/858260
but I don't yet know which. (I've been taking the sledgehammer approach of deleting it all.)
You will need to install the black-screen-fix
branch. It appears that legacy reprojection is required for this game (best to select this quickly while the game is starting up for the first time).
You have to edit "~/.steam/steam/config/steamvr.vrsettings" and add those lines : "steam.app.858260" : { "disableAsync" : true },
Ran out of the box, slight performance issues not in main gameplay.
Slight stuttering in some places, mainly main menu area and some times with dialogs open.
Proton 6.3-6 on GNU Guix with Flatpak 1.11.3 Steam
Black screen on start up. Beta branch "black-screen-fix" and Proton experimental are not working either.
Just take note of the asynchronous reprojection settings and the game should run fine.
This game has conflicts with Asynchronous Reprojection on AMD and won't work if it is turned on. You can turn off only for this particular game by opening up the steamvr overlay when the splash screen appears, then selecting video settings, then change "Legacy Reprojection" to on. This way the game will work even on AMD hardware. For NVIDIA, you don't need to do that, it will work regardless of the setting. Currently I am running under Proton Experimental, but I think the fix has already been committed to Proton 6.3-6.
Played the game on Valve Index with both AMD RX 6800 XT and NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER.
Worked out of the box for me despite the numerous reports I have seen about the game not working at all under linux/AMD.
Game window appears with a black screen and closes after a few seconds. Nothing displayed in HMD

Game launches to a logo, then cuts to a black screen, then crashes to desktop after about a minute.
Devs have added a "Black Screen Fix" in their beta channels, but apparently it only works for Nvidia users.
Tested on Proton 6, Proton Experimental and Proton 6.10-GE-1 with much the same result (ProtonGE didn't even get to the logo - just a Unity crash on start).
Still doesn't work
(Reported experimental version: Proton Experimental)
Used beta game branch [black-screen-fix]
No savegame loss, no reinstall.

Using the Valve Index HMD & controllers.
And we're back.
Had to start a new save as my old one was gone. Could be a side effect of version 1.0, a different version of proton or the fact that I've uninstalled and reinstalled since then.
Working again with the latest version of proton experimental. Had to enable the black-scree fix beta but worked fine after that.
installs but fails to start
Game as well as both current betas are still broken
Logo shows up in the HMD, then the game blackscreens and ceases doing anything. The issue appears to be with SteamVR and/or the SteamVR Unity plugin, which apparently have hellish compatibility problems.

Game Still Works.. if You Download Old Version from Steam Depot
To play this while it's still borked, use DepotDownloader with .NET Core (you might need to use Windows for this part, as Steam Console depot downloading still isn't fixed)
In CMD, cd to DepotDownloader folder then:
dotnet ./DepotDownloader.dll -app 858260 -depot 858261 -manifest 5404152963110278838
Then on Linux, replace all the game files in Steam/steamapps/common/UntilYouFall/
with the older game files you just downloaded.
It's not ideal, but it works if you want to still play. Where does the depot info come from? Here: https://steamdb.info/depot/858261/manifests/

Used to work. Can't access main screen.
The game doesn't start properly anymore. I could play without issues in Oct 2020
In the HMD it endlessly shows loading "Until you fall". And seems to open the game on the desktop screen but ends up black with just a notification "Access while playing" with a gamepad icon which seems to be for Big picture mode. (I tried

Doesn't work since the 1.0 release.
Used to work so well that it was my go-to game for confirming that things still worked after I made system changes.
We need a mechanism for revoking a games gold rating if it stops working altogether like this one. Someone will see the gold rating on the steam web page and be fooled into thinking that it's still valid.

Title card is displayed in the headset, black screen afterwards
Waited for good few minutes with no reaction. Had to exit the game through SteamVR dashboard.
Prerelease version worked, 1.0 release just shows a black screen and eventually crashes.

UntilYouFall.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
Game crashes at launch.
Found the following in error.log:
UntilYouFall.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module UntilYouFall.exe at 0033:8540c624.
The last error in Player.log right before the crash is:

Unloading 6 Unused Serialized files (Serialized files now loaded: 0)
Crash!!!
But i am not sure if this is somehow related.
Early Access version worked fine, release version (1.1.0.160534 (Release_1.1.0)) crashes on launch.

Main menu volume frequently unadjustable using SteamVR dashboard. In-game per-profile settings work, however.
Runs out of the box on 5.0-9. Great game too.
Valve Index - Game works out of box
Audio is crackly, but it's still clear enough to understand.
Game's framerate is a bit choppy, but it's still very playable, especially if you turn down the resolution.
Dark Souls of VR! LOL.
It went into a black screen and made my steamvr crash once or twice when leaving the game. But only then. Playing the game did not show any issues whatsoever.
Had problems getting the game to launch on newer versions of Proton. Not sure if reinstalling the game or using Proton 4.11 was what got it to behave.
