Game runs well out of the box
X360 controller worked all throughout, no crashes, beat the game.
Always crashes during season changes.
- Set framerate to lowest option (25fps with a 75Hz monitor), otherwise game crashes almost immediately once in-game.
- Set quality preset to Low, otherwise game crashes frequently.
- Vsync needed to be turned off otherwise it seems to cause crash issues too.
- Disabled Steam Input (keeping Overlay on is fine), but I can't say if this actually helped as I did it with the 6.3-8 switch. This removed d-pad functionality for me on my 360 controller, which otherwise worked fine.
- If all else fails with crashing, try deleting the game's prefix so Steam regenerates it. This worked for me when experimenting with settings, and your progress should be auto-saved in the cloud.
Once you tweak the game properly, it runs for hours at a time (I haven't crashed with the settings above except during season changes). Unfortunately it's a pain to find the proper settings, and from how others talk, they're not universal either.

NVIDIA Vulkan Beta Driver 455.22.04 (fixes floating/misplaced grass, trees, rocks NOTE: unstable)
Trying to go fullscreen crashes the game. Adjusting resolution can also crash the game.
Framerate around 20fps and heavily stuttering with Original preset, around 40-45fps and a lot less stuttering if you set Render Scale to 50%.
Make sure you copy d3dcompiler_47.dll from
"Horizon Zero Dawn/Tools/ShaderCompiler/PC/10.0.18362.0/d3dcompiler_47.dll"
to
"Horizon Zero Dawn/d3dcompiler_47.dll"
otherwise the game will crash on startup.
Works well with 7.0-3
Occasional text spasming in menus; only a slight nuissance.
During loading the game drops to 1fps and audio stutters until it's done loading.
When going back to gameplay after being in the Settings menu, the game would occasionally be fully black. Going back into Settings and backing out a couple times fixed it.
I would recommend using a gamepad, as the game is clunky without one. The game has no gamepad support, but works incredibly well with Steam's controller remapping feature.
Valve Index setup runs perfect with the game out of the box with Proton Experimental.
Proton 5.13-6 can load the game fine, but can't load the intermission load screens properly, so you can't play the actual game.
With Experimental everything is working 100%.
Tested:
-Completed all normal story missions (and one hard mode one)
-Completed the arcade modes (both normal and Miku)
-Completed 100 stage dance battle
-All the other menu options are working as well
Use Proton Experimental!
I played in 1080p60Hz mode, the game seems to lock framerate at 38fps though.
Audio/input timing seems perfect and doesn't unsync.
I've beaten two levels so far, the only bug I've encountered was the timing of the pods in the final section of level two being sped up (meaning you visually get hit, but the inputs the game wants are still timed properly with the audio, so it doesn't affect gameplay)
Gamepad support works well.
Cutscenes are all loading and playing properly
Disabling esync helps get rid of almost all random frame drops that desync audio and input
Beat all six reports, notable bugs encountered:
-Some projectiles visually desync in the final segment of report 2 (happened in 3/3 runs; audio and input are fine so doesn't really affect gameplay)
-Desync of audio and input during the end of the final segment of report 6 (happened in 2/3 runs I've done, but may have been a result of taking screenshots in the first two runs).
Game Still Works.. if You Download Old Version from Steam Depot
To play this while it's still borked, use DepotDownloader with .NET Core (you might need to use Windows for this part, as Steam Console depot downloading still isn't fixed)
In CMD, cd to DepotDownloader folder then:
dotnet ./DepotDownloader.dll -app 858260 -depot 858261 -manifest 5404152963110278838
Then on Linux, replace all the game files in Steam/steamapps/common/UntilYouFall/
with the older game files you just downloaded.
It's not ideal, but it works if you want to still play. Where does the depot info come from? Here: https://steamdb.info/depot/858261/manifests/
Mouse cursor would not go away. Not sure if it was a Linux issue or not.
Custom games with friends works (not sure about matchmaking), but you have to host the game.
protontricks 512490 dotnet40
Music does not play
Switch to Proton 4.11 and install dotnet40 via protontricks to get the game to boot.
Game plays perfect, but there will be no music.
