It crashes to desktop often enough that it is impossible to use out of the box, especially with a controller
mangohud MANGOHUD_CONFIG=cpu_temp,gpu_temp,vram,font_size=15 %command%
Steam controller trackpad was mapped as a joystick, but worked as a mouse in the game
Crashes regularly to desktop
I will try again with GloriousEggroll 9.2
40 fps, 9 watts

works out of the box with proton 8.X
It didn't look like the requested resolution was applied during fullscreen, and the game looked out of proportion. I'm guessing it's because I'm using a tiling window manager instead of a proper desktop environment.

Works perfectly fne out of the box
I made no changes, just played it straight "out-of-the-box." It ran flawlessly, and cannot understand why Steam claims it's "unsupported."
Works great on Steam Deck. Highly recommend!
Great hidden gem of a game. If you love stealth type of games, then you'll like this take on the genre.
The first launch was with default proton. It was pretty good. Then i tried proton exp. I perceived it to be a little more stable on the frames. Used 7 watts. It seemed like a more stable @ 40fps like that. Also, don't touch the screen to select any options. It gets stuck on K&B input. Then you have to restart the game to be back at controller input. No biggie.

In some arrays game slow down to 10fps
Assuming the game is running at full performance, it's still rather enjoyable despite the regions with lag.
Game will crash periodically with Esync enabled.
Some areas in the game perform terribly slow, regardless of graphics settings. I also had this weird issue where on startup, the game will sometimes be running normally (full 144 FPS), and other times be very slow by the main menu (~15 FPS).
Some users report using gamemode to improve performance. I have tested both with and without, and found it made no difference. The random poor performance on startup is not affected by this, at least for me.
Played the game with these launch options: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% I didn't use Wine D3D as others recommend because with it the game crashes every ~20 minutes. I used gamemode to increase performance, without it the framerate is not great.
I played with Dualshock4, but if I select it in the settings then the controls goes wild and register wrong buttons, so I left the default "xbox gamepad" in the settings.

Game refuses to start. I hit the play button in steam, but nothing happens.
Installed on secondary library on my backup hard drive that requires manual mounting after boot, however, steam automatically detects the drive and library once it's mounted.
Tested default, experimental, 6.3, and 5.13

I would say yes and no because it is not exactly "out of the box" but with a minimum of tweaks it becomes fully playable.
Added this string on option launch - PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Changing the resolution like 1920x720 may split the full screen in half but you can easily fix that with ALT+TAB to the desktop and then selecting the game back again.
It's playable but in few areas the frame rate drastically decreases, even to 10-15 fps. Unfortunately, I had no way to disable the post processing effects which commonly are the heaviest, beside antialiasing and blur movement.
I don't know what exactly triggered this but it might happens that all the VFX placed in the map like watery effects, smoke and flames from torches and candles show themselves with X Y Z axis messed up. Changing resolution or quitting the game, and then reloading, might solve it easily.
Funciona a la perfección.

Played with Proton 6.3-7 and options PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Disable Esync to keep the game from crashing

Like others, I also had to use "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" as launch option.
In this specific game DualShock 4 didn't work for me on Proton 4.11 and newer, so I had to revert to Proton 4.2
Had to use proton 4.2.9 for the Dualshock 4 controller to work properly for controls like Sprint and Sneak.
Launch options "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%" using gamemode.

I enjoyed playing it and it works ok but it requires tinkering and will not work perfectly even after you tinker.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Sometimes the game will open but will minimize himself nonstop and will require to reopen the game
Some times the RT button was not working. And in other time the A button will not make your character hide
gamemoderun %command% fixing the issue.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 fixing the issue

The game run out of the box but with terrible framerate (10-50 fps) and it closes every 20 minutes.
I've fixed the framerate installing the gamemode from Feral interactive. GameMode
and running the game with:
gamemoderun %command%
with this option I've got 100-150 fps but the game still closes every 20 minutes.
Disabling Esync fix the problem with the game closing, but you lost a lot of performance.
My final configuration looks like:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
With this I've been able to play the game 2 hour in a row with a stable framerate of 30fps
Better performance with gamemode from Feral interactive. GameMode
Variable framerate (10-50fps)
With default Proton 5.0-9 configuration, the game closes every 20 minutes
The game would work perfectly if it was not for the frequent crashes every 20 minutes. You can still play it and enjoy it in my opinion.
I could not use RT and LT to navigate the inventory and quests
The game usually crashes after 20-30 minutes. Then I just restart it.

The game runs about the same (if perhaps a bit better) as on Proton 4.9-x. There is some minor hanging in the forest area though, an issue that wasn't apparent in Proton 4.9-x to the best of my memory. As with the last Proton version, the game still faces the same problems with postprocessing, especially motion blur. Bloom, however, seems to have a negligible impact on performance.
Given this, it's still recommended to have almost all postprocessing off except for bloom and perhaps anti-aliasing (anti-aliasing seems to incur a penalty of about 5-10%) for those who would prefer to keep that on.
I tested the game again with two different controllers: Playstation Dualshock 4 and Switch Pro Controller. I'm happy to report that the Dualshock controller now works flawlessly. However, the game is still sadly unplayable with the Switch Pro controller, my preferred controller, having the same issues as with others' past reports.

Only the drivers 384 works, don't start with 410+. Regularly black/dark (ambient light only) 3d scene, or crash (error popup), which requires a restarting, otherwise normally playable.

I played just a little, but the game ran perfectly so far. I only had to disable the post-processing effects (especially motion blur) to gain Windows-near performance. Also, my Xbox 360 controller works perfectly in the game.

Game runs smoothly at near windows performance after disabling almost all postprocessing. Motion blur incurs the highest amount of performance penalty, and disabling it gives 60%+ performance, so it's highly recommended you disable that.
The game still does not work with a controller.

Biggest problem is your mouse losses focus from the game window and no controller support.

Crashes at start

You need first Protontricks: https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks
The i open the Terminal an looked for the game :
protontricks -s Ghost of a tale
something like this should come up :
Found the following games: Ghost of a Tale (417290)
now you open the Gui:
protontricks 417290 --gui
Select the Default Wineprefix
Then:
Install a Windows DLL
Install here : dotne40 and vcrun2010
After installed start the game with
"PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DefaultLimitNOFILE=1048576 DXVK_HUD=1 %command%"
and Your done :)
A good Video who helped me was :

Can't see the Mouse at all, games freezes after quit

Mouse will go wacky once in awhile and will only spin left and right, but up and down won't work. Alt-tabbing out and back into the game works, but it will start to annoy after awhile.

With this driver only the game works fine visually. The controller is unusable however making it horrible to play.

Game's picture flickers constantly, when I move it become all black with some rays of light that are shining down into the starting area.

dxvk and esync wine need to be disabled. esync causes an instant crash and dxvk causes character models to not render. need to set the following as launch options: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

No fullscreen, characters won't render, and no controller support.

Crashes as soon as it's launched.

need to use the following settings: "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11": "1" and "PROTON_NO_ESYNC": "1" you can find this setting file in .steam/steamapps/common/Proton(version)/
