DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120 obs-gamecapture gamemoderun %command%
Must do:
Deus Ex: GOTY must be installed (or you get a “Core” package error).
Select Direct3D 9 (it actually runs Vulkan thanks to DXVK; OpenGL was never finished)
Select ALAudioSubsystem (Galaxy crashes on certain sounds)
Optional stuff:
“Settings > HDTP Options” - character models are vanilla by default, can enable HD
“Settings > Sound > Soundtrack” can be set to “Deus Ex” for vanilla
“Settings > Display > UI Scaling” is set to “HiDPI” in 4K, but “Relaxed” or “Dynamic” are bigger
“Settings > Sound > Hardware 3D Support” and “Dolby Surround Sound” can't be enabled (it's not OpenAL, it's ALAudio v2.4.7 — fake EAX for Windows; but you can overwrite
Deus Ex/Revision/System
with newer v2.4.8 for better reverb)FPS drops on old hardware? Use GPU scaling: for desktop in 1080p set the game to 720p full-screen and:
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=1 %command%
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120 %command%
When launching the game for the first time, be sure to select the DX9 renderer. It has excellent compatibility (thanks to DXVK) and runs really really well. Even on my laptop, I could easily hit 200fps most of the time, which I believe is simply the upper limit of what this renderer supports. I decided to cap the framerate at 120fps though with DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120
.
I'm actually not a huge fan of all the mods that are bundled with Revision. However, the developers have through the many updates made this a highly configurable package, making this almost a mod loader. I recommend going into the settings and making sure everything is set to vanilla, including graphics, textures, music and level design. You can enable Human Renovation as a small fix pack. As a result, you get vanilla Deus Ex (still one of the absolute best games ever), but with cloud saves, achievements, the DX9 renderer bundled out of the box, and a few bug fixes an quality of life fixes.
Crashes when you launch the game
Vanilla game works fine, but this mod crashes on startup no matter what I do (changing the renderer, even adding the DX10 renderer, fiddling with the resolutions).
If you don't mind the screen lag and are happy to resuce the resolution to 800 x 600 with reduced textures then this plays beautifully.
There is no degredation BUT you will need to lower the channels down to 16 from the defaulted 28 which crashes out the game. ?!? 28 channels ?!?
As mentioned there is significant screen lag on the mouse.
Given the hardware this is running on there is significant moue to screen movement lag at any resolution above 800 x 600. Also the textures had to be reduced to low or minimum to get any playable movement out of the game given the movement lag. A higher spec. hardware setup will most likely play much smoother.
To be honest the reduced textures are not noticeable, even when enabloing the HDTP Texture pack in the menu. The main issue here is mouse lag but again, that may be due to the hardware and driver settings on the tested platform. This game does run under the 6.3.8 Proton setting.
When it runs, it runs. When it crashes it crashes. When it runs it runs beautifully! There is no control over it crashing...
No launch options required
When running at 1024 x 768 the mouse was severely lagged. Reducing the resolution to 800 x 600 reduced the lag significantly but it was still present.
Changed the Textures to medium and forced the resolution to 800 x 600. It will run at 1024 x 768 but it is laggy due to DX9 interpretation.
When collecting some items the game would switch to the desktop without crashing but it would crash out completely and close the game at random after extensive gameplay.
You will need to use Proton version 6-3-8 and you will need to set the resolution to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 or you will get Direct X crashes and the game will not run!
You may need to launch it several times after the initial install to get it to run stable but when it runs it runs good. However it will switch out to the desktop when collecting certain in-game items and you will have to switch back to the game which continues to run in the background. It will randomly crash out completely so watch out for that and save frequently!!!
I had good results from playing this with Proton 6-3-8 and it ran beautifully at 800 x 600 resolution, anything above 1024 x 768 crashes the Direct X rendering so maybe somebody with more experience will be able to work around that ;)
My system is an old Intel Quad Core 2500K with 16Gb of DDR3 RAM and an nVidia GTX 1050 ti running on the default Ubuntu 535 Proprietary Tested drivers.
works perfectly ootb
Works okay
Some stuttering
While the game runs decently well with the built-in DirectX 9 and OpenGL renderers, I find that it runs better with the DirectX 10 Unreal Engine renderer from Kentie. Make sure you install it to the Revision subdirectory and not the regular Deus Ex folder.
I made my own layout but haven't posted it yet.
Changed refresh rate to 40 Hz. Despite the original Deus Ex being an old game, Revision adds a lot of extra lighting and more NPCs, so it's not great for your battery.
Running at the default 800p, the game has very small text, but I bumped the resolution up to 1000p (1600x1000) and enabled UI scaling in the game, which made the text much more readable.
Game runs perfectly once I did the following:
- Had to install Deus Ex: GOTY to get rid of "missing core" error message.
- Had to downgrade to version 6.3-8 or the game would run in a minimized window that would not maximize.
- Had to change the graphics driver from the default OpenGL to DirectX in order to get 32 bit color. OpenGL seemed to be doing ugly 8bit color which made the game graphics very dark.
Once those 3 changes were made the game has run perfectly with no issues.
Poor graphics with OpenGL. Proper graphics with DirectX.
Under versions above Proton 6 the game ran in a minimized window that could not be maximized.
Failure to work on latest Proton versions and OpenGL problems were resolved with trial and error until I found a stable configuration.
Once the correct combination of graphics library and Proton version was found the game has run beautifully.
Fantastic game that works great with your choice of community controller layout
Changed scope activation from a half trigger pull to the L4 button. Fixed the crouch button being incorrectly assigned to X instead of C.
Likely just a product of the mods that Revision uses, but looking out over a large open landscape got down into the high 20fps range. During normal gameplay it's 60, at the lowest 45.
Got Critical error on launch at first: "Can't find file for package Core" (History: UObject::SafeLoadError <- UObject::StaticLoadClass <- LaunchInitEngine) It is essential that both Deus Ex Revision and Deus Ex GOTY need to be on the same mounted drive, then DE Revision runs as expected.
When you put Deus Ex Revision and Deus Ex GOTY on the same mounted drive, then it should be fine
Runs terrible with OpenGL on my hardware; no problems with Direct3D
Remember to install Deus EX: GOTY first, ran good out of the box. Fullscreen works but only seems to scale up intermittently.
Runs great, best version of a great game
using Linux fixed a global lighting issue i was having on windows
Finally they fixed the mouse issue, I can finally play this game with awesomeWM.
Mouse locked at bottom right screen, cannot play.
In-game gamma is fine, but I can't move my mouse, it's locked to my bottom right screen. When I start a new game, my view just keep flicking around. Maybe it's just because I use awesomeWM and the game hate standalone window manager.
Hardware gamma and Redshift don't play well together, resulting in the game being too dark. Disable/kill Redshift and wait a few seconds before starting the game.
Alt-tabbing/fullscreen, can be finnicky when using a borderless window. Sometimes, instead of getting a 2560×1440 fullscreen window, I'll get something like 2560×1410, resulting in a visible black bar at the bottom. You may also have to alt-tab several times to get it to work.
The MOUSE4 and MOUSE5 auxiliary mouse buttons aren't recognized in Revision's port of The Nameless Mod, but work with the official campaign.
Proton 5.13 removed all the bugs I mentioned in my previous review. It's working perfectly now.
hangs on alt+tab from fullscreen mode; works fine if switched to windowed mode and then back to fullscreen
tolerable level of stuttering
Runs flawlessly
No issues
If you get the error "Critical error on launch: "Can't find file for package Core" make sure that the mod is installed on the same hard drive as the base game.
Mod runs fine and provides valid updates to a old favorite.
Runs much darker than I remember - this seems to be an issue with the base game as well. Required extra use of the light mod to navigate various levels. Still a good time.
Only one of the renderers worked for me (D3D I think? Can't easily check). Had to do a search to figure out how to get the graphics selector to come up a second time. Seems to run fine otherwise.
Runs perfectly fine.
Run without any issue out of the box
Working perfectly out of the box.
Runs perfectly without any issues. Note that DE: Game of the Year needs to be installed, then run once before Revision will work. (Revision depends on it for core files since it's a mod.)
Critical error on launch: "Can't find file for package Core" (History: UObject::SafeLoadError <- UObject::StaticLoadClass <- LaunchInitEngine)
- Tested: I played almost 2 hours. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Results: The game runs great out the box without any tweaks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Problems: None.
First time i thought that the mod was mod inclusive the complete game, but after getting an error, i realised that i first had to install the Deus Ex: Game of the year edition and then the Deus Ex: Revision.
Either Direct3D + OpenGL, all OK. Mouse sensitivity is way too high in menus (sensitivity settings don't help), but OK in-game
