Working marvelously! Would recommend. No tweaks needed.
Good experience
Remapped L1 to Look, L4 to Powers
This game runs extremely well ON HIGH, the controls are pretty good on the deck. Very playable
No problems running the game.
Runs flawlessly on highest graphical settings with my setup with current recommended default Proton version: 8.0.4
One of the very few games I haven't tinkered with. Kuddo's to the dev. As of this report game version 0.9 is released. Game is EA, but at the price point well worth the spend compared to amount of content.
Works great, even though I refunded it
New illumination is broken and will cause colour artifacting.
Open '.../steamapps/compatdata/362490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Exanima/Exanima.ini' and add 'GILowPrecision = 1'
Fully playable once you modify the config file.
Exanima 0.8.4. wouldn't start, then i tried Glorious Egroll version 7.25 and it runs very good.
Dev suggested adding GILowPrecision = 1 to AppData/Roaming/Exanima/Exanima.ini
Developer suggestion seems to have resolved colour bloom issue for now.

Heavy artifacts
Modified shaders as per https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5450#issuecomment-1148048416
Was able to lunch but color was broken.
Was able to lunch but color was broken at the launch menu and when in game but worked fine during character creation. I have tried both GE and 7.0-2
game fails to launch at all
unable to play
Despite having "verified" Steam Deck compatibility, the game does not play well with the suggested control mapping.
Game is heavily mouse-centric, which doesn't translate well to the Deck.
I would not recommend playing this game on Deck. Despite claiming controller support, the support is exceptionally lacking.
A rainbow of artifacts covering the entire screen.
You can launch the game, but as soon as you get past the initial splash screen everything on the screen is a giant rainbow. You can see the Main Menu icons and start a game and move on to the character creation menus and they work fine, but once you get into the game the rainbow artifacts return. I've tested with GE Proton7-10 to GE Proton7-14, Proton Experimental, Proton Experimental [bleeding-edge], Proton 7.0-1 and Proton 6.3-8. All having the same issues.
Graphics are horribly bugged with new renderer as of 0.8.3
Game ran flawlesly before the new renderer that came with 0.8.3, now the game is covered in artifacts and everything flashes in extremely bright rainbow colors that warrant an epilepsy warning and make the game unplayable. Things render completely normally maybe 1/10 reboots. Opting into the beta branch didn't change anything.
Everything seems to work perfectly now!
unplayable due to new renderer al least in my rx5700
strange colors due to new renderer (perhaps on rx5700gpu?
i was playing this game with no problems until version 0.8.3 when i start the game the game has strange colors that make it unplayable i saw others say that its fixed perhaps for others gpus in mine doesnt work, fix this please.
The developers fixed the problems with the new engine, and using the beta branch the game works perfectly again!
Game works correctly out of the box now. Did some light testing, only played on the arena on training mode
The developer has eliminated previous issues with update 0.8.3, the latest public beta is running flawlessly on my system.
Frequent crashes and graphical issues make is tougher than normal to enjoy.
Menu background occasionally has a very green overlay. In-game textures aren't as vibrant. Screen stops rendering on knock out but can hear game continuing via sound and health bars. No mouse movement etc. Basically perma-death mode on first knock out.
Occasionally loads into frozen renderer or bright while may area.
Task error on knock out. Renderer stops but game continues.
After last update, we can play the game. Menu is showing up, but in the game textures are glitchy. not recommended to play it rn
Color glitches. Textures are either blue, or it looks like movies in mexico
Black Screen after Logo
Black screen at 0.8.3
Installation normal, after clicking play, bare mantle logo is shown, and then black screen. I can hear the menu options sound as i hover over them
BareMetal Logo then black screen with mouse cursor.
I can hear the mouse moving over the menu items and can click on them, but still all black.
New rendering engine breaks Proton compatibility
With the newly updated rendering engine the game no longer works in Proton. I only get the Bare Mettle logo. After that there is only a black screen with my mouse cursor visible.
The new rendering engine is out of beta and unfortunately I couldn't make it work with proton.
I tried all official proton releases (3.7, 3.11, 5, 6.3.8 and experimental)
Used to work, but as of 0.8.3, fails.
I've tried Proton-GE, Proton 6.3-8, and Proton 5.13-6, but it only came up with a blank screen. I fear their complete reworking of the rendering engine has run afoul of Linux. I see someone else said they saw it work in Beta?
Update 0.8.3 breaks rendering
You can see the cursor and nothing else
Beta works now!
I talked to the dev about the beta issues, and now can confirm the beta works perfectly with proton, same performance as on windows as well, maybe even better
The main branch currently runs without issue, amazing game! The beta branch with the new renderer displays only the void, unplayable.
Fine for now, but beware of beta
Could only switch program when steam overlay active, but couldn't activate steam overlay while the game is paused.
Playing on the upcoming beta is completely non-functional black screen. After that update, expect the entire experience to break.
Game starts and the BareMettle logo shows up, but after that nothing is rendered.
This only happens on the new renderer beta update, the current version is 0.8.1.6. The stable 0.8.0.x runs with the legacy renderer and is able to render the game normally under steam proton.
If the game is on any screen but (0,0) camera control breaks. More precisely, attempting to use orbit the camera or using cursor look causes the cursor to randomly jump around the screen, in turn causing the camera to rotate all over the place.
The game didn't like windowed or borderless modes on my system. Mouse tracking was off i.e. mousing over things would select the item below it etc. Setting the game to run in full screen resolved this.
