The Definitive Edition b0rked Linux Installs
Now that Creativerse has moved to their Definitive Version, the game no longer installs. I see a blank screen, briefly, when disappears as a Unity dialog appears with a progress indicator, then... nothing. The game just stops. Can't migrate my world until we figure this out.
Definitive Edition doesn't migrate or play
Using no command line options, I got the game to display a startup screen with menu options. You can change your settings, but Migrate doesn't migrate, Play doesn't play, and Quit doesn't quit. Had to tab over to Steam and tell it to stop the game to make it stop.
Launcher might start, but never the game...
I've tried Proton 5.13-4 as recommended practically everywhere, but this game just won't start for me. Tried some other start options, but always the same... get past the launcher (at best), and Steam's Play button comes back, indicating the game stopped before it even started. Ah well.
Recommend Proton-6.14-GE-2. Tried using earlier versions but it did not run as well (missing cut scenes, lockups, or other concerns).
The game played perfectly well for 11hours, before deciding it no longer wanted to start.
Had to F11 a couple of times to get Windowed to full resolution.
The game worked for over 11 hours, but now won't start at all.
After it complained that my save game was somehow different in the cloud vs. locally, and I told it to synchronize (preferring local), it no longer starts no matter what version of Proton I try. When it did work, I used Proton 6.15-GE-2 and had a pretty smooth experience. I enjoyed it while it lasted, though.
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false; %command%; xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s true
Used to work, but as of 0.8.3, fails.
I've tried Proton-GE, Proton 6.3-8, and Proton 5.13-6, but it only came up with a blank screen. I fear their complete reworking of the rendering engine has run afoul of Linux. I see someone else said they saw it work in Beta?
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false; PROTON_LOG=1 %command%; xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s true
Two small issues:
When stopping the game, it won't actually end without clicking 'Stop' within the Steam client.
Does not retain screen settings... have to set them again when starting the game each time.
It would probably work without tinkering... I have to tinker a bit to get around issues with XCFE and compositing (I need to do this with all my games).
Starts, doesn't load EasyAntiCheat libraries so you cannot play
Graphics looked mostly nice, except for a lot of jerkiness, but it just won't let you play since it can't seem to load the EasyAntiCheat libraries. Maybe one has to purchase this game directly from Amazon to make it work.
Also, I found it concerning that all the servers reported long ping times. I am located just north of where US-EAST-1 is located, yet my ping times were rated terrible by the game. As I work with US-EAST-1 all the time, I know the ping times should be excellent, so ... ?
As others pointed out, it won't successfully authenticate with Steam.
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false; %command% -ignore-windows-system-certs ; xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s true
Very smooth with my hardware and settings.
Fun game, works well, but best to reboot after playing.
When I end the game, closing out of it, if I don't reboot my system, I find that eventually my machine grinds to a halt.
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false; %command%; xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s true
Game initially started in a smaller windows on my large monitor. Needed to change the graphics settings in-game to full-screen for my monitor's resolution to get the proper setup. Basically, the game doesn't seem to properly detect your monitor settings.
One crash... the game had complained that I wasn't running on Windows 10, and when I went to exit the game it crashed. After adjusting my global proton settings to state that it's always Windows 10 and started the game again, no problems. (protontricks --gui, select any game, "Select the default wineprefix", "Run winecfg", Applications tab, set Windows Version to Windows 10, and click 'OK', then cancel out of remaining dialogs to end Winetricks).
Combat is significantly impacted. Unless you only wish to play in a social context, you can't reasonably play this game.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false; %command%; xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s true
Inconsistently heavy input lag
On occasion, the input lag is so significant as to prevent reasonably game play. At other times, it's perfect. This is on a machine that is on a network that can handle Stadia at 4k, so it shouldn't be an issue.
Given other people have not had my experience, from what I can see, I may have something wrong in my setup.
It's very, very difficult to play this game competently given the input lag. You might need to use the lowest graphics setting.
Some stuttering
Significant input lagging, difficult to play, despite using DX11 instead of DX12.
Tantalizingly unable to play
The game installs, starts, you can hear music, and even create a character and world, but the moment you try to play it, you only see the background graphics, hear the music, and nothing much more.
The 'Discord' and '@tinkertown' links work, as does the 'Report a bug' button, but you don't get to see the game.
Used Proton 5.13-2
When attempting to quit the game, at the menu, I could not successfully click on any of the buttons. I had to quit via Alt-F4.
I do not recall when this started working for me, but it works pretty well now. Very happy to be able to play this.
