Works fine with 3D Acceleration & Hi-Res enabled by default
Game picture will be flickering for a while when using Alt - Tab
, with 3D Acceleration & Hi-Res enabled
Had better avoid switching windows when using fullscreen mode with Hi-Res & 3D Acceleration enabled. Otherwise, basically runs fine, even better than running on Windows 10/11.

Need to force an older version of Proton.
gamescope -f -w 1728 -h 1080 -- %command%

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia gamemoderun %command%

The game crashes on a black window when trying to escape from fullscreen using game settings menu.
Zuma's Revenge! is playable on Fedora Linux 40 (KDE) with Proton 9.0-2, but it's impossible to escape the fullscreen mode by simply turning it off.
Runs perfectly.
Black screen only
Once I launch the game I get a full screen of black and no sound, no response. I can only exit with Alt+F4.
Works better than running on Current Version of Windows
It defaulted to 100 FPS, Ultra Settings, and with 3D Acceleration On. I recommend playing these games on Linux than forcing it to Windows.
Runs Perfect
Works flawlessly out of the box
Plays great out of the box
I installed it and then played it. hires and hardware acceleration was enabled by default.
Disable dsdmo library in winecfg
Startup error (Access violation on bass.dll)

-changedir
I had to use Proton 4.2.9 and add -changedir to the Launch Settings. After that, ran flawlessly.

Startup error (Access violation on bass.dll)
Access violation error on bass.dll. To make this game work you should disable "dsdmo" library on game's Wine Config: protontricks --gui Select Zuma Revenge game. Choose default prefix, once Wineconfig is open, select "Library" tab and add "dsdmo", and disable it. Steps found from this link: https://www.atpeaz.com/access-violation-exception-bass-dll-crossover-21-fix/

Zuma's Revenge won't launch
Using Proton Experimental (Bleeding-Edge), game displays a fatal error and quits.
"Exception: Access violation (code 0xc0000005) at address 110095A9 in thread 12C" error pops up after a black screen
Very good out of the box. Needs a couple of tweaks to get HiRes working to make it great.
The game itself works absolutely fine without any tweaks. However, if you want the HiRes graphics, you have to apply the same tweaks as you need in windows. That is, editing the ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Zuma's Revenge/compat.cfg file and using protontricks to edit the registry key. Look at post #9 in this thread for the file changes, and post #15 for the registry changes: https://steamcommunity.com/app/3620/discussions/0/558749824476959109/
Minor issue in that you may see the mouse pointer 'disappear' when hovering over menu items. Selecting use custom cursor in the menu should fix this. If not, there is a DRM-free copy of the main executable that will be created whilst the game is running, that you can copy over the original: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3620/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/
If you have old save games from a Windows install, you can copy them to here: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3620/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/Steam/ZumasRevenge/users/ This game doesn't support Steam Cloud saves, hence why you need to copy them over.
Game works perfectly fine. HD works perfectly too, if you set the OS to Windows XP through protontricks/winetricks.
Runs great OOTB, high-res doesn't work

-changedir in launch options
The game works quite well, however to make it work you have to make certain changes to the steam settings
For the game to work you have to add the following text to the game launch options in settings:
-changedir
Also, the game is compatible with Proton version 4.2-9, so you must force the use of this version in the configuration (version 5.0-6 does not work).
After making those changes, the game works perfectly
Works beautifully with "-changedir" applied, everything works on my desktop PC except for "hi res mode"
Use -changedir
launch option for the game, or else it will give you an error saying that you need to apply it.
Trying to enable "Hi Res Mode" does not do anything. The game will restart when you click "Ok", like it says it's going to need to do, and then when the game loads back up again, the option is still disabled. On my PC, "3D acceleration" works and is enabled by default. It is not on my laptop (see my previous report).
Add -changedir
to the game's launch options, similar to what is required for "Plants vs. Zombies". The game will display an error saying that the -changedir
launch option was expected, and will not start.
- Enabling 3D acceleration does not work, the game just reboots after accepting the changes in the settings. This could be a general bug with the game as it is quite old, however I have not tested on Windows
- Enabling "hi-res mode" causes the game to restart in the same way, as it requires and automatically enables 3D acceleration, meaning you cannot enable this option. The game will restart in the same way.
The good news is, these features aren't required, and every other setting works (custom cursor, custom radical, etc). Having these options off does not take away from the game whatsoever.

Enabling the -changedir settings, the game works perfectly

-changedir to launch options and then it runs flawlessly

Adding launch parameter "-changedir" made it run perfectly.

Works fine, full screen, had to add the -changedir to launch parameters as mentioned in previous comments

Use -changedir in launch options to fix changedir error.

just after launching the game, a window pops up "title: fatal error. Invalid command line parameter: -changedir /or other tweaks/ "ok" button"

As mentioned: add "-changedir" to the settings or the game will complain that you haven't done that. After that, everything's perfectly playable.

Launcher option : -changedir

add -changedir to game launcher

add -changedir to game launcher, note: it also happened under windows

Fatal Error / Unable to extract game executable.

Dialog appears: "Fatal Error - Invalid command line parameter: -changedir"

FATAL ERROR 'Invalid command line parameters -changedir' on start. Completely Stable after adding '-changedir' in Steam launch options.
