Aside from the awful launcher, the game runs nicely. The performance is very nice and the battery lasts 6+ hours.
TDP at 10W
Launcher only works with touch screen, an hassle if you have the Steam Deck on the dock
When waking up from the sleep, the in-game controls would ocasionally not work. Steam deck responded fine but the character did not move.
Toggled the "Disable Frame Limit" to fix a major slowdown in the X-2 experience screen
"Disable frame limit" for X-2 and you'll have a great time. Save before putting the console to sleep, just in case.

Using the left control stick freezes the game at times. Hard crash, had to force quit.
This game is a buggy mess. I only made changes to the layout to add F keys to the back buttons of my deck.
That said, continual freezing...the game even autosaved a frozen crash state. Using the left control stick to move caused a hard lock frozen game several times. My recommendation is to disable it, and use the D pad for movement.
The game does work well at times. I made it through Kilika Temple...only to freeze up when the game tried autosaving during the scene change. But the game is not at all stable, and it's a toss up as to whether it will continue or hard crash.
This game as of the latest update from Steam is not what I would call playable. Very hit or miss.

TDP Limit:10, GPU Clock: 1200
Disabling frame limit, lowering TDP, and GPU fixed the EXP screen slowdown and delay for me in FFX.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;d3d11=n,b" %command%
UnX 0.9.1.9 + Reshade 6.2.0
TDP 10
Game occasionally crashed on launch due to UnX/Reshade not responding.
UnX can be unstable on Steam Deck and older versions have been recommended. Copying the latest Reshade (as d3d11.dll) and the latest UnX to the game folder, then editing dxgi.ini to point to d3d11.dll for Reshade and adding the launch option worked better for me, though.
Forced proton experimental, launch menu is touch based only. Graphics set to high and no crashes. No slowdown at exp screen either.

I'm playing the X-2 (X HD I played it on my desktop) After finishing a battle you get an experience screen and sometimes takes 10-15 seconds to being able to advance. Game slows down a lot.
Not much to report, I'm playing the X-2 version on the SD and runs pretty much flawlessly out of the box with the exception of the experience screen that loads back into the game very slowly.

Proton Experimental seems to solve common user issues with instability. Haven't had a single crash or problem with gameplay and cutscenes throughout playing on the Deck. I just use the touchscreen for the game launcher. You will have to change the resolution here as it's set to the smallest by default and will crash. I can't attest to X-2's experience as I haven't played it yet. One small issue is that you can't access the in-game system menu with the bonus features using a controller (Need the Esc key.) This is also a problem playing on PC anyhow. You can probably fix this by remapping buttons but I didn't find it was something I needed while playing. Overall a good experience I'd say.
First startup with settings set to high on default proton game crashed at intro. Switching to Proton GE 8.25 fixed this.

Crashy game and it starts in Japanese. Set Proton to 7.0.6 and change language in the initial launcher in the settings, first window.
Intro crashed with high settings. Start with low and then pass to high
10 W TDP
Game started in Japanese. You need to set it to the language you want into the main menu.
Crashes on intro with high settings (this with dafault proton maybe 7.0.6 fixes this). With UnX mod (compatibility version) it crashes quite much. It's normal for the first few boots to crash but after it should stabilize but I couldn't really get past the cutscene when Yuna almost falls the stairs in Besaid Temple. Set Proton on 7.0.6 and you should be good. Also if you use UnX mod use the following launch: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n, b" %command%
Frustrating experience for me but don't give up and try what I wrote here.

The game is too crash-happy. The timing is inconsistent and ranges between 10-60 minute intervals.
Installed UnX and made changes such as game language, game speed, etc.
Changed the back grip buttons to bind a couple of the built-in game boosters to the appropriate Function keys on the keyboard.
TDP limit to 9w and GPU clock locked at 1000.
Had to install the modified and controller friendly Launcher+. This fixed a couple of key issues I had with the default launcher.
The game uses windowed borderless, although this can be changed via UnX, which I did.
Crashes frequently regardless of Proton version.
Default launcher sometimes launches X-2 when I select X, which leads to a white screen followed by crash. It is inconsistent when it happens, somewhat rare even, but requires a full restart of the process to correct.
I am unsure if the issue is UnX or the game itself. However, UnX has some mandatory QoL improvements that make playing the game without it not even worth considering.

X-2 specifically would previously would crash ridiculously often on any Proton version. Proton Experimental updated on Nov. 8th to fix this issue, no longer needs any special adjustment to run as long as Experimental is forced.

Only one crash after switching to older Proton
On default version of Proton suggested the game crashes as soon as you finish the intro fight or the fight just afterwards.
Switching to older Proton version made the game way more stable, but did crash every so often (after more than an hr of play).
Only tested X-2 on Steam Deck

Only worked after downgrading proton to an older version, been stable after playing for an hour or so, if not it crashes at the starting fight or just after.
Only tested on X-2.

FFX runs perfectly on steam deck with default settings. FFX-2 can't get through first mission. Crashes when battles start.
FFX X-2 only
I put in over 100 hours on FFX using all default settings without any stability issues. Only issue was Lulu's overdrive which was a minor inconvience at most. FFX-2 on the other hand was completely unplayable. Changing proton versions helped a bit but not enouph to make it playable.
Initial launch was in Japanese and I had to experiment in the launch window to set it to English
FFX-2 is unstable. Cant get past the intro Both FFX&FFX2 crash on launch while docked

FFX-2 needs finagling to get to start. If you manage it, it will crash often (as it does via proton on computer).
FFX-2 crashes often, if you can get it to start at all.
03rd May 2023. Game was able to install, launch and start with no issue. Not much tinkering done, all as default! Except FPS at 30, the game is locked at 30 anyways. FMVs plays fine, audio is all good! Launch window you will need to use the touch screen to navigate, these are the changes I made under Settings: Resolution: 1280 x 800, Screen Mode: Full Screen Mode, Video Quality Setting: High. Buttons also reflect as per Steam Deck which is nice especially when doing Auron's Overdrive, etc.
Contrary to all the positive reviews here, not even ffx was running. The initial menu was loading fine, but crashed afterwards
Tried installing MVC2015
Not sure, what changed - but for me absolutely unplayable. Pitty as it seemed to be doing well before.
Lower resolution + FSR can make a difference on battery while looking just as good.
FFX worked with any version of proton but X-2 only worked with 6.3-8 and no launch options. Before that change X-2 would crash on boot. It's fully playable at this version.
Todo funciona, pero has de jugar con varias versiones (Everything works, but you have to play with several versions)
FFX funciona con Proton 7.0-5 (FFX works with Proton 7.0-5) FFX Eternal Calm funciona con Proton 6.3-8 (FFX works with Proton 6.3-8) FFX-2 funciona con Proton 4.2-9 (FFX works with Proton 4.2-9) FFX-2 Last Mission funciona con Proton 4.2-9 (FFX works with Proton 4.2-9)
The game collection boots to a launcher from which you select FFX, FFX-2, or other bonus content. This screen does not respond to the default Steam Deck controls, but can be easily navigated using the touch screen.
I did not perform extensive play testing, but both main games (FFX & FFX-2) launch perfectly and perform well during their initial gameplay. I made 2 personal preference changes to the Settings in the main game launcher:
- Resolution changed: 1280x800
- Video Quality Setting: High
The launcher doesn't use the controller to navigate, you have to use the touch screen.
most reviews are for FFX and not X-2, X-2 seems to struggle to even get past boot with varying configs on GE and default
Attempted both GE and standard installs
FFX works fine, X-2 crashes frequently
Drop TDP to 5w and GPU clock to 700.
Must use touch screen to get pass the initial boot screen, and it's ideal to check your resolution settings before any session as it has a habbit of switching to the smallest resolution automatically.
Game is hardcapped at 30fps, which makes it ideal for saving batteries and why you can so aggressively limit the deck's power to run this while still maintaining full quality.
Have not tested X-2. Only tested on X.
Had to use a mouse to select the game on the launcher
Setting the Steam Deck to 30 fps mode causes significantly increased loading before/after encounters.
