Works OOTB
Works great!

I moved my psp save over to this version of the game using this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2920814082 post so I only spent about 30 hours on the game, but in that time I didn't run into any issues with the it. Game wouldn't display in the decks native resolution but that is consistent with the other persona games and wasn't a deal breaker for me. Otherwise performance was flawless and while I didn't make any adjustments to tdp I was still able to get about 5-6 hours in a play session according to the deck. If you're just wanting to play P3P with some minor graphical enhancements than this is an excellent way to do so.

TDP to 6, GPU to 1000
Runs perfectly and the deck can be under locked to save on battery life at no performance loss.

Set TDP to 4 to get ~5 hours of battery life. If you limit your framerate to 30, you can get over 6 hours.
Game crashes when connected to an external display for some reason. No issues on the Deck's internal display.

Aside from Devuno being ass, this is a servicable way to enjoy Persona 3 on steam until the remake drops. Mods make things better though.
Used mods via Reloaded-II, works for all 64 bit Persona titles: https://gamebanana.com/tuts/15409
Set TDP to 4
Mods were used, Reloaded-II works on SteamOS with protontricks after installing it's pre-requsites to the Persona 3 Portable prefix. Worth noting that the default proton can handle the "Cutscenes Restored" mod without any further tinkering.
put the TDP to 4w
as others mentioned you do want to put some power limits and adjust settings a bit but it will work just fine out of the box, I had a occasional bug where default controller suddenly stopped working and had to rebind the deck's buttons to keyboard input (happened twice through the game (just simply resetting the game fixed it))
The launch optins are only there to enable mod loading. Using mods enhance the experience. Without mods it runs perfectly out of the box
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
None of the guides on how to get Reloaded II working on Linux worked for me so I created my own guide: https://medium.com/@stefan.foldesi/how-to-make-the-reloaded-ii-mod-loader-work-on-linux-pc-and-the-steam-deck-aed9fc2fac35
The gist of it is knowing how to run any exe using Proton - you need to know the game's APP ID and the Proton executable location. Then you just download and install dependencies, download and run Reloaded II, deploy the ASI loader and modify launch options.
Worked like a charm, except for a very specific endgame dialogue.
Runs perfectly!
Just a note, if you have a web app running in the background through big picture and switch to it, sometimes your mouse will be stuck over a UI element in game so it can mess with the menus. Just tap and swipe your mouse away on the touch screen and the issue is gone. Mainly happens to me when running discord in the background.
Works just like on windows
Mods are completely usable with a bit of extra work
- TDP Limit = 4W
- Manual GPU Clock = 800
- Framerate Limit = 48 FPS
In-game graphics at High (default) but rendering scale set to 100%
The game works very well and isn't demanding on power so it's perfectly fine to lower things aggressively to save batteries. You don't even have to lower the graphics preset and it'll still run for quite a while.
You can even set things high and still have a good time running the game through Remote Play.
Game seems to use more power then needed, Using 5W has been a flawless 60 fps so far and even runs the game at 1080p120 in Docked with small drops to 100 with the 5W.
Settings set to all High and Resolution Scale reduced to 100% as 200% was weirdly the default.
TDP to 5W
Game runs very well. Uses more power then needed. Runs at 1080p120 in docked. Recommend changing Resolution Scale to 100% as 200% is default.
I switched to Proton GE right away (just because that's what i use for Persona 4) and it runs flawlessly. I've experienced no problems at all.
Works out of the box
Everything works as expected, including the Dualshock4 detection
Persona 3 Portable is still a great game that holds up exceptionally well in 2023. Runs a bit hot on Deck, but tweaks help it run quieter.
P3P strangely runs very hot on Deck for a PSP port. Set it to a TDP of 6 and GPU Clock Speed Frequency of 1000 to optimize battery from 2.5h to 4-4.5h.
Works with default proton without issues.
Seems to work fine out of the box
Ran using default proton version with no modifications or launch options
Game rans stable for 2 hours without any issues at 120fps at highest settings at 2160p. Fully expect game will run flawlessly on the steamdeck at reduced resolution.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Game would not launch for me with stock proton without adding the PROTON_USE_WINED3D flag.
