Running proton 4.11-7 still requires disabling Esync and Fsync to correct cut-scene issues ( PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% ). Prior to Esync / Fsync being disabled experienced stuttering and audio video sync issues during opening and subsequent cut-scenes. Once launch options applied, game runs smoothly with locked 60fps at 1440p.
Aside from stability issues, the graphical rendering problems are annoying and the performance is not where it should be.
Textures are grainy and slow to pop in in certain areas
Able to run 1080p at an average of 30fps. While this title isnt well optimized, this seems fairly poor on a GTX1080ti

Like FFXVI, FF7R has frequent dips in framerates (Upwards of 20fps) which cause havok with frame pacing and make the game feel stuttery. The same thing has been reported by windows users. Just like FFXVI if you disable DXR the framerate dips occur far less frequently if at all and the game runs smooth. Unlike FFXVI this game also requires you to specify a DX12 feature set or else it will fail to launch indicating that DX12 is not installed, so both launch options must be set. From other reports it appears that this game is not working on Nvidia GPUs at this time, but I no longer have any Nvidia GPUs to test with. My 7XXX series GPU runs the game at 1800P high settings with a locked 90FPS.

OOTB game performance is mixed with a fair amount of microstuttering and popin. The above launch options remove the microstuttering entirely. If using a distro like Bazzite or ChimeraOS disable the games internal SteamDeck profile to reduce popin from reduced LOD settings built into the game. Overall Ive got 20hrs into the game and have zero complaints!
After switching to GE-Proton9 game ran flawlessly at ~120fps with framegen ON and all settings set to highest value at 2160p.
Using Valve Proton9, the game would occasionally lock up for a few seconds randomly. Runs perfectly under GE-Proton9
Nvidia User. Game starts, but crashes to desktop after intro videos.
gamemoderun PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
This title has worked on AMD GPUs for some time, but not Nvidia. As of the 515.43.04 Nvidia driver update this title now launches and runs!
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
For Nvidia users to run this title update to the Nvidia 515.43.04 driver released 5/11. Prior to this driver the title will crash after intro videos.
gamemoderun ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Disable any NVAPI launch options (No DLSS for the time being). Enabling NVAPI still results in game softlocking on load after intro videos. Disabling NVAPI and using FSR works as expected. Running game with both vkBasalt / Shaders and Mangohud works without issue.
Game works as expected with no tweaks on latest version of SteamPlay.
Slightly lower than expected FPS, but holding 60FPS with only minor slowdowns when new area loads
Ran without issue. Locked 60fps except for stutter when loading a new area at 1440p on RX5700XT. Controller worked out of the box.
Ran using default proton version with no modifications or launch options
Game rans stable for 2 hours without any issues at 120fps at highest settings at 2160p. Fully expect game will run flawlessly on the steamdeck at reduced resolution.
Plays well on steam deck at 1080p (External Display) when turning some settings down. Runs flawlessly on gaming PC at 90fps 2160p and vkBasalt shaders applied. Far superior to the PS3 version I have emulated in the past on both high end hardware and the steamdeck.

Installed d3dcompile_47 to correct missing textures.
Game runs amazingly well with above tweaks on Nvidia Hardware. Regardless of GPU MFG you will want to install d3dcompiler_47 using protontricks to correct missing textures, although if you have never played the game outside linux you may not realize they are missing (Not essential to gameplay).
After applying the media foundation workaround for Wine ( https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install ) game worked as expected with 120 average FPS at 1440p. As others have reported, initial level loads encounter FPS hitching until level is fully loaded after which game runs smoothly.
