Works flawlessly after renaming "AoK HD.exe" to "Launcher.exe" within the game files. Tested across several hours, multiplayer functions with zero hiccups even with Windows players. Both as host and player. Would be platform if you didn't need to rename the .exe
Works perfectly with Proton, more stable than the native version
I was even able to transfer my save game from Linux to Windows by copying the relevant folder. I had to use proton because the Linux version crashes to desktop if my controller is connected...
Works flawlessly out of the box, even with an (Xbox) controller. Don't use the native version because support has been dropped for it - no multiplayer without proton.
Launcher runs and seems to function fine. Game will refuse to run in DX11 mode due to an unsupported graphics card / driver. DX12 mode will silently exit the program. Unusable with proton in this hardware configuration.
Alt-Tabbing will make the entire window black and it can't be interacted with, even to close the game. Had to killall -9 darkcrusade.exe to use my system
When playing multiplayer skirmish with my friend if I played as the Orks I would instantly resign when the game starts. Tested multiplayer with (so far) the Necrons and Eldar and it worked fine. Orks still work in single-player skirmish.
I was able to unlock the four original races in multiplayer by owning the GOTY version. I had it installed (with proton), didn't need to do anything else and even that step may not be needed due to the game now having steam integration.
Works flawlessly with proton while as the native version is borked
Occasionally the audio will temporarily mute, normally when something "big" happens like a large artillery strike or something.
Native version is borked on my PC, crashes immediately after the launcher. The proton version just works.
Works better than native for single player but multiplayer doesn't work
When you play multiplayer (both last stand and skirmish) you will be defeated and the game will crash to desktop after just a few minutes. Likely some sort of desynchronisation issue with proton. Unplayable in multiplayer which defeats the whole point of running the game with proton - except that the feral port literally doesn't work on my PC (:
