Works pretty great
After about two hours into a play session the graphics degraded (sudden resolution drop) and the frame rate tanked. Not sure if this is a problem with Proton or with the game. It's easily fixed by restarting the game, so no big problem.

I managed to get EAX audio by installing the programs with protontricks
high fps desyncs the audio in cutscenes
https://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=225900 use this to enable EAX again for nice realistic audio. https://www.indirectsound.com/registryIssues.html follow these steps using protonticks and modify all 4 reg keys as well. Youll have to modify the alsoft.ini to your liking or use one from a different game like SH2: Enhanced Edition.

Installed the Widescreen fix (here: https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=62030 )
Game runs great. However, it requires a bit of tinkering. I used GEProton to install the GoG version out of safety to run the game's FMV, but I think any Proton version will work. However, the game runs at a 4:3 aspect ratio out of the box, and it can only be fixed by installing the mod listed above and editing the associated ini file (don't forget to change the lines that appear in red as well). Secondly, the game does appear to have gamepad support, but never switches to it under Steam Input. There are community layouts available that work great. Do note that the menus need to be navigated with mouse and keyboard, so any combination of right stick + triggers (for docked play) or trackpads needs to be turned on with mouse inputs. Finally, fog needs to be turned off in the settings as it renders incorrectly ingame.
Once all of that is sorted (a bit of a hassle, but par for the course with older games), the games runs beautifully at 90fps, native 720 or 800p, and consumes very little power ensuring 5h+ battery life.
DXVK_FRAME RATE=60 %command%
Патч на вайд скрин

There's a few problems I came across.
Problem: Bright light smudging across the screen making the game unplayable Solution: Use GE-Proton8-13
Problem: Extreme amounts of fog Solution: in game_root/Hardware.ini set ForceVSFog=1 InvertFogRange=0
Problem: No widescreen option Solution: use nemesis widescreen patch from pcgamingwiki, place contents in game_root, set resolution in pop.ini. If fog issue recurs turn fog off and on again in the in-game options
Problem: No gamepad Solution: Just requires manual input of gamepad controls
LS: Move RS: Camera X: Attack A: Jump Y: Dagger B: Cancel LT: Rewind RT: Special Action LB: Alternate View RB: First-Person RS: Reset Camera

Game requires a bit of tinkering. I'll try to write down everything here.
For both the Deck controller and DualShock, use the most upvoted community layouts - they work quite well as the game doesn't have native gamepad support. Menus require using the trackpad for mouse, but otherwise work fine.
To use widescreen and 16:10 properly, download the Resolution Fix from https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=62030 (thanks to the other comment for the link). Extract it into the game folder, open "pop.ini", change resolution height to 800 (for 1280x800), HUD_posX to the one indicated for 16:10, and that should be it. You can always check PCGW for other tweaks, like getting rid of the intro videos. If you connect an external display and have problems booting the game, either try forcing the display resolution from Game Properties on Steam, or edit "pop.ini", as with the afformentioned changes, game will force a 16:10 ratio.
After tinkering, the game ran 90 fps on OLED without any issues, doesn't use much TDP (10w max maybe), battery lasts quite a lot. Overall, quite enjoyable experience.

strangle 60 %command%
Running the game above 60 fps causes in-game cinematic audio drift, issues with physics, and makes counter-attacking incredibly hard. Make sure to use some sort of FPS limiter, libstrangle worked for me.

O jogo roda perfeitamente no Steam Deck do inicio ao fim. Não é necessario fazer quaisquer alterações.

Perfeito

Amazing experience on linux!!! Even better than windows...
Just runs flawlessly....I recommend using vkbasalt and reshade for an ever better experience...

Disabled Haptic Joystick Sensitivity to 175%
TDP to 4w GPU to 400 50FPS Stretched Scaling FSR 5
Perfectly playable out of the box but better battery life with few tinkering

Works great, no tinkering required. Only changed proton version

locked it at 50fps, i found it to be the sweet spot for this game

somehow the game runs better than on my windows desktop, you simply need to use any of the viable community control configs
i made the config
by default gamepad controls are not mapped, you have to map them manually in the options menu
on my desktop PC some kind of bug causes the game to be super foggy, on the steam deck, it runs almost perfectly out of the box, i downloaded the widescreen fix on PCGamingWiki, and that one worked flawlessly
for controls you have two options, download any of the viable community configs that use keyboard mappings on the deck controls, or, setup the deck controls as a gamepad and map the gamepad commands ingame, because for some reason, while the game perfectly recognizes a gamepad, NONE of the gamepad actions are mapped
that being said the game accepts keyboard and gamepad commands at the same time so if you download my config: "PS2 Controls with Analogs + Extras" you only need to remap gamepad movement and camera control ingame, enjoy analog movement
Works fine. With the widescreen patch it even renders on 3440x1440! Can't use some gamepad buttons.
The fullscreen was not exclusive so my xfce-panel was still visible over the game window. Needed to manually hide it.
Could not use some controller buttons - triggers, D-Pad and the middle ones Start and Select or whatever they are called
To use the widescreen patch - extract it into the game folder (inside steamapps/common) and edit the pop.ini to your desired resolution. I also neede to change HUD_posX_auto = 1
to HUD_posX_auto = 0
otherwise I couldn't see the HUD and tutorials.
Gamepad is in default not mapped at all. In order to map it in the settings - you need to double click (until the SFX plays and a little _ appears in the button setting) and then you input your gamepad input. I couldn't use triggers, D-Pad and the middle ones whatever they're called... Start and Select or something. I heard there's a fix for that but honestly I don't really need them I have two things unmapped - toggle walking speed and center camera - and do just great without them.
In Hardware.ini file change CanStretchRect=1 to CanStretchRect=0. I'm not 100% sure if this is necessary, but I think it helps with the correct display of the interface after install resolution fix. In my case, it was necessary for modification that replace audio and subtitles with Polish.
60 FPS, 4 TDP, 300 GPU
I downloaded Resolution Fix from this site: https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=62030 There are other versions of this mod, but they do not work. This version seems to be newer and work seamlessly :) All you have to do is change the third line in pop.ini from "Height = 720" to "Height = 800". Without this change, I think the resolution will be at 720p. I haven't checked without this change. In addition, I edited the Hardware.ini file by changing CanStretchRect=1 to CanStretchRect=0. I'm not 100% sure if this is necessary, but I think it helps with the correct display of the interface. In my case, it was needed for modification replacing audio and subtitles with Polish.
There are mouse and keyboard prompts, but otherwise the controller works quite ok.
DO NOT RUN THE GAME IN DESKTOP MODE! THIS DAMAGES THE GAME AND YOU CAN'T PLAY IT WITHOUT REINSTALLATION! In order to reinstall it, you need to uninstall it from Steam, and then manually delete all its remaining files from the "steamapps/common/Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" folder, and then the full folder "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/comptdata/13600". If someone would like to install this Polish modification, do not replace the Hardware.ini from it and only make sure "CanStretchRect=0" and "AlphaPalette=1". Leave the rest unchanged, otherwise it will breake the game.

some audio is missing

Does not work out of the box, get the above error. Running in safe mode (which it offers) results in teh same error message.
- Set walk button [Shift] to R4.
- Lowered Right Joystick "Joystick Mouse" sensitivity to 90.
- Turned off Steam haptics for Left Joystick.
Game is locked to 4:3 aspect ratio. No options for widescreen.
After placing Steam Deck in sleep mode, controls will become largely unresponsive until the game is rebooted.
Most players will experience no issues with the game, although it is not a perfect out-of-the-box experience.
- All control inputs will display on-screen as keyboard commands.
- Some control input modification may be necessary.
- Game defaults to 800x600 resolution and should be adjusted to 1024x768.
- Placing Steam Deck into sleep mode will lose some controller bindings until the game is rebooted. Save points come often within the game.
If I put Steamdeck into Sleep Mode and resume afterwards, then i could not attack normally. The Game run fine but the only way to attack was to go to menu and resume game. Then the Prince would perform an attack. So better exit the Game if u stop playing
It works perfectly fine except for the fact I couldn't get my controller working.
Despite trying everything suggested here, Steam and elsewhere, I couldn't get my XBOX ONE controller to work. kb+m is useable here, but the lack of a controller in a game like this really kills it for me.
Changed controls in ingame menu
Stuck at lower resolution
Resolution needs to be changed in the menu. Max resolution is 1024x768. Does not run full screen. Set gamepad as normal control layout. Use trackpad to change controls in the menu and use this guide to set them.
https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia:_The_Sands_of_Time/Controls
Works perfectly otherwise.
Generally this game plays really nice with all kinds of devices. The graphics are a bit blurry but that's to be expected.
The game generally needs some button remapping. See what works best for you and what is most comfortable.
Some slowdown when you do an 'action' for the first time. Odd, and not sure if it was intended.
I've played this game for hours on Windows as a kid, and it generally runs the same. You might get a short launcher popup, but don't let that scare you. The game works just fine. Absolutely no problems encountered so far but there might be some allong the way. Will report on this again if it stops working.

(GOG version) Works well
Played GOG version with Proton 7.0-1.
i installed the vulkan mesa drivers for my intell hd4000 on linux mint
i made the game work on linux mint by installing all the dependencies that are listed in proton ge, like wine nependencies and the vulkan mesa drivers. the last one is the must important.
the game just wont open
Yes, once Fog is turned off, everything worked flawlessly.

Widescreen fix just works in newer proton, especially GE. Just unpack the archive and edit the pop.ini
6.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Widescreen fix from ps2wide
Game does not react to PS4 controller or Logitech F710 in any way, xinput or dinput doesn't matter. Could not assign any button to them. Steam overlay does not seem to work either.
Only works on 3.7 with problematic gamepad controls.
Trying to play this with either Xinput or any form of steam input enabled doesn't work properly. I've tried to set the controls but it would always default to Z axis +/-, making it impossible to map anything. This happens even after having the controller calibrated and trying a bunch of other fixes, like trying to use XinputPlus.
DirectInput works, but there's a annoying issue where you can't run diagonally, meaning that if you e.g push your left stick to the top right, you will only be able to walk.
It is possible to use UniWS patch like another user here showed, but I would recommend just starting the patch's exe with Wine, it's much quicker and less troublesome than going through the process of moving folders and starting it with Proton.
If you don't wanna use Wine directly (for some reason) and would rather use Proton, then add the patch's exe as a non-steam game and launch it that way.
Fog is broken for Nvidia drivers. Disable fog in the settings menu.
Fog must be disabled
Aside from the mentioned odd fog effect everything worked fine.
I noticed that the fog effect made the whole screen primarily gray, and I was barely able to see anything. however after disabling fog in the advanced graphical settings everything started working just fine.
Use Proton 4.11, as it doesn't launch with newer versions. The game works from start to finish without major issues.
Shadows don't render properly
Use the UniWS patch (here's a direct download link) to play the game at a custom resolution. There's probably better ways, but this is how I did it:
(Note: This will make the game appear cropped at the top and bottom, as it's not adjusting the FOV. At 16:9, everything important should still be in frame)
Move the "Prince of Persia The Sands of Time" folder from "steamapps/common" somewhere into "steamapps/compatdata/13600/pfx/drive_c"
Create a new "Prince of Persia The Sands of Time" folder inside "steamapps/common", and put the extracted UniWS files inside
Make a copy of the "uniws.exe" file inside the same directory, name one "POP.EXE", and the other "PrinceOfPersia.EXE"
Launch the game from Steam, and the patcher will run
Select "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" from the dropdown at the top, navigate to where you moved the game to in step 1, enter your desired resolution at the bottom, and hit the Patch button in the bottom right
Delete these files and move the original folder back into place (from step 1)
Edit the Hardware.ini file and change "CanStretchRect=1" to "CanStretchRect=0" (to fix UI stretching) (If you have issues with fog, also change "InvertFogRange=0" to 1 (wasn't necessary in my case))
Start the game and change your resolution
Works after a couple tweaks
Audio desyncs slightly during cutscenes
Shadows appear as black squares
Game will not launch on Proton 5.0+. Needed to downgrade to 4.11-13 to get it to run. Also disabled fog due to being on nvidia hardware, as per previous suggestions. Shadows completely borked; investigating fixes.
Pressing launch it tries to do so, but kills the process before any changes is seen
Works out of the box!
Had to disable fog settings in Hardware.ini
