Everything works out of the box Going back and forth from windowed to full-screen is seamless All videos work Used Proton 5.0-10
Everything works perfectly, including videos and using an Xbox controller
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Text is way to spaced out and big. It goes off screen and is pretty much unplayable
Sometimes it would not load the title screen, sometimes I can get in game. It's weird
Movies don't work on most Proton versions. I tried and GE-Proton7-9
and it worked!... But it was unwatchable. The resolution was messed up, like it was stretched beyond my monitor. Colors looked really weird.
Movies are completely borked.
First movie shows up at the end of the prologue, right before where you have to choose a route. I'd say it's definitely worth watching this one, so I suggest just searching up the OP on YouTube or something. The rest of the movies are at the end of each full routes.
Need lavfilters
and quartz
to play movies. Just run the following two commands:
protontricks 627350 lavfilters
protontricks 627350 quartz
Movies don't work out of the box. I ran protontricks 1680000 wmp9
and I could actually get the movies to run... with the movie rapidly flashing white.
It's not watchable in that state, and I think it'd be better to just skip it.
You can actually find the movie files directly in:
Rewrite+/mov/op00.wmv
Rewrite+/mov/ED00.wmv
and watch them there anyways (or just use YouTube).
I've tried Proton-GE 5.11, 6.21, and 7.0 with both wmp11
and wmp9
, along with Regular Proton 5.0-10 with only wmp11
. I can't seem to get the movie to play with any of those configurations...
No movies. Otherwise, perfect
I tried many different versions of proton (7, 6, 4, 7-GE) and none of them would work with movies. I even tried protontricks 1540220 wmp11
on all of them, but no luck
Last movie doesn't work. Not a big deal as it's just a black screen with credits. Nothing interesting is missed
I'd occasionally crash on certain lines of dialogue. I don't remember where, but you can bypass them by using the skip button
Movies don't work. Unfortunately, there are quite a few short clips that play that are pretty interesting. But not a dealbreaker.
I was able to get the movie to work by running protontricks 345620 lavfilters
, but the game would crash immediately after the movie finished. I ran protontricks 345620 quartz
and the game wouldn't crash after, but there would be only sound...
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
There were times when characters were animated out of the screen, only to partially reappear. There are still black squares appearing in many animations. A lot of flickering on animations and menus
A lot of animations tend to get quite laggy. It would feel like playing in 5fps in some scenes
Movies are completely borked
I don't think it's worth getting it to work on Linux. Too much flickering, black boxes, and choppy animations to enjoy. Plus, lack of movies ðŸ˜
I've had a few crashes in The Cocoon of Caprice. Once near the beginning (I don't exactly remember), and one at the very end of Cocoon of Caprice 15. You can bypass it by using the skip button I guess.
There's probably more in the middle, but I switched to Windows already :(
Movies don't work...

I gave up on trying to get movies to work afterwards :(
I almost want to say no to "Would a typical gamer enjoy playing this game on Linux as you've played it?". The few crashes are really annoying, especially on very intense scenes. Movies not working aren't a big deal breaker for the most part, except for the end of The Cocoon of Caprice. The last movie is pretty important.
I think you're better off playing on Windows if possible. But most of the game is pretty good
The movie at the end crashes the game
The movie isn't anything special. You're not missing out on much without it
Same as The Afterglow of Grisaia. Last movie doesn't work. Not a big deal as it's just a black screen with credits. Nothing interesting is missed
The movie at the end of chapter 3 doesn't work until getting LAVFilters by running the following:
protontricks 658620 lavfilters
Some fonts look badly spaced. To fix, all I had to do was to install the MS Gothic font.
On Ubuntu, it can come from a package called ttf-mscorefonts-installer
. On Fedora, I just followed the steps on this website
I've tried Proton Experimental
, and GE-Proton9-21
, and they all have bugs such as title screen background breaking, or videos not working. Surprisingly, GE-Proton9-4
works instead of GE-Proton9-21
. I didn't try any other versions.
Also, I didn't need to install xact
or need any wine configurations or launch options as stated in the other reports. Everything works perfectly out of the box.
