This game is nearly 10 years old yet fails to run in Steam Play due to a missing executable.
.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/BIT.TRIP RUNNER/ appears to be empty even though Steam successfully verifies local files?
Yep, still borked. No amount of tinkering (changing Proton version or launch options) could get the game to boot up to its main menu.
Guilty Gear XX AC+R seems to work just fine though if you're looking for an old ArcSys fighter on Linux.
Sorry BB fans, still borked. No amount of tweaking ever gets to the main menu.
Game runs at least but not at a good enough performance to make it worthwhile, especially if you hope to compete.
Without the launch option I get a "The UE4-EXF Game has crashed and will close" error.
Characters look heavily tan or sun burnt, some colors are inaccurate and hair does not render correctly (oh god Area what happened to you?).
When playing arcade mode, game slows down to at half speed or even a third based on my estimates of looking at the game clock.
The Windows version with Proton runs better overall than native Linux version, but might as well run it on Windows then.
Game did not load without Wind D3D launch flag
Game is a bit choppy upon initialization but smooths out over time
Cut scenes did not appear to load (other than intro video). To compare this, in the Windows version there's an image of Ajna looking down from the prison to show how high up they are. No such image loads when using Proton on the Windows version, and instead only the dialogue loads overlaying the normal gameplay sprites and background.
The native windows version is borked on my machine. In an early battle the game crashes. The exact same battle, no matter what my settings are. And worst: my machine becomes unresponsive and I have to do a hard restart.
Given the whole fiasco with Lab Zero it is unlikely this game will ever be updated further to fix these issues.
Game would not start without this workaround
Occasional graphical glitches with rendering certain textures like a character's glasses. Not sure if this is specific to Linux, the PC port, or just my computer. They were only minor and occasional, did not affect game play.
Had to do the workaround with changing the name of the game executable to the launcher as described in other reports, else the game would not boot up.
After that the game worked great, just beat the game in fact.
Game would not start without workaround
I found that rolling the Proton version back to 4.11-13 did not require the Wine D3D workaround
Can play offline and might be able to play with friends online, but probably not very reliable for something like Ranked Mode online
Got "DX11 level 10 required to play" error without launch flag
Audio issues were intermittent. Some parts of the game there is no issue whatsoever (e.g. character select, practice mode). There might be issues when playing movies in the gallery with sound but need to look into further.
Characters look unusually tan or sunburnt.
Playing offline I could get nearly 60 FPS with Low graphics settings at 1080p. Played some quick matches online and some were without issue and some resulted in the game crashing or disconnecting the match. Could not get above 40 FPS on the sample of online matches I played.
Game crashed occasionally while playing online matches.
Sometimes the game would load but very bright colors like cyan would flash at the main menu, depending on version of Proton.
Pleasantly surprised that my saved stats and rank from my Windows 7 machine were synced to this Linux installation.
