Stuck on a black screen unless PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% is used as a launch parameter
Having downloaded the script from https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab I unzipped it and ran WINEPREFIX=/home/william/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/330020/pfx ./mf-install.sh from script's folder.
Downloaded script from https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install and installed by unzipping it and running the following from the script's folder: WINEPREFIX=/home/william/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/814530/pfx ./mf-install.sh
Obviously you'll need to use your own Steam install path.
I was able to play with no issues for a little under 3 hours before dying. When I reloaded my auto-save I had no ground textures: character models were still visible, floating above the sea.
Reloading, relaunching, loading other saves, creating a new game, reinstalling, etc hasn't done anything to solve the issue. I am very sad, because I had up until now been enjoying a perfect play experience.
Initially loading is very slow, the game seemed to have frozen. It did eventually load the main menu though.
Works perfectly with mf-install. Without mf-install it gets stuck on a white screen after selecting "new game".
Downloaded the script from https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install - unzipped and ran the following from the resulting folder:
WINEPREFIX=/home/william/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/683320/pfx ./mf-install.sh
Obviously you'll want to replace the path with your own Steam install path.
Completed opening tutorial and a few missions, everything works perfectly so far.
Occasional lag when zooming out of stations to see the full galaxy, but I think that's just a performance issue and not related to Proton. Otherwise runs perfectly out of the box - 24 hours logged now without issue.
Holding control to change the key bindings doesn't work, but I was able to play the game using an AZERTY keyboard by changing my default keyboard layout to US.
Works perfectly. I did have one crash but in over 10 hours of play I've not been able to reproduce it, and I'm not convinced it was Proton-related. I did need to install python3 to get the game running, but this is a dependency rather than a tweak (it's worth running Steam from a console so you can check the logs for missing dependencies).
On the first launch I had a freeze after the introduction cinematic, but since then I launch twice and played for it bit, and everything seems to be working.
Crash due to a garbage collection issue on the first launch, but since then I've not had any issues: manage to play a full albeit very unsuccessful run.
The game runs fine (menu, sound, video, input) but crashes at random intervals.
The game crashes at random moments, though I have been able to play for 10-15 minutes at times without issue. A dump can be found if Steam is run from console. Wine D3D does not help.
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 64-bit code (0x0000000140359268).
I've played for a half-hour, so have tested multiple missions, cinematics, music, etc. Everything works perfectly without configuration.
