It runs well and avoids the audio issues with the native version that they never fixed.
Runs at 100 FPS for the most part (monitor is 100 hz), but it occasionally dips to the 50s or even 40s when loading action shots or switching locations. It appears to be IO related, but I'm using an NVME drive. Reports suggest this happens on Windows too.
It runs on AMD, but it's not pleasant
When I had an Nvidia card, the DX12 version ran well but the DX11 version was a stutterfest. With my AMD card, both are stutterfests, and DX12 has major frametime freezes.
It's weird that it's an AMD game, but I have so many problems playing with an AMD GPU. On Nvidia, I was able to get a smooth experience.
Works well and is stable
Audio doesn't work with Pipewire. I had to go back to Pulseaudio
Other than the audio not working with Pipewire, it's perfect.
Won't launch
It pops up a terminal window that says "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'dxvk::DxvkError'
Aside from the typical initial shader stuttering from DXVK, the gameplay is smooth. There is a bit of a performance hit, but not much. Also, DLSS does work with PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% and dxgi.nvapiHack = False placed in a dxvk.conf file in the game folder.
If you can ignore the frame drops, it's a good experience. I don't know if this is just an Nvidia driver thing.
As others have mentioned, there are major frame drops, sometimes complete freezing, when entering a new area. I thought this would improve after shader caching, but it seems to be consistent.
It isn't playable without modifying system configuration or playing offline.
Even with networking disabled or blocked in /etc/hosts, I still got a fatal error in the middle of the game, which caused me to lose progress.
It gives a fatal error at startup if you're connected to the Internet. As others have stated, adding:
0.0.0.0 see-siren.os.eidos.com
0.0.0.0 see-siren-prod.os.eidos.com
will allow you to start the game.
There are some performance issues, but they seem to be the same with Windows. Turn off vsync, use AMD FidelityFX FSR + DRS for a steady framerate.
With the current stable Proton, it crashes immediately. It's better on Experimental and performs even better with Proton GE.
gamemoderun %command%
Some framerate drops while web slinging. With Proton-GE, it's lessened
It won't start with Steam/Origin no matter what I try
I must be completely inept because I can't get the launcher to start no matter what trick I try. I tried every Proton version and GE version. I tried installing Origin manually, since it seems to be a problem with Origin not wanting to start. Nothing worked.
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command%
I had to use protontricks to install Origin, and then when I started the game, it prompted me to log in.
I previously had an AMD card and discovered that with an Nvidia Vulkan driver, there was some remnant of the AMD driver causing a launch error that affected all Origin and Ubisoft games. The workaround was to add VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command% to launch options.
I reported before that the players were missing. That error has been fixed, and it now plays perfectly with no modifications.
It runs almost flawlessly with Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF
A few dips when loading stat and score animations for the first time. After the first time playing, those go away. I assume that means they're cached.
Trailing on chracter when motion blur is enabled. Disable it.
Vulkan gets half the performance. DX12 crashes. DX11 works.
If your monitor's refersh rate is higher than 60 but you don't get a steady 144 or whatever you have, enable freesync, cap the framerate using mangohud to something lower. Then, it's smooth.
Doesn't start at all with AMD GPU
Game doesn't start at all. I tried multiple versions of proton with the same result. Pretty strange considering I'm running an AMD CPU and GPU and that this is Steam Deck verified. Valve must have done something special with the Steam Deck to get it to work.
