I used this fork of Proton : https://github.com/redmcg/wine/releases/tag/ED_Proton_3.16-6_Beta
The launcher work fine but the game never start. I solved my issue here : https://github.com/redmcg/wine/issues/5#issuecomment-453885532
Worked out of the box for me. If you have trouble check this : https://github.com/redmcg/wine/wiki
I had to use this command to get the game working: protontricks 359320 -q dotnet40 win7
If it don't work, remove the folder "359320" in the compatdata: rm -rf ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/359320
Now launch Elite Dangerous for Steam to create a clean folder, and wait for it to fail.
Then retry the protontricks command.
The game don't detect correctly the AZERTY layout.

Avec Proton 9.0-4 les textures scintillent. J'ai utilisé Proton 8.0-5 et le problème était résolut.
The game run well. Little performance issue, but perfectly playable. Some time, the game close it self and must be lunch again.
