I noticed I had to run on a lower graphics setting during online play.
Using the War3Zuk mod and the launcher, I would have crashes when textures loaded in during online play with a few friends. Tried the lowest setting possible and windowed mode but still had crashes every time. To remedy this, I added 10 extra gigs of swap space on my SSD to assist with the memory leaks. Now game runs at my normal graphics settings and no crashes.
Running mods with online will cause memory leaks. To stop crashes when textures load in, be sure to add more swap space onto your drive. No issues whatsoever playing vanilla or modded versions.
This game being in alpha for the past few years doesn't help with stability. However, with some patience and tinkering, the game runs very well in both modded and vanilla versions. Using 7D2D mod launcher through Steam helps with the Steam and launcher synchronization, and using Proton allows the game to run at better potential than native.
My Xbox controller would not work even when diabling Steam input. I had to force use of Proton Experimental in the options menu for the game for it to work correctly even though my games are defaulted to run with Proton Experimental. If I did not force it, the controller would be recognized but would not operate in game.
Game works great out of the box. No issues and looks great!
Game has stutters (which it did in WIndows as well)
Game needs to be played at lowest settings, even for my system specs. I make sure to park my character in a less busy part of town to reduce game crashes from graphics loading in.
Make sure to run on Proton 9.0-3. It will ask if you would like to install runtime and UE dependancies. Allow the setup to run and it should launch as intended. I noticed it will crash on Experimental. It will launch with Proton 7.0 but I could not join my friends games and I could not invite my friends into my game via the in game friend invite menu. I created my own control layout using the "Keyboard and mouse WASD" as the template. I turned down graphics to medium/ low settings for the most part. I kept distance rendering on high.
Game is a callback to the MMOs of yesteryear but is a great time and a time vampire
I created my own control scheme and adjusted along the way to make it more efficient.
Adjusted TDP to 10W and frame capped it at 30.
All in all the game plays well on the Steam Deck. Use a mouse and keyboard for the authenitc feel. I was able to get accustomed to a custom control layout. Run the game at lowest settings for the most part. I was using the virtual keyboard for typing. If the graphics were on medium, it made it difficult to type effeciently. I went back to low for the best overall performace. I tried FSR and setting resolution at 640, but it didn't seem to run any better so I went back to native 800. Great to play on the couch when you're solo. I would recommend mouse and keyboard in groups as typing with the virtual keyboard can be slow and cumbersome.
Welcome to the Zone, stalker.
In town will suck down your frames for sure. Seems to be lacking optimization but, overall, not too bad.
I am a Stalker vet so I spam quicksave (F5). I'll get random crashes on occasion. No real rhyme or reason, but I've heard Windows sometimes suffers from it as well.
Overall, this game plays well. Even on my dated system. I have random crashes that are irritating, but I am sure it will be ironed out in future patches. The game works right out of the box. The Stalker jank is to be expected, but considering it's a brand new game on UE 5, it works well.
Vulkan shaders take a bit during new areas
Worked staright out of the box for me. This is a new game that is currently under development and seems to be going places.
No audio control in game as of yet. I cannot turn down audio through pulsewire. Instead I crank my Discord and lower main volume to accomodate.
Make sure to disable all Steam input on controller. I had to learn the hard way of attempting to reinstall controller drivers and such. Go to game settings in controller info and disable all Steam input. Controller is now detected and works as it should.
Works well on Steam Deck!
I changed a few settings on the gamepad layout to make it as I play MX Bikes, MX Sim, etc. Set graphics to the lowest setting (under performance setting) for Deck to give the best performance. Resolution is set to native by default. To utilize gamepad to its full potential, use the touch screen when navigating menus. Use Steam button+X to access keyboard to make further adjustments to names. The game runs well and is stable. There are a few bugs in the game but it is as the same as when I play this on desktop. (Pop OS) The game is constantly getting big updates and seems to be tended to regularly. It works well on desktop and Steam Deck alike!
I notice over time the game will being to slow down considerably. I will try on windowed mode to see if that changes but it will sometime slingshot and then work fine for another 15 minutes before doing it again.
