shadow flickering sometimes

gamemoderun mangohud %command%
works perfect

run just like windows and loads 30 sec faster then windows, with a mooded game, same if not more FPS.
useing GE proton because some mods don't work right on native linux, works good otherwise.

Shadows flickering

I play Metal Gear Solid V. Much more intense graphically and it runs way better on ultra than this game does on Low. That says a lot.
Hi end laptop, I can only get 30 fps at best. I have tried everything from native to proton. Tried Vulkan, GL, tried different versions of proton, GE, tried different version of linux kernel and nvidia drivers. Even tried different OS. popOS (dont recommend), Debian, Ubuntu, and Nobara. Super poor performance. It used to be a lot better during pre V1.
Frozen on starup sometimes.

Works great! Very satisfied!
No tinkering was required of me.

FPS drop after some time
After playing for about 30 minutes, the game suddenly slows down significantly (about 2x slower for me). I'm not sure which of these settings helped, but with the current configuration, the game runs fine:
- Steam overlay: On
- Enable Graphics Jobs: On
- Exclusive Fullscreen Mode: On
- Renderer: DX 11
- Use EAC: Off
- Use Native Input Mode: On

(Updated report) Was able to run fairly smoothly using Proton 8.0-5, DirectX 11 and Easy Anti Cheat enabled
(Updated report) Seems I have stumbled on a solution to the problem where the game slows down significantly after about 45-60 minutes in game. I am using Proton 8.0-5, disabled Steam Overlay, then I start the game with the launcher, Graphics Jobs enabled, DirectX 11, Easy Anti Cheat enabled and Native Input Mode. Not quite sure if all of these are necessary, but it seems that at least Proton 8.0-5, DirectX 11 and Easy Anti Cheat are, despite the anti cheat crashing after a short while in game, so probably can't be played on official servers.
I have for reference installed Steam using Flatpak and am using Garuda Linux

Crashes too often to be viable for native
the native version very frequently causes a kernel panic for whatever reason.
Unless a workaround is found for the crashing or the crashing is fixed, the game is almost unplayable because it also seems to be random when the game would crash as well.

Игра вполне играбельна
После 3 часов игры начинаются задержки ввода
После 3 часов игры падение FPS
Требуется перезапуск раз в 3 часа из-за падения FPS и задержек ввода

Game can be fun but has severe graphics performance issues.
Depending on the graphics settings there can be a lot flickering on the shadows in the day
Disabling "Graphics Jobs" in the launcher seems to cause light to become much brighter
When enabling "Graphics Jobs" (default) in the launcher settings the performance is good in the beginning but over time reduces to a point when it's so bad and stuttery you have to restart again, it seems to just stop fully utilizing your graphics card at some point(gpu utilization goes from 100% to around 20% and never goes back), generally happened with an hour or 2 of playing and if moving around the map a lot.
Disabling Graphics Jobs results in worse fps (about 10-15 fps lower) but it won't degrade and get worse over time
Overall performance is really bad though, significant fps drops: in cities, radiant quests in houses that trigger zombie spawns, driving around, large bases, large buildings.
Reducing the graphics settings even to lowest also doesn't seem alleviate these issues that much for me.
The game just seems to hog all your resources and it feels like there must be some memory leak or something as over time the game will just hog more and more of your RAM /CPU/GPU, causing your desktop to start locking up and freezing if you alt tab out the game, but the game will run fine. If you're on a lower end machine you probably won't be able to have a lot of background tasks for other things running.

Worked out of the Box (I might need to tweak some settings for performance)
Video latency seems to increase dramatically with radiant zombie or heavily populated zombie encounters. I had similar issues when I was running in Windows, but it 'feels' like it might be more prominent while running it in Linux to me.
Logitech G5 Mouse speeds seem to work, but seems to be slower in 7DtD on Linux.
I'm playing on a dedicated server with friends running Windows. Prior to moving to Linux Mint (very recently at the time of this post), I was running Windows 11. I did have performance hits in Windows, especially on Horde Nights, along with some here and there with heavily populated zombie encounters. I 'feel' like that seems to happen a bit more on Linux. I haven't adjusted or tried any Proton clients yet, and left it at what Steam runs. I might try to force Proton Experimental, and attempt some Steam Launch Options if the performance hits continue.
Can not play Native version without game breaking stuttering. Windows version with Proton Experimental runs flawlessly.

Unplayable on Wayland in it's current state.
Performs worse on the Linux native client as opposed to DirectX/Proton
The game starts up fine, both the native version (Vulkan and GL) and through Proton. Within 5 minutes (usually within 5 seconds) of spawning into the world the game hard locks up the computer requiring a manual reboot. Tried on Fedora and CachyOS, Gnome and Plasma. nVidia 555 and 560 drivers. Have not found any solution online, the game is very stable on WIndows so it's not a hardware issue.

I forgot to mention, the game now has significant audio compatibility issues. I use pipewire, and if OBS is running when this game is launched, then the audio for the entire system is messed up. To fix, I have to close OBS, which is a significant problem if I want to switch to this game from another during a livestream. It is also an annoyance as it conflicts with other things on the system, although not as often as with OBS. Running OBS, after launching this game works though. Using qpwgraph to virtually disconnect the game from the speakers doesn't fix the problem.

There is a significant flickering effect on the shadows throughout the day. Night seems mostly unaffected.
The game sometimes locks you into fullscreen, and the only way to escape is through a TTY or force-closing the game.
The game completely interrupts background tasks. Computer grinds to halt, sometimes freezing the entire desktop and requiring a hard reset. This persists even if I force close the game through htop or KSysGuard (System Monitor)
There are significant issues when connecting online. As a host, sometimes the game won't show for some people, but will show for others. We all have to keep restarting until it magically works.
The game is playable, but following the "stable" release, it has suffered from very significant issues. I cannot play this game and run background tasks, which significantly limits my ability to play this game, as I usually have stuff going on in the background for work or other creative purposes.
Playing this game with others is especially a pain, as there is some unknown issue that makes my host session unjoinable for some, and it requires 15-20 minutes of turning it off and on again for it to correct itself. It gets severely worse if anyone is using a VPN.
I genuinely don't recommend this game on Linux in its current shape. It's a damn shame because it used to be "tinkerable", but I have been unable to fix this game with the recent patch. Maybe someone with similar issues will one day figure it out, but it's slowly killing my drive, my friends' drive, and my fiance's drive to play this game. And it looks like the devs have "Welp, it's stable now" and dumped it for their new project.
Finally, the "1.0 update" changed nothing aside from making it prettier... again. So, you know where the dev's priorities lie. The game has never been amazing on Linux. So sadly, I won't hold my breath.

Flickering shadows, turn shadow quality to "low" to fix!
The game runs excellent, if not better than windows. Minor graphical artifacts depending on version.

Game is unoptimized and runs poorly on linux
Game starts off fine, but after playing for a bit the FPS drops significantly and starts stuttering. It's especially bad in combat instances where there's numerous zombies.
Took a screen shot with Spectacle to share on Discord and it crashed when trying to switch to Discord.
The game requires a lot of tweaking to have a stable FPS. For me, it wants to default to using Ultra/Max settings, but that results in only 40 FPS at best. On Fedora, compared to Ubuntu, the system is a bit less stable and I encountered more issues with the game crashing. In one case, I ended up crashing the desktop environment but the game could still be played albeit at a lower, stuttering FPS.

Native both runs terribly, and has graphical artifacts in addition to having very different looking graphics on the Linux native version. Native uses OpenGL with no option for Vulkan unfortunately, native shadows and global illumination are also VERY different than Window's.
Game's also VERY single threaded, switching from my 3800X to my 5700X3D resulted in about a 50-100% performance increase. Apparently some people have disabled multi-threading and E-cores (on applicable intel chips) for another nice bump in performance

Starts off fine, but performance degrades a lot to the point it because difficult to play.
Starts off getting 70 FPS at near max settings. After a few hours in game, it struggles to get above 40 FPS and drops a lot in instances of high movement (i.e., combat).
I don't recommend this on Linux.

Native version messed up play with proton
Game is stable in Proton but the native version has frequent crashes and graphical artifacts.

Remember that the release of 1.0 is a cash grab, don't buy this game off steam, it's overpriced

Vulkan worked much better in my case. Was giving more fps and was more stable. This probably depends on a GPU model though.

After 9 month the game still doesnt work on wayland, wont start cause EPIC ONLINE SERVICES

Major stuttering and freezing when using vulkan, glcore seems to run fine though
use glcore instead of vulkan

Crahs using Vulkan but gl core makes light glitches
Don't use Vulkan or crash
gamemoderun mangohud %command%

The game is more enjoyable when playing with Vulkan as the Renderer. GLCore's issues can be overlooked, but I personally hated it.
To avoid visual glitches and poor performance, I had to hit PLAY on steam, choose to show the launcher and select Vulkan as the Renderer. Default was GLCore & it says Vulkan is not fully supported yet, but I didn't experience any problems with that yet over GLCore. Finally I clicked the "Run & Save as default" button.
ONLY ON GLCORE: Extreme brightness effect that doesn't change no matter how I set my brightness in the settings.
Might be related to the game being still in development. Significantly stronger performance impact on GLCore.
Playing with Proton only worked for Singleplayer. The game gives me a glitched message saying that Easy Anti Cheat doesn't trust Protons compatibility files and that I won't be able to play on official servers. As soon as a friend joins my server, my game freezes and they get a connection timeout. This happens even with EAC disabled through launch options interestingly. Also when switching between native and proton, I had to manually move the save & world files around. I tried playing with steams experimental proton version & GE-Proton 9.9.

The Windows version with Proton performs better than the Native Linux version. Performance is very similar to Windows, any stuttering or performance issues are generally due to the game bad optimization and happen on Windows as well. Was able to play with Mods by simply copying them to the Mods folder in the root game's folder.

No problems
No problems in multiplayer either

v1.0 Experimental
The game runs better on proton GE than native with vulkan. Especially it will be better for mod support, which loads .dll's that break on the native client.
vulkan linux native: 60-80fps
vulkan proton ge9-7: 70-110fps

plays great
set render to vulkan in the game launcher
