Ended up refunding. Good reason I guess native Linux games (with wheels) are still the better option over proton games.
G29 wheel + shifter, even after binding keys myself the handling was just awful.
Experimental works well with Franchise mode
Tried Proton 6.3-6 and 5.13-6 and neither would allow me to adopt animals. Screen for adoption wouldn't load, after clicking that option ESC wouldn't work either. Also had to "stop" the game through Steam as quitting did nothing.
So far Experimental seems to be working as it should. Can adopt animals (at least with cash thus far) and game closes when quitting.
Have Deluxe edition with Arctic and Aquatic DLC's (if this makes a difference).
Add the following to the launch options as others have mentioned: PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command% . Been a couple of years since I last played ESO (my old gaming rig with Win10), and I'm surprised at how well it runs on my new pc with Linux. Solid 60fps
Lack of NPC audio takes you out of the game. Maybe the launch fixes will work for you, but didn't for me.
NPC audio is missing, launch options below didn't work.

Other than a small fix you might havefor NPC audio, game runs and looks well. Haven't modded the game yet but unmodded game is fine on Linux
Tried multiple fixes others mentioned for the missing NPC audio, a day later found a yt video which fixed my issue. Add the following to the launch options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
I did a nearly 14 hour non-stop play through without a single issue.
Some issues I've had; 1. Alt-tab give a black screen. 2. I have to alt-f4 the game when I want to close it. You could also just alt-tab to Steam and hit "Stop". Other than that, actually playing the game it's been flawless.
Options screen shows, but crashes.

Well, maybe. Unlike FIFA this game is more mod friendly, but.......
Windowed mode cannot be resized it seems, still was fine to play.
Most mods are all .exe's. And playing the game without mods is kinda meh. Fake leagues/clubs etc and missing Bundesliga. It does seem to otherwise run fine, but mods are a big thing IMO with the game.
