Game run well out of the box. Played thru the whole game with controller, cloud saves work as well
Works now on bleeding-edge Proton Experimental
The game now works if you enable the bleeding-edge beta of Proton Experimental. I was able to run the launcher and play the game without any issues. You may need to uninstall and reinstall the game once you switch to the beta however. See here for more info: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5751#
Unable to start game due to popup menus
Upon launch, I ran into two alternating popup menus with an error message. If you hit accept, the other one shows up instead. After quitting and re-starting, I was able to view the main menu, however trying to select a game led to the same infinite popup loop.
Game files do not download
Steam reports game as successfully installed, yet no files are actually downloaded. Upon attempting to run, Steam gives error due to missing executable.
Game crashed at start up the vast majority of the time

Not quite sure what changed, but this game has become incredibly unstable. The vast majority of the time, the game crashes upon reaching the "Teleporting" loading screen. I've tried different launch params, and sometimes it'll start playing, only to not work the next time. Typically, the game plays fine once launched, although it also can crash during gameplay. Very unstable.
As others have stated, game runs with no audio without launch flags - WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b” %command%
Completed the entire game with a controller. Encountered no issues, even backing up saves with their built-in tool worked flawlessly.
Played through all of FFX without any issues, other than occasional no audio at start
FFX would often begin without any audio playing. The only fix is to close the game back to the launcher and try reopening, sometimes took several tries.
In order to get this game running, you need to run the game once on Windows (at least in a VM) to connect your account to your Steam account. Then to play, I installed the unofficial launcher via Lutris, installed the Windows version of Steam in the same wine prefix (which must always be running whenever this is played), and then finally I was able to play. It's doable, and not terribly hard if you know what you're doing, but it's a huge pain over the previous launcher.
GloriousEggroll
This is the free trial version of FFXIV, which is exactly the same as the paid version, but I thought I'd leave a review for anyone who comes here. Game run excellently under GloriousEggroll, native Proton still currently has issues with the launcher, but runs once in game. No issues seen at all
I had no issues playing through the game on the latest version of Proton. I did not encounter any audio issues like some other people are reporting.
Played game with both mouse and keyboard and PS4 controller. I have experienced no issues at all out of the box, game runs very well.
No issues seen
I finished the whole game using a Bluetooth controller. I experienced no issues at all playing through this.
Launcher and game runs with Proton-6.12-GE-1, and I ran into no issues at all. My PS4 controller was detected by the launcher immediately.
Proton-6.12-GE-1
Game seems to be poorly optimized, but I didn't encounter any issues outside of low FPS and crackly audio
Very laggy given how simple of a game it is. Had to run the game on much smaller resolution before it would run at full speed.
