Just watch the anime
xboxdrv did not work. Enabling/disabling Steam Input did not work. Changing Proton versions (GE, TKG) did not work.
Game doesn't use Steam Cloud, so changing Proton versions wipes out local saves and data.
Playing at Lv3, Lv30 characters kept appearing and defeating the boss before I could even move a few steps toward the boss.
This is a gacha game with excessive daily tasks and simple game mechanics.
Single player or local multiplayer only
Controllers don't seem to be supported at all.
The servers are no longer online.
The settings menu displays fine, but the game itself displays an error. Once some dlls are installed, the game runs fine. I used winetricks to install the missing files: WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/35140/pfx/" WINE="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/files/bin/wine" winetricks d3dx9 d3dcompiler_43
Occasional slowdowns because running on an underpowered GPU.

Capes and characters have many corrupt textures. Using mesa 22.1.6 Upgrading to mesa-tkg-git 22.3.0 from AUR fixes the problem.
Too many superfluous particle effects render slowly. Barely playable at 1280x720. Much better at 1024x576, but all the previous Arkham games run better at higher resolutions.
In cut scenes, speech audio finishes long before the animation does. This causes long pauses between phrases. Seems like the video is running at half speed.
Cannot progress past downloading 14GB of additional data
Downloads 14GB of additional data, while silently failing to install. In terminal, displays numerous errors:
Error while downloading Asset Bundle: Couldn't move cache data
Unplayable because there are no active servers
Game is unplayable because there are no active servers and there is no single-player mode.
Tutorial is broken
Graphics not restored upon return from Alt-Tab.
Character location jumps.
Cannot play through the tutorial because tutorial events aren't triggered, and game won't respond to commands that the tutorial has blocked.
Save game wasn't retained after updating Proton.
Still slow with reduced video settings. My computer isn't powerful enough for new games.
After updating Proton, 3GB of assets had to be redownloaded.
With Proton 7.0-4, clicks don't register on the "tap anywhere to continue" screen.
As others have noted, the Games for Windows Live installation fails or freezes, leaving behind an unusable proton profile. To fix:
- Force close all steam and proton processes.
- Delete the proton profile
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/205350
- Delete
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection/support/Gfwlivesetup.exe
- Put an alternate
xlive.dll
(xliveless) in~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection/BINARIES/WIN32
Online multiplayer will not work because the GFWL service is no longer active.
Some slowdowns because my GPU is underpowered.
On my computer, the native Linux version would not run, but the Windows version works okay with Proton.
Linux version has no audio. Windows version running with Proton does.
Health meter is missing/invisible in Windows version running on Proton.
Loading takes a very long time. I switch to windowed mode and browse the web while waiting.
PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Installed widescreen fix. Launch options are needed to enable it.
Native: Mouse clicks didn't register or were inaccurate. Controller wasn't recognized.
Proton: Controller analog sticks work, but buttons not mapped. Changing bindings in game is glitchy.
This game requires Proton 5.x. With Proton 6.3 and 7.0, widescreen fix doesn't work and prominent warning is displayed.
This game does not support controllers. A gamepad to keyboard remapping program is needed (AntiMicroX, QJoyPad, joy2key, etc).
This game runs well with Proton 7.0 and Experimental. The "native" Linux version uses an old version of wine that doesn't work on my computer. It leaves behind the folder ~/.systemshock2
, which can be deleted.
Slow loading times and poor video performance, but playable.
With default video settings, there are many rendering artifacts, like objects flickering in and out of appearance. Ambient occlusion may be the main culprit.
When the game starts, a black screen is shown for a few minutes while it is loading. Just wait, and it will eventually continue. Using Alt-Tab will disrupt the process, and the game will never load.
Loading between scenes is also be slow. They do eventually finish though.
Video settings can be changed to window mode so the computer can be used for other tasks during loading. Then Alt+Enter can be used to enter fullscreen.
My GPU is underpowered, so I needed to reduce video settings to get playable frame rates. I reduced the resolution, set texture quality to high, antialiasing to FXAA, and everything else to low or disabled.
Playable, but need patience during slow load times.
When the game starts, a black screen is shown for about a minute while it is loading. Loading between scenes can also be slow. Just wait, and it will eventually finish. Unfortunately, Alt-Tab disrupts the game and requires it to be force closed and restarted. Alt+Enter does not switch between window and fullscreen modes.
My GPU is underpowered. Resolution and most video settings had to be decreased or turned off to obtain playable frame rates.
Game briefly flashes a black screen before crashing.
I also tried Proton Expermental with the same result. However, the game seems to run fine with Proton-tkg 7.6.r12, installed with ProtonUp-Qt.
Native Linux version has no sound, doesn't recognize the controller, and crashes at the first cut scene or start of dungeon. Windows version works fine with Proton – sound works, controller works, played through several dungeons without crashing.
The demo initially crashed before starting. None of the tweaks I tried worked. Eventually, I deleted the Proton prefix and shutdown my computer. When I tried again later, the game seem to run fine.
This has happened with some other games. Proton seems to become unstable as it is used, requiring a system reboot. Just like Windows.
Minor texture weirdness that doesn't affect gameplay.
Game occasionally doesn't load, but does work after force closing and restarting it.
Game will not progress past initial setup screen with Proton 7.0-5. Works after switching to GE-Proton.
