Works if you set '-NoLauncher' in Steam launch options; I tested it through Proton, because with the native version I had problems playing with someone who uses Windows. It works mostly fine with the launcher disabled, but alt-tabbing can cause the mouse to break.
Runs perfectly fine with no tweaks required. However, after playing for several hours, the game occasionally freezes during loading screens, requiring a restart.
The tweaks mentioned are fairly simple to do; once done, the game is 100% playable through Linux via Proton.
Tweaking FFXIV_BOOT.cfg
by changing the Browser
entry from 0
to 1
Then, after attempting the first launch, tweaking FFXIV.cfg
by changing the CutsceneMovieOpening
entry from 0
to 1
.

Using "WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d %command%", both singleplayer and multiplayer worked almost perfectly. I had only a single crash in well over 10 hours of play, and performance feels at least identical to Windows, if not a bit smoother.
One issue I do have: after several hours, moving my mouse causes the framerate to tank. Using a controller works around this.
Proton 4.2-4 seems to have issues with GTA Online that were not present in 4.2-3, nor in 3.16-9 Beta. Very frequently, the game is unable to connect to Rockstar Game Services, which prevents saving.
3.16-9 does not have this issue, and works flawlessly so far.
Launches just fine, but for GTA Online, setting WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d %command%
as a launch option is required. Afterwards, the game generally runs fine, however Social Club tends to break after several hours of play, which can causes problems in GTAO, and even in singleplayer.
After copying all .dll files from Win64Shared to Win64, the game runs perfectly fine.
The game launches, but after several minutes in-game, I was disconnected due to a "security threat" being detected.
Use Proton instead of Native
The native client fails to launch in my case, but everything works perfectly so far with Proton 8.0-2
Despite the issue with voice recognition, the game is still 100% playable on Linux through Proton in my experience with it.
The only "bug" I'm aware of that occurs due to running through Proton is the lack of voice recognition. In-game voice chat works fine, but ghosts are unable to recognize what Linux players say due to the voice recognition requiring the Cortana API.
Updating my previous report now that I've played it for over 10 hours.
I can't say how performance compares to running it on Windows, as I haven't tried. However, I can say that I've run into no noteable issues that aren't also present in other versions of the game; i.e. issues that I have had aren't related to running it via Proton.
I also haven't tried multiplayer, but since the game has EAC, I suspect there would be issues in trying to do so.
Runs fine with no tweaks necessary, but online play seems to be inaccessible.
Game works perfectly fine on 3.16-4, however with 3.16-8, as with -6 and -7, the game gets stuck on a black screen when launched, making it unplayable.
With Proton 4.2-1, the game launches perfectly fine once again, as it did on 3.16-4. All singleplayer content works well and runs fine, but I have to rating it at Silver due to EAC preventing online play.
Game launches and is completely playable, but manual saving does not seem to work correctly, i.e. entries for save games stay blank, but the game does in fact seem to save.
Launches fine with no tweaks needed, however, while playing, the framerate gradually drops over time. The only way to correct that is either to relaunch the game, or it sometimes fixes itself when entering a different major area.
