The game is good but the constant slowdowns and performance issues makes anyone not amazingly patient rip their hair out in frustration.
Every time I select fullscreen the game shuts down and unticked is when starting again, rinse and repeat.
The games framerate is all over the place between 15- 50 fps, however after playing for a certain amount of times and swapping zone will it suddenly run even worse with massive input Lagg and everything running in slowmotion, saving and rebooting the game makes it run playable again.
Massive slowdowns in performance.
The game is steamdeck verified. It boots with zero configuration. It got smooth controls and works out of the box, but the game in my opinion isn't considered playable as you need to constantly reboot to have a somewhat decent performance in the game.
Make sure to use The ATELIERSYNC fix Using the new proton 8.1 fixes all video file playback, and atelier sync helps framerate
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d11=n,b" %command%
Full screen results in the game unable to detect your controller.
If the game was full screen it would refuse gamepad input

you can find the sync fix at this location, it helped me finally have the game run at a stable 60fps.
Prior to that have I tried most of everything to get it even stable at 40fps locked but without any luck, but it turns out the Sync fix ( works on most DX11 Koe Tecmo games ) finally took the game from barely running to running almost perfectly on the steamdeck which I'm very happy about.
The pairing with Proton 8, also seems to fix any video issues the game had in the past. hope this helps anyone who want a clean 60fps experience on the deck <3 ( also make sure to run the game in windowed mode or controller input won't work )
Doesn't save and the fewest people would be willing to beat the entire game in one sitting.
The movie scenes was scuffed with weird coloration artifacting and impossible to make out
The game would say "Failed" every time it tried to save. And didn't notice any way to save manually.
The initial control setup works perfectly for the game with the steamdeck.
You won't initially notice anything is off before it plays the cutscene which is completely intelligible, however the big problem comes immediately after when it tries to save .... it can't Meaning you will be playing the entire game without being able to save.
So unless you're a power gamer who can beat this in one sitting, the game is not "playable" in its current state.
The game can be played without the specific Proton-7.1-GE-2, but it would result in all cutscenes being non functional, and there is a lot of those
I initially tested the DEMO which had performance problems on my steamdeck and would have big frame fluctuation in town after unlocking the ability to communicate with NPC's.
This is Not reflective of the "Retail/paid version of the game" it have been running flawlessly since purchasing, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Using proton tricks wasn't that difficult and once the dependencies are added it runs flawlessly
I basically
Added all d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 etcetc And then all vcrun from 2007 -> 2019 I do believe anything beyond 2015 failed but I just yeeted the stuff at it like an idiot and it kind of worked (Won't pretend to know what I'm doing) but hey it works now. Using proton tricks.
It kept warning about 64 bit but that can safely just be ignored.
I've been playing the game for a few hours and it runs flawlessly.
Without adding the dependencies the game crashes on launch, after adding them the game runs flawlessly with 0 issues.
No native Gamepad support YET, so probably better on PC. Remember to use Desktop mode for first startup, for Google Verification
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
I seem to have a few hiccups with the game crashing if it doesn't connect properly to the servers upon launching the game, but once you're in you're fine.
For the Steamdeck, you need to boot the game up in "OS_MODE" first and run it through steam so you can sign in through firefox / etc, as the CEF browser used in Gamescope mode is rejected by google for signin.
once you've done that one time, will the game run flawlessly afterward beside occasional hiccups on initial boot.
