Not using GE-Proton8-25 will lead to pre-rendered cutscenes having showstopper issues (e.g. non-progressable black screens, "TV color test" screens, etc). This is the most up-to-date Proton/GE that fully works in my tests.
- By default the game uses LT/RT for camera controls. It's recommended to use Steam Input's controller rebinding feature to set the right thumbstick to the keyboard's bindings (T/H/G/F for Up/Right/Down/Left, respectively)
- Game doesn't support gamepad prompts, so a mod ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=676138718 ) is needed. After extraction it can be applied with:
protontricks --no-bwrap --cwd-app -c "wine cmd /c LINKDATA_DX9/Patch.bat" 331600

In the most recent version at the time of this review (Proton 9.0-4, the game is not able to run some cutscenes, which can negatively affect the experience, but nothing too serious)
However, when using Proton GE 9-23, this problem is fixed and the game works PERFECTLY without any errors.
split screen
As mentioned, it is not ''necessary'' to use the proton ge to play, but the GE fixes this custscene bug that has not yet been fixed by valve.

Works just as well as I remember it working on Windows. No major issues besides using a specific older version of proton.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
The game did open without tinkering, but it only ever showed a black screen, then crashed right after.

Given that the game no longer has any sound or visual issues with Proton, it should be safe to play on Linux.
Natively, the game does not support controller button prompts. To fix this, there are community mods for Xbox 360 controller and DualShock 3 button prompts. This patch must be performed on Windows, and the modified file can be copied over to a Steam Deck/Linux installation.
Set TDP Limit to 8 watts.
If you are using a controller, the Button Prompts mods are a must. Beyond that, the game performs well and has no other issues that would require tinkering.

Not having cutscenes takes away from the story experience.
Steam Controller needs to be activated for full mapping
Video Cutscenes are not played

After hours of tinkering, I found the above launch options from OPPW4, and it happens to work with OPPW3 as well. The audio fix combined with GE-Proton results in the best experience for OPPW3 on SteamDeck, solid 60 FPS (although reported as 58 FPS) with maxed out settings.
- Stable performance even with large groups on the screen
- Fully working cutscenes (in-game/animated) with audio
- No graphical artifacts (shadow bugs)

Game doesn't work that well without Proton 7.1 GE 2. It only supports keyboard button prompts so installing a community layout is a must.
After some tinkering works well in both 40 and 60 fps.
Audio will not work on cutscenes unless using Proton7-.1-GE-2 and if controller doesn't work, disabling steam input should fix this issue.
The game can be played without the specific Proton-7.1-GE-2, but it would result in all cutscenes being non functional, and there is a lot of those
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% on launch options

This game used to have issues with broken videos. This is fixed with Proton 7-5. Also my Playstation 5 controller is working.

shadows don't work well
Getting my controller to work took a couple of tries. Wanted to give my initial report. Will probably re-rate once I play the game complete
Cinematic cutscenes (e.g. Opening movie, and cinematics that did not play out via manga/comic panels) had missing audio
Make sure to enable steam input and choose the Gamepad layout that's appropriate for your device (i.e. PS4, PS5, Switch Pro, etc.) Game seems to work fine with a PS5 controller
Game would stutter every so often
It took a few tries to get my controller to work similar to elden ring. I had to run the controller configuration via the "Controller Settings" link in the overlay, rather than Steam > Controller > Desktop settings. It took a few tries to set my controller's configuration then restarting to get my controller to work correctly.
There was a shadow of sorts off in the distance that didn't make any sense, but it wasn't always noticable so I don't mind it.
Does not have Steam cloud support for save games
Only thing I can say here is that the button prompts in-game are for keyboard and mouse and doesn't display controller icons of any kind, but the controls work just fine.
Finished story with missing cutscenes
Many missing cutscenes
Works fine out of the box. Some cutscenes don't play, but that also occurs on regular Windows PC's
When many enemies on screen the game slow downs a bit
I recommend to use Proton-GE version *6.20-GE1* => both controller and performance are perfect
Proton-GE working 100% perfectly
6.20-GE1 => both controller and performance are perfect
Issues with some Proton-GE versions
6.18-GE2 and 6.19-GE2: performance OK, but controller issue (like if the pad direction was always activated by human, so unable to select anything in some menus (mainly in Extra)).
6.21-GE2: controller is fixed (like in 6.20-GE1), but there is huge performance degradation
Very rarely the game can be slow during few minutes. May be dependent on Stage (was the case at Alabasta).
Fora isso rodou de boa aqui com o proton 6.3.7

Game works out of the box except for the videos not playing.
Videos did not work even with proton experimental. Proton GE did not start.

Works perfect out of the box.
The Co-op is great (i'm using 2 ps3 controllers wirelessly connected). In comparison to my Windows experience on this game I have to say it works better on Linux. 1080p 60fps no problems.

The only "problem" I encountered was that the opening video (before entering the main menu) wasn't playing. It din't bother me at all. Besides that the game was fully playable (single player) with all the cutscenes playing flawlessly. I'll update after playing co-op.

Proton-6.13-GE-1
you need to choose "enable steam input" in order to play
cutscene won't work if you use default proton use GE instead and set "enable steam input" on controller option
Fully playable despite the problems listed below.
Steam Input is required to gamepad work properly (using the default Gamepad preset).
Without Steam Input, the mapping is wrong and the camera drifts forever.
Note: The PC port of this game only shows keyboard sprites, even when using a controller.
Video cutscenes are not working. The game does not crash because of it, but this can be disabled in the game settings.
Note: Video cutscenes are working fine in Proton-GE, but Steam Input is not working properly with Proton-GE.
Petardea un poco en ciertos momentos.
Crashed when I changed the game's resolution (it retained the change I made after the crash though so it was fine).
Some of the cut scenes didnt play and were just skipped
Had to add a launch option: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Working perfectly, no problem.
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% on launch options

Does not start when using proton 4.11

The game runs very well for the most part. The cursor keeps scrolling in some menus, including the menu where you can select skills (making it impossible).

Video file - Cutscenes doesn't play. Otherwise the games feels the same as Windows (including the no button layout when using controller and the controller not responding once disconnected once) 8/10

Game quality is great playing with 3.16 so far, at least when doing so with a keyboard. Attempting to use a Logitech game pad, a F310, I'd get a constant spin to the right of the character in game play, that cannot be fixed or even disabled. This seems to be a bug in the game however, as others have reported this for using game pads other than very specific ones (xbox360 apparently works).

This worked from the onset of Proton, but very buggy and slow, but trying again with 3.16-6, it is very smooth in play, though appears very low res for playing on my 4k screen. My only qualm is I can't seem to get my steam controller to work with it so far. Going to try other controllers soon.

Played with Xbox 360 wired controller; in galleries, control scrolls automatically to the last item, videos don't play, otherwise game is completely playable.

Seems to work perfectly fine. Only minor issue is game shows keyboard input prompts rather than controller .

Videos are missing, winetricks can't install wmp10 on 64bit; unplayable with xbox 360 controller, camera is bound to triggers and constantly spinning; xboxdrv can fix the controller, but found no way with steam controller configurator

First start up was good, game was working fine, but subsequent attempts led to a black screen.

Fails to boot

(very minor) Xbox One Controller works, but the screen show keyboard keys
